Crackdown 1 vs. Crackdown 3 on Xbox One X, lol:

I can't believe that I thought CD1 looked good back then.

This is why I can’t wait to see the new SP stuff. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised since we haven’t seen anything in over a year.

It doesn't have to be realistic, but it should push the rendering in that stlye forward. I haven't seen anything yet that suggests this is true. The destruction tech is more innovative, but it's not in the main game.

Yeah it just looks fine, nothing groundbreaking but also doesn't look like garbage the way the initial reveal did either, it has improved but it doesn't really look like a game that's pushing the hardware when it comes to visuals. I still don't think the destruction is going to seem all that new because we've had plenty of games with destruction before, if you are in an MP game you aren't going to have time to notice if things fall in a scripted way or if they are calculated on a server and sent to your console. I also don't get how agents who are supposed to be saving a city in the single player portion are tearing it down in MP, doesn't make much sense but it doesn't really have to I guess lol. I'm not sure about the lock on in MP either, I really think they should have just focused on adding co-op and called it a day, if they needed destruction maybe they could have just had the glass shatter on buildings or something and not worried about making small sections of the city that can fall apart completely. It could be a lot of fun, hopefully there is a ton of single player content and the game is fun, if there is that'll make it worth the purchase on it's own regardless of how the MP turns out.

Lol. Got damn, Jinca. I gotta hand it to you. You are persistent.

How the hell you compare this destruction to any game before it? If they simply wanted the same kind of destruction (that no one's really going to notice, as you say) why go through the trouble of developing this technology in the first place? How many years did they work on getting Cloud destruction to work properly - only to have it be nothing more than what everyone else has done? C'mon bruh...

Things gamers notice in MP games:

  • Missing pixels
  • Missing fps
  • Kill count on their weapon
  • Clan tag on their weapon
  • When an advertisement on a billboard or vehicle differs due to online ad rotation
  • Realistic blood vs. fake blood
  • Color of socks, shoes, weapon, pants, hat, glasses
  • Feel free to add ever little thing gamers notice here...
You can be damn sure a gamer is going to notice real time destruction in a MP vs. scripted destruction. Cue the Youtube videos next month of Crackdown 3 destruction accuracy. Every Tom, Dick and Harry is going to try and reproduce this:

Hopefully they didn't dumb it down from this level though. It's very possible they simplified it. We will have to see. It's one of the problems with having no footage. In fact, If it were THIS high fidelity, I wouldn't mind a less than stellar looking game. Of course SP has nothing to do with this.

I am guessing it is dumbed down from that demo. It really was just a demo of the cloud and what it can do. I highly doubt we will get this reproduced in CD3.

Lol
I'm joking, game looks great and the destruction definitely is a gen apart from anything I've seen.
If anything, the character animations looks kind of bad, but otherwise it's a looker no doubt.
Fuker! Lol. I thought you was high as hell! I was going to PM you after lunch to see if I could get a hook up.

One of the major differences with cloud destruction is that the debris and state of the environment is the same for everyone.

At this point, I’m not expecting nor do I need Crackdown to perform any miracles. The single player was built by one of Sumo’s 5 studios. It’s a AA campaign with Microsoft’s tech demo for cloud compute attached.

When Microsoft had next to nothing in their pipeline as a publisher, there was a lot of pressure on Crackdown to be something extroadinary. Now that it’s on Game Pass and there’s plenty of other distractions, I’m just hoping for a fun 10-15 hour campaign chasing orbs and will admire the cloud destruction demo as a showpiece for what could be implemented in future Xbox games.

With expectations now in check, really looking forward to what will be a mediocre yet fun game. Predict a solid 7.0 on Metacritic.

Nah. I'm sticking with my original prediction of the game being in the low to mid 80's. I think the game looks like a great time and the MP may surprise a few people - moreso than just with destruction. If you loved the original CD, this looks to top that in every possible way.

LOL Seriously? Why was this kind of destruction ever needed in a MP game like this? In Battlefield it makes sense but CD3? This was clearly never meant to be a AAA game, it was likely a AA title where they wanted to try to work in the cloud stuff they bragged about in 2013 that still hasn't really materialized over 5 years later. I don't want anyone to be confused either I'm not saying they announced this game 5 years ago (damn near it though lol) but they were hyping up cloud like quite a bit when the X1 was announced and since then it's basically just done things we already had going in some racing games and fighting games last gen it just did them in a different way.

If this destruction is something awesome that's fine but it still doesn't really fit with Crackdown, they should have done a new Mech Assault game or something like it and it would have fit perfectly there. We have had a ton of games with destruction before going back to the original Xbox so it's not going to be all that amazing IMO. Yes it'll be done in a different way and on paper it'll be more impressive but is the player really going to notice the difference? We'll see.

Agree that a Mech Warrior/Mech Assault Game with total destruction would be pretty damned awesome.

Crackdown is just the start of the cloud stuff. It may be Microsoft didn’t want to risk damaging other franchises with this project. They’ve admitted it was cloud destruction first, gameplay next. This is truly pilot, a tech demo and an experiment. If the actual multiplayer isn’t fun, they’ve not damaged a major franchise. Nobody has expectations of what a Crackdown multiplayer game was supposed to be.

They will be working out the bugs on a franchise they aren’t hyping, that people can try cheap on Game Pass that doesn’t have any beloved multiplayer that they could piss people off by ruining. If they work out the bugs by next gen, who knows...it could be in a lot of games.

💯 agreed. I mean the 2 parts to the game were done by entirely different studios, and it’a already been said the campaign has been done for over a year.

All the delays were just to get this tech running. I expect it to get old fast because it sounds very limited in the MP, and I’m sure it will get boring fast. The MP impressions have basically said exactly that already.

But it should give us a glimpse of what’s coming, and that’s not very far away. I think we’ll see it on a grandiose scale in Halo Infinite, and maybe even something with GOW.

And it’s destruction in CD, but expanding that out to other game aspects will allow for experiences just not possible right now. Potentially really, really exciting stuff!
