The game is not really scary, has generous save points & well equipped (so far).

What level you playing and are you wearing a headset?
Chapter 2, medium difficulties & no headset. Regular PC speakers.
There is still some fear factors, but certainly not as bad as other games like decent where I gave up after 10 mins.
Speakers huh. You are missing out. A good headset with 3D audio is the bizness.

This game is awesome, at chapter 7 now. It looks great but the sound engineers really shine for this title. I'm playing using the Sony Pulse headset and the 3D audio makes this game spooky as heck. And comes with the added bonus of enemies not being able to sneak up on me even in the dark since I can hear their lumbering footsteps and the direction they are coming from.
Haptics don't add much to this game beyond traditional rumble but that's fine. I haven't run into any bugs which is amazing in today's gaming. I hope this sells a lot of units and the devs make a Remake of DS2. And if all goes well they can try their hand at completing the trilogy since we all know DS3 doesn't exist. I repeat........DEAD SPACE 3 DOES NOT EXIST!!!

I should have turned the film grain and motion blur off earlier, have been playing on the 30 fps ray traced mode lately. I didn't realize how pervasive their motion blur and film grain were, vastly preferring the image quality without both.

Patch pushed to Steam and PS5, I'm assuming to fix the awful VRS / DRS ?
Nice! I thought I was going to have to wait for a week at the most for a patch.
Probably going to wait on this again. VRS option doesn't seem to work. It doesn't make a difference in image quality when VRS is disabled.
First things I do in any video game is check the audio options, change to headphones or 3D audio. Go to graphics options and turn of motion blur, film grain, chromatic abrasion, etc.
I am not even sure what you are talking about. But whatever.
I have enough problem to deal of my own than worry about grandeurs of world events. Maybe when I won Lottery & have 100 millions in my bank account, I have to luxury to poke into outside my immediate needs.
Anyway, on topic, turning off film grain was one of the first things I did.
Game can be pretty cheap, often putting enemies behind you that you cannot see. managed to get 2 hours run last night & reaching chapter 3. I am slow. I ran back to save after every mob packs kill, & reload if I did badly (used too much ammo, or took too much damage). But I am making my money worth by extend the gametime.
I can see why this game (Deadspace OG) was so loved & highly acclaimed. It did not did anything mindblowing, but focus on doing the core gameplay like the upgrades, level design,combat, outerspace feel well.
If you guys like Deadspace, I recommend Prey 2017.
