Destiny Alpha gameplay leak

Call me hasty, but I'm sure this is APB all over again. If Bungie and Activision don't turn things around completely during the next few months, Destiny might well be the first flop of this generation.

I guess this is what is going on @ e3. Destiny Alpha @ Sony's booth. A nice touch would be to allow early beta access to preorder customers during e3.

The Borderlands comparison is hilarious, especially with the enemies that charge directly at the player, it kind of reminded me of the midgets for some reason.

Edit. Damn, that didn't last long. I noticed Ketto posted some actual download links in that gaf thread if anyone has missed the youtube links.

Doesn't seem to be making much of splash, save on the b.net. It's petty but they sure aren't winning many hearts and minds with the blatant sony focus in other corners of the internet.

Seems to me that after they left microsoft, ironically they went corporate. Between activisions heavy hand and their ignoring of the xbox, it's a tough sell.
As in, without the Halo branding, they can't just say "We made thing" and have that many people jump anymore. Idiots only carried them so far, they need quality to appeal to the rest.

Plus the firing of Marty is unforgivable. I was on the fence before due to activision but now I refuse to buy it new out of principle.
Only people gettin my money are the scalpers at gamestop, if I even decide to get it anyway.

Companies don't immediately go corporate and go evil at once that easily. Usually what happens with a new, overbudget project is this: There are a lot of things at stake, so the pressure is enormous, every decision needs to be extremely careful and publisher's perspective is regarded importantly even among developers. Therefore the original vision gets watered down, especially if it's ambitious like Destiny's. Seamless world, in-and-out co-op in open world, massive customization and various way of communication, etc. ... But since the tech is not there yet and they can't afford delays and technical issues, the world gets divided into areas, character interaction gets limited, and the remainings are RPG elements and bigger maps, which results in a comparsion to Borderlands, a much cheaper but effective game. I am guessing that there must be quite a few at Bungie that just wants to jump ships, like right now. Joseph Staten's return to Microsoft Studios might say something...

Destiny has a lot of pre-orders on PS4 and even Xbox One. Look past the marketing deals, it's probably going to be a good game if not "megahype" worthy.

Im gonna get the game no matter what, because lets face it, there's not a whole lot coming out this year that looks much better. I love Borderlands, and even if this is just a rip off of that formula, it'll still no doubt give me enough entertainment to justify its price tag. This game, Dragon Age, and Sunset Overdrive are all I really have to look forward to now. All the games I really wanted to play aren't coming until next year, and at least it'll give me something to play for my PS4, if only because right now its just a dust magnet.

Well there have been a number of the "core" Bungie team that have left the company fairly recently, Griesemer, Staten, and most recently O'Donnell (though not of his own accord).
Hopefully with the departures of Staten and O'Donnell haven't negatively impacted Destiny.

LOL what....the game has been getting much attention.

It was getting major hype, but since that last video the hype seems to have died down. The talk around the game seems to be getting more and more negative. It just seems to have evened out to normal proportions. They really do need to show something exciting though, cause thus far, it looks pretty mediocre.

Bungie wanted away from MS because they wanted out from under Halo and more creative freedom. I guess they should have chatted with IW brass before buying into Activisions courtship and singing their new studio away for a decade. Seems they probably could have just asked MS to give Halo to another dev and stayed there to do what they wanted. It seems you have quite a bit of respect and freedom is your parent company is willing to give you a clean break.

I like the concept of this game but also hope it flops leaving Activision in a spot. Their last gen cash cow fading and their new golden calf doa. Oh, I would love me some Activision humility.

With a game on this scope, the design would have been already finished, though it will lack some final polish on music. And since they hired whole bunch of people during the production, people going in and out is also pretty normal.

What bugs me is the developer's ambiguous explanation of the game's system and their strange lack of enthusiasm on one of the biggest games ever made. I'm not saying every developer should be Randy Pitchford and pitch their game like crazy, but, say, Respawn devs were excited about Titanfall. Jonathan Morin of Watch Dogs was very clear in defending and explaining the game. On the other hand, Bungie execs in Destiny event were strangely confused about their own game, their voice tone strangely passionless. I think that was the moment I started thinking something is wrong.

Bungie can work on others games without Acti. Chances are slum but they can.

No, I am not talking about this current crop of Alpha videos. I think it was back in April, where they had that 7 minute trailer.
Oh my apologies then.
I didn't notice less hype since then in fact..I have noticed more and more talk lately.

I as a BL and Bungie of old fan can only hope for the best.

I think this is one of the most over-hyped games ever. It looks solid, but it still looks like there is "something missing" from this game that I can't put my finger on. It just doesn't look like it's so ground-breaking that they are talking about it being the most expensive game ever built, you know.

A sense of fun ? Or a sense of variety ? How about a sense of difficulty ? What about creativity or individualism.

My only issue from the videos is the emptiness of the game ie not much action and to much walking.

I hope its 60fps as well cause around the same time frame I will be playing BL ps 1080p/60fps.

Digital Foundry did that test thing and found it to be running at locked 30FPS. I do not put much stock in DF, so take with a huge grain of salt.
