Destiny Beta (official thread)

If the number of locations is true (the thing about one area per planet), that may not be necessarily bad. It depends how big those areas are. Skyrim is a decent sized map, but it's technically just one area.

After confirming that Old Russia is the extent of Earth's map, Bungie's David "DeeJ" Dague explained. "You go to Mars, you go to the Moon, you've got Venus, and you've got Earth." When pressed if there were locations outside the solar system he responded, "Not so far, We've revealed everything that you'll explore in the first version of the game.". He goes on to add that the game is the largest Bungie has made to date and they plan to extend the game well beyond release. I imagine Activision has an extensive plan to support this game through DLC and its planitary structure lends itself very well to this.

I'll admit that it does sound like it could be on the shorter side, but you guys must be f*ckin wizards with that controller if you're finishing the whole Earth in a little over an hour. Most missions took me 35-40 minutes and the Strike took over an hour.

I am a Wizard from the Moon :D the fastest I got through the strike was less than 15 mins

If it true the game is shorter than what every thinks, well Destiny was intended to be some kind of episodic game that linked together a big story. So DLC is expected to fill the gaps until a Destiny 2 comes out in maybe 2 years.

The game is as long as you want it to be. You can easily spend countless hours "exploring" there are lots of things to do even if they ARE repetitive. At least the combat is solid. The PVP needs a complete overhaul though, imo, or I won't be touching it. I just wish there wasn't so much to gain from doing it.

I was on the fence about this before playing it, not a multiplayer gamer but liked what I was seeing. Played a lot of co-op with my daughter, played a lot of solo as well and even checked out the multiplayer. I was absolutely hooked and will most definitely be getting this. My husband had no interest at all, he heard it was going to be an MMO and that was what killed his interest - until he was watching us play and until he tried it himself and he loved it.

Should have a poll to see if the beta changed anyone's minds, one way or the other.

Very disappointing. When I played the strike in the beta I was paired with 2 randoms and though we died quite a bit and no one talked to each other, we still got through it and it was fun.

Strikes are quite different to raids though. Raids with require communication to succeed, much like trials on ESO I guess. I would hate to have a couple of no talkers in a full blown raid,.

Ok so raids and strikes are two different things? I was thinking they were the same. Good to know.

More odd than anything.

Well, let's start adding some friends so we can do these raids in the future.

It's a strange decision. Bungie are saying that Raids are very hard and will require all 6 players to work effectively together, and so for that reason raids will have no match making. So what happens when you only have one or maybe two friends playing the game? From the sounds of it, 2 players won't be able to either play these or beat these? Sounds like total BS to me.

Exactly, man. Its hard to get two or three dudes on at the same time to game with let alone five. And if the Raids can't be completed without a full team that means Raids will be locked out to many players. I'm really disappointed with this decision and I hope Bungie reverses themselves.

If it turns out that you can beat a raid mission with two players with some effort and patience we will know it was total FUD that they didn't put match making in.

Will it even let you in if you don't have 6 people? I usually play with three other guys. Are we going to be shut out because we're 2 people short?

Why not give us an option? Trying get get a bunch of people together all at the same time is no easy thing when we are all married, have kids, work full time, a some going to school. A matchmaking system would be very nice, even if you success rate is low, shouldn't still be choice? I would rather try and fail then not have the option at all

According to this part you're sh!t out of luck.

It's a bit of a risk," Bungie writer Luke Smith told IGN. "Because the activity requires you to have a group of five other friends to play with...

So Raids require a six person team of friends. It will be difficult for me to take part in them but I am encouraged by the mention of daily Nightfall activities that go beyond the story and bounties available in the game. We should get more information about that in the lead up to release.

Considering that these raids are pushing 2 hours in length, it makes sense to me that it is friends only. Last thing you would want half way through is a bunch of people dropping out.
