Destiny Beta (official thread)

i wish pve was more than constant mindless shootbang. the environments and sky boxes are pretty but i'm not sure how long that can carry the pve

Agreed, the moon level is pretty bad, considering this is coming from the guys who brought us Halo (which IMO has the most fun and balanced vehicles in any FPS), the use of vehicles in Destiny's PVP multiplayer is just plain awful.
.................. if feels exactly like Halo's vehicles which is my problem with it.

In response to MW's constant bleating, I, yes I, thoroughly enjoyed the beta.

it took like an hour to do the the story missions in the beta, so the story mode is gonna be 5-6 hours long....

I enjoyed the beta. I'm still planning on picking this up on day 1.

I suck at PVP, but only played 4-5 matches. Seems there were more Titans than any other classes. I was getting killed much faster than I could pull off. Not sure what kind of weapons they were using. There really wasn't that much time to react. I get off a couple pops before I'm down.

The game is great but anyone that followed the Halo games should know that you can't really trust the Bungie hype machine
What do you mean? Are you saying Halo didn't meet expectations?

So what's the difference between this game and Borderlands aside from the art style?

Going by the reddit post, looks like the content is limited with DLC packs coming. And the game is much more limited in movement and not a sandbox exploration game after all (see those mountains? You can walk to them!..... mope you can't)

WD Chicago is larger than Destiny's game world.
I didn't play through the whole Destiny beta, and nobody knows how big the others parts of the game are, but it would be amazingly funny if WD's Chicago was anywhere close to Destiny's galactic planet exploration areas combined.

I am kinda liking Destiny but Borderlands 2 is much better.

The VS gameplay is unbalanced mess caught between trying to be Halo and trying to not be Halo. It pales in comparison to next gen COD, BF and Titanfall, let alone come close to matching the classic Halo or MW titles.
The depth of the RPG experience is a small step beyond the persistent character progression found in a Battlefield title and makes Borderlands look like a full blown RPG.
The quests fall into the repetitive, backtracking rut that most MMO RPGs have figured out how to minimize over the last decade.
The dungeons, aka strikes, are a short, but decent bit of coop gameplay, that unfortunately, do nothing to promote teamwork or distinguish classes from one another.
The massive multiplayer online component of 16 max players servers zero point outside of 'kill this bullet sponge world events' and lets emote dance everywhere. Even an action MMO-lite like PSO had more ways for the community to engage with each other ten years ago.
The story is a rehashing of the same tired SciFi tropes that Halo and Mass Effect both built more engaging campaigns around. Hopefully this rumored 12 hours experience can be a good fun as long as you ignore anything they are trying to say and just shoot things that move and admire the skybox.

The game is a soulless, homogenized pile of crap served on a shiny platter of hype that can't come soon enough. Next gen is withering, it is too bad we have to hydrate ourselves on this piss water until the real relief arrives in October.

I wasn't blown away with Destiny either. Seems ok, but nothing special. And the technical aspects (frame rate, blur effect etc...) had a last-genny feel to it.

I have to say your quote above is literary genius! Reaching for my can of Pepsi I knock it over grinning! Thankfully, it is empty. But will grab another now. lol

How presumptuous...

If nothing else, Destiny will cause me to want Borderlands 3 even more.

Cancelled my Amazon pre-order. I was going to do that anyway. Wanted to get it digitally. That'll give Bungie more time to dole out more details. I still think I'm getting it.

Beta was cool but I didnt find anything particularly special about the game, other than its a Bungie game. It has its charms, but not enough to warrant a purchase. One thing it does pretty well is have you trying like hell to upgrade your Guardian and weapons. But then again, all that works comes down to run, shoot, jump, repeat. Just wasnt my cup of tea...

My addiction has been Powerstar Golf, and thats with the Beta being released if that tells you anything....

I still don't know how I feel about this title. It was a Beta so I keep that in mind. Even with that said, it just doesn't seem like there was anything innovative about this title. It's a nice new series, but it seems so 'dumbed down' for the lowest common demoninator again. There's just no depth to it. You do a five minute mission, go back to the space ship, load the next five minute mission that involves back-tracking over & over or finding a few scraps. Where is all the creativity in mission structure? Is that the best they can do in this day & age: "Find five such & such..." again & again? Where's the huge open world they promised us with MMO qualities?

I dunno, I hate to be too negative, but this game was like an 7.5-8 out of 10 to me. I thought it was better than TitanFail since it appears there's more content, but just barely. I fear this game will be so short that I'll beat it in a night or two. They are saying there's four territories when the game ships, Earth, Moon, Mars, Venus...and the whole Earth was in the Beta. I could beat the whole Earth thing in probably a little over an hour or so. The game does feel soulless & bland.

Rumors are going all over the place. I hear the only area on earth is Old Russia and I hear there are two other areas on earth. I hear that you'll only be earth, the moon, mercury, Venus, and mars. And I hear there will also be the asteroid belt and moon of various other planets. Who the f*** knows. All I do know is all this speculation is tipping people the wrong way, myself included. I'm keeping my eyes and ears closed to the game until much closer to release.

I'll admit that it does sound like it could be on the shorter side, but you guys must be f*ckin wizards with that controller if you're finishing the whole Earth in a little over an hour. Most missions took me 35-40 minutes and the Strike took over an hour.
