A few weeks ago we had compared the beta versions of Destiny on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We concluded that the PS4 version has better texture filtering but since it was only the beta version there was no way to declare which version looks better. The Xbox One beta was not running at full 1080p resolution back then but it gave us a pretty good feel of what to expect from that particular version.

Now that the final retail versions are available, we stacked up the PS4 and Xbox One versions against each other for an initial round of testing. We took the introduction and some gameplay footage from the initial levels of the game. And just like the beta, the PlayStation 4 version still shines with not only better texture filtering but sharper image quality, vibrant colors and effects. Even the custom anti-aliasing solution is better on Sony’s system. This in no way means that the Xbox One version is dumbed down in anyway but the extra horsepower of the PS4 just shows.

We will have our final verdict on Destiny next week. We will also compare the last gen versions against each other and see how they stack up against the newer console versions. There is a lot to explore in Destiny so stay tuned.

A win win for current gen owners. I want teh 60fps though :(

The colors on the PS4 version are definitely more vibrant but almost to the point in which it looks a bit too vibrant. Looks great on both though.

60 FPS will probably come in the sequel -- which I'm hoping will be current gen only.

in that vid i kept thinking "which side is ps4/xb1?"

I thinking the last gen version will compare fairly well to this gen actually, considering.

I guess it is all perspective. I thought the 360 Beta looked for for a system going on year 8 and this morning I fired up the full game on my XB1 and about crapped my pants. So purdy and smooooooth.

Is it 30 or 60 fps on next gen consoles?

Whoa! Bungie must have bent the laws of physics. A better looking game on more powerful hardware, IMPOSSIBLE!

Ehh... What's so funny? The colors in the video for the PS4 version look like a TV with the color setting set a bit too high. They both look great though.

I just found that funny. Last gen, quite often, 360 games were more "vibrant", quite often crushing colors, and yet xbox gamers bashed the PS versions of games for not being vibrant and washed out. Now, we have a PS game more vibrant....and it's "too" vibrant?

I agree both look fine, and either version will be great....but "too vibrant"? I just got a chuckle at that.

It's not so much that the PS version is too vibrant, it's literally that the XB1 version "in comparison" looks washed out....(the same argument used against PS3 games)

Image on left looks washed out, so xbox fans will claim the right is "too vibrant".

Looking at the above images, I don't see colors being more "vibrant"....I literally see one image being sharper than the other. The colors are the same, they just appear more vibrant because one is more washed out than the other.

Well, whatever Game Volt, or Bolt or whatever is using for video sucks. Oddly enough, the beta of the Xbox One looked more vibrant than the PS4. I wonder why that would have changed. I haven't seen the PS4 final version on my TV yet though.

From playing both betas Id say the XBO version looked blurrier and dull.

Uhh... why I you comparing them to me? I simply made a post about how I felt the game looked. The colors on the Xbox One version seemed more accurate to me (as someone who calibrates my TV a lot and doesn't like very vibrant color settings).

Heh, okay. That's fine. Can't debate with how you see things.

I'm not directly comparing them to you. All I did was laugh. I found the comment both funny and ironic...at a time that we're seeing the exact reactions from the other side compared to last gen....regardless of who's making the comments.

As for "debating" how I see things...the images are perfectly clear. One image doesn't have different colors than the other. It's clearly, simply, that one image is more washed out than the other. Since the PS4 is sharper and not washed out...colors appear to be more vibrant....but when you look close, they're the same damn color. Look at the below zoomed in. Colors are the same, but clearly the xbox version is washed out....probably due to PS4's textures being a tad bit better. The image on the left has a slight haze to it, but again, colors are the same. It's laughable that someone would say the right is "too vibrant" as in defense to the left image.

What you should see is that the set up is different on each side. Just look at the difference in the letterbox. Should tell you this vid is pretty much worthless, as each side is not optimized for the machine using it.

I'd throw a fit if my blacks were that bad.

I agree. I'm just pointing out how nonsensical it is to claim that the PS4 version is "too" vibrant as if it was a fault....when considering last gen, everyone faulted PS3 for not being so vibrant. Honestly, even looking at the videos, both games look near identical, other than one looking a tad bit washed out...and literally a tad bit.

Your blacks are that bad with XBO as I stated earlier it has a HDMI issue that crushes blacks and still has yet to be fixed completely.

Yeah, never got the knocks on subjective issues. Hell, that's something that can be changed on one's TV. I really don't remember PS3 getting knocked for being too vibrant. I always liked the color depth.

My comment was toward the video setting not being on the same in the the comparison video. My Xbox (and it's blacks) looks great on my tv. I was saying I'd be unhappy if my video settings look like that. It's obviously not set right.
