Destiny Reviews Thread

alright, but I don't know about those other games, I'm just betting halo 5 one month sales vs destiny ps4 one month sales. Thats it. You down? One month ban.
I am down if and when the other bets fall through(unless they wanna backout)

OT what did gametrailers give Destiny?

are you doing permaban for the others? I'm not backing out at all, I'm firm, halo 5 will outsell destiny ps4, despite ps4 having more consoles on the market. :)

no idea bout GT, I'd guess a 7.7

Sure after the one's who bet me Destiny wouldn't outsell HMCC(LOL) and that Uncharted 4 will outsell Halo 5 bets are done and they take there bans I will bet you.

EDIT: To reexplain what i meant by Destiny being a bigger success is sales and popularity with gamers as a whole...MANY are jumping to Destiny and many(myself included) jumped away from Halo.

Would you consider the gaf Destiny Review thread to be anything to go by?

I think PS4 gamers are probably enjoying Destiny because it takes solid gameplay mechanics Bungie refined over a decade ago, and puts them in a game which PlayStation gamers have never had on their platform... so I can understand why PS gamers are enjoying it so much. It's the "Halo" they never had... the problem is, it's not as good as Halo, it's boring and repetitive, it takes a step BACK from Halo on loading times and seamlessness, not to mention it's not a graphical showcase on any level, and Halo was.

I'm happy for PS gamers, though. Any who've resisted Halo and are playing Destiny are probably in for quite a treat... even if it is a little repetitive, uninspired, and outdated.

The Gamespot review http://www.gamespot.com/reviews/destiny-review/1900-6415863/ seems to sum up exactly what I thought when first seeing all those gameplay videos. A boring, repetitive, bland game. All sitting a top decent game mechanics. Couple that with the pitfall of end game grinding like is generally the case with these archaic MMO type games. The lack-luster story and beautiful but not very dynamic worlds.

Seems like Watchdogs all over again. A hugely hyped and popular game that ends up mediocre. Only difference is I fell for the Watchdogs hype :mad:

Agreed. I think Titan has the better game mechanics and overall fun factor hands down. PS gamers love destiny because it's the closest they've had to a Halo. But Destiny is no Halo. I won't even give it a "hello" .... It's more been there done that, with loads of other people. The multi-player in Destiny is super dull too. I tried playing that during the beta and it just felt uninspired. halo 5 is going to run circles around this. But at least ps players kind of understand what it's like to have a halfway competent FPS.

So many thumbs downs for the GS review. People mad

You mean people who do not understand that a review is an opinion and then try to counter it by giving their opinion did not agree with the reviewers opinion...nah, it can not be true.:D

Yeah not sure why anyone is talking about that or Halo seeing as this is a Destiny topic in the Destiny section.

DESTINY.

Gotta love the Xbox fanbots pushing Titanfall in a Destiny thread.
That's genuinely not my intent. I just didn't find anything extraordinary about the title. In fact, it's too ordinary for the amount of hype it received. Some weren't too fond of Titan, but it brought innovation with it. At least it attempts to do different things (and succeeds for the most part IMO) I truly thought Destiny would try something new or bring something genre defining in its wake. Something! But it doesn't. There only been one title thus far that's accomplished that. And unfortunately it's not this.....

Only one title has bought innovation thus far IMO, and it is not a shooter. Why would you expect innovation from a game that had not showed any such thing in all its videos. No mention of such a thing in any preview or hands on impressions ? Titanfall does not innovate either, it has wall running which is not new, many of its aspects are tweaked COD stuff, and mechs, well, mechs are obviously not new.

Oh, and that innovative game is Forza 5 by the way, with its driveatar system. While the concept is not exactly new, the game has bought it to the masses and in a real high quality way. This feature IMO should be in every racer from here on out.

Back on topic....

Will be interesting to see how this game fares once all places get their reviews out. Already down at 74 on metacritic and I see it only falling. Polygon, Giant bomb, and gamespot gave it less than steller reviews. Gametrailers will like it hype as it is their mandate to praise all playstation. IGN, who knows. I see a 7 coming from them.

There aren't many new AAA IP's this Gen, so it makes sense.

So far, Destiny brings nothing new to the table, and is worse than other titles which came before it where it does something good.

Titanfall actually brings new gameplay to the table, and it's polished/fun.

Why is it a problem to talk about new IP's in a thread about a new IP?

Actually its a thread to talk about Destiny's reviews.

It's a game specific thread. If you think other games are better in certain areas then just say "Other Games" which game it is is irrelevant IMO.

Destiny is a new IP. The reviews talk about the game design, what it brings to the table, where it innovates, and where it doesn't. When talking about innovation, and reviews - it's completely natural and logical to compare and contrast among others.

You mods need to lighten up. What, are you going to start complaining about people bringing up Halo too?

Hahahaa... You can't be serious.

Wow. How completely ridiculous.

All I see is you bringing up games not on PlayStation to diss a game that is.

All I see is you bringing up games not on PlayStation to diss a game that is.

Then you need to read my posts better.

The reviews for Destiny are not great. Whether it's on PS4 or not is irrelevant to all but one of my posts here. Destiny is on X1. If it were exclusive to X1, I'd say the same thing.

It doesn't deserve the hype, and finally that's proving to be true (something I've been saying for months).

This thread is about reviews. Reviews are subjective, opinion pieces. In opinion pieces, it's natural to speak about comparisons and contrasts. Not sure why that's a problem here...

Edit: But I'll stop being a prickly pear now. My apologies for any actual or perceived derailment.

I agree about Destiny that it is kinda boring.

Otherwise you're way off and it sounds like you're coming from the perspective that people are like you and stick to one brand for gaming. A lot of PS4 players this gen were Xbox gamers last gen. Myself and everyone I know who had a 360 last gen now is gaming on the PS4. Look at the reviews, look at the sales. We have 22 Destiny critic reviews on PS4 and 3 Destiny critic reviews on Xbox one on metacritic as of this morning, and I notice that trend lately how many more places are reviewing PS4 games than Xbox one versions. It's the reverse of last gen. Fact is most people are gaming on PS4 for this gen and most people were gaming on 360 last gen. Who seriously hasn't played Halo? It is a great series, but how many people seriously stick to one brand of console over three generations and have never played Halo? I personally don't know a single PS4 gamer who hasn't enjoyed Halo in the past. I almost dropped out of medical school because of Halo 2, personally.

This game is Too Human. "Hey guys we're totally making Destiny games for the next ten years". Doesn't matter if it's any good or not, or if people really like it. I liked Too Human though, but you'd be a fool if you thought the metascore wasn't fair.

I only played the demo for this, and I didn't think it was bad at all, but I wondered if that was pretty much the whole game. Turns out that was the case. If the impressions that the missions are 90% 'exactly' the same, then that alone is egregious enough a fault that scores of 6-7 are justified.

Overhyping of mediocre products, doesn't look good for consoles if this is the state of play for big publishers.

Reviews are subjective, opinion pieces.

Well, not really. Destiny is getting bad reviews because the reviewers are forced to be objective. Given some of the faults outlined, seems like a lot of critics would feel like they have no choice but to assign bad scores. Even if they like the game.

Well I'm glad the reviews put this in place. But the game is good, just not super nova good how SONY try to be.

Doubt it. I'd venture to say through anecdotal stories and evidence that the majority of 360 owners were also PS3 owners. You're going under the impression that PS4 players enjoying Destiny never played Halo.

I'd venture to say that people are enjoying the game simply because they like games where they feel like they explore and get loot. No different than Diablo. At it's core, when you realllllllly think about it, Diablo could be pretty boring as well. Same with WoW. People enjoy these games because of the illusion of exploring and finding new gear.

I didn't see your response before I posted mine...but spot on.
Again, like I said, anecdotal evidence, but everyone I personally know that is somewhat enjoying Destiny, played Halo, and didn't care for Halo, or has moved on from Halo and just doesn't enjoy the game anymore.

On that note, same goes for CoD....I know many people that have moved on. Fact is, for all it's flaws, Destiny is different, and people are wanting to enjoy this game. People like exploring, upgrading loot, etc. Just because it "looks" like Halo doesn't mean people like it because it's the Halo they never played. That's pure nonsense.

TF is far from a AAA title everybody in the real world knows this.
Maybe next time.

I consider what I actually see which is people everywhere talking about it and flocking to get it.

I'm not going to disagree with that, it is absolutely the most talked about game in some time.
