Dragon Age: Inquisition - Nov. 18

Very nice looking game, I never played the others because I thought that not only did they look ugly graphically but watching people swing their swords at almost eye level to hit a rat that was below their knees just kind of killed the presentation for me.

Game looks gorgeous in some places, ugly in others. The trailer was cut in a very uninspired way as well. Yep, it's Dragon Age.

Goes to show just how big this game is. With the tad too traditional Bioware reinventing the wheel, I just can't help but riding the hype train.

I think it looks gorgeous.
I hate to keep repeating this, but I hope the console versions look as close to this as possible.

Looks to have a nice variety of environments. I never played a DA game but it looks nice

BINGO! Maybe this one will actually do it for me.

I think this looks really solid. I'm definitely excited for it.

This and the Witcher 3 are in a dead heat for my most anticipated games of the year. Origins is one of my favorite games ever, and despite the repetitive environments, and lack of depth of DA2, I still really enjoyed it. I love the world of Thedas, and from what ive seen so far, this game is not being rushed out the door by EA, as was the case with DA2. By the time this comes out, it will have had a 3 and a half year dev cycle. Giving Bioware that much time can only be a good thing.

Same here. Witcher probably has the edge, but this looks very promising as well. It's only Bioware's previous stumbling that makes me hesitate.

Looks great, but I'm not going to let myself get hyped for this. I thought ME3 and DA2 were complete garbage, so while I am routing for BioWare to get back to greatness and more importantly back to making real RPG's, I am hesitant as well.

I just saw these in a thread on neogaf. I have never played a DA game but will check this out for sure

One of my most eagerly awaited next gen titles. Can't wait. Please be 2014. I need more RPGs...

Ooo, very nice. I'm hoping Fall 2014. I'm trusting that Bioware has taken the feedback they were given on DA2 and changed things. The early indications are pretty good.

That first pic is really cool. Whatever that thing is, I want to kill it.

Its on my radar because its a RPG, but i have to admit DA2 gives me some pause to trust Bioware.

Here is some new info from an OXM preview, posted by someone on the Bioware forums:

--- quoting ----

Below are points that I hope you will find noteworthy and enjoy reading:

1. There will be 5 regions in Dragon Age: Inquisition: Fereldan, The Free Marches, Orlais, Nevarra and the Dales:

-2 of the areas you can expect to visit are; a war-torn region in Orlais and an elven burial ground, known as the Emerald Graves.

-The Emerald Graves, according to executive producer Mark Darrah, is where the Dalish Elves planted one tree for every soldier killed in the Exalted Marches.

-According to the magazine, while enemy levels don't scale to your characters, you can affect environmental changes to drastically influence local settlements, establish trade routes, capture territory and disrupt the local ecosystem.

-Wild flora and fauna, useful for crafting can be hunted to scarcity, allowing other species to proliferate.

-Defeating intelligent enemies like bandits or dragons will have a significant effect on a given region.

2. Dragon Age Inquisition Companions:

-There will be no DLC Companions: According to Creative Director Mike Laidlaw: "Because of how deeply enmeshed in the system companion characters are, we can't just add them on the fly; part of them has to be shipped on the disc...which was led to criticism that we're forcing people to pay for content they already own. It's not the case, but we've decided this time to not go that route. There will be no DLC party members."

-Solas is an apostate and an expert on the Fade.

The Iron Bull is confirmed as a companion, who is described as "a one-eyed mercenary and outcast from the Qunari faith"

-Sera is confirmed as a companion, and is described as "an elven archer. Little is known about them [referring to both Sera and the Iron Bull] at this point, particularly Sera, who turned up seemingly on accident during one of several combat demonstrations..."

3. The Dialogue Wheel:

-"We have three wheels that we use in response to any given piece of dialogue" says Gaider. "One of those is what we call the 'tone wheel', which is mostly for role-playing choices. The other two are the 'choice wheel'- for taking an action or stating an opinion-and the 'reaction wheel,' for emotional moments"

4. The Inquisitor:

-There will be 4 voices for the Inquisitor 2 for each gender, for all races

-To address why the same voices apply to all races, Mike Laidlaw made the following statement: "It's a matter of file size...if we were to have eight voices, two for each race, we would be shipping on 14 discs or something. We figured that with four voices, that would give players enough options while staying within our size limitations"

-Bioware is currently exploring options to differentiate the voices, like changing the pitch of the audio.

-The Prologue Section (or the "Origin" section" will be the same for all players. The player's appearance, class and dialogue responses during the prologue section will fill in the details, presumably of the Inquisitor's background, and in particular inform how other characters respond to you throughout the story.

-The Inquisitor is the sole survivor of a reality-shattering event which results in the Fade tearing opening throughout Thedas.

-"Presumbly as a result [of the Fade tearing open throughout Thedas], you're also endowed with a singular ability: you can close these rifts wherever they appear throughout the continent."

5. Endings:

-"Bioware is promising a staggering 40 possible endings for the game, dependent not only on choices made in character generation but by actions taken throughout the storyline. [Mark] Darrah stresses, however, that the endings will all be meaningfully different from one another. You won't find 40 endings with only slight degrees of variation between them."

6. Customization:

-Armour weights are no longer class specific. Meaning a rogue can wear a mage's robes, and a mage can wear a warrior's armour. The magazine speculates the penalties will be similar to the fatigue penalties used in DA: Origins

7. Other information:

-There will be a jar of bees, which can be used as a combat item which according to Bioware: "You throw it, the jar breaks open, and little bees fly around stinging your opponents."

Dragon Age is quickly turning into my most anticipated game of the year. Bioware, don't let this slip into 2015.

I am not sold on 40 endings but that is because I usually do not care about such things, since there is only one ending that I choose.

This might sound crazy, but I am losing anticipation a little bit, moving my interest to some other games. But that is what happened to me with Dragon Age Origins as well, so, I have a very good feeling about this.

Let's hope this is more like Dragon Age: Origins than Dragon Age II. That aside, I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on a new Bioware RPG. Maybe I can finally wash the taste of the ME3 ending away.

Some info from PAX:

"Romances in Inquisition will take a different flavor than it has in different games. You can have affectionate romance, a rivalry-based forbidden romance, even a humorous romance."

"Your companions come from a diverse set of backgrounds, although they are each the best at what they do. This is in contrast to the previous game, where all your companions were outcasts, in one way or another."

"The game is made in such a way that it rewards exploration, such as loot and memorable boss encounters."

"There will be a degree of verisimilitude, with creatures and enemies being made to fit a certain environment, which will have their own unique hazards and effects."

"Laidlaw has gone on record that the game is full of unreliable narratives, so you have to consider who you’re getting story from in the game with a wary eye."

"This is odd, but they won’t confirm long, flowing hair for women characters. They are allegedly running into real technical issues depicting it because the armor has variable heights. They are still working on it for now."

The closer this game gets, and the more I hear about it, the more psyched I become. I just pray it doesn't get pushed into next year. With The Witcher 3 already being delayed, that would really bum me out.

Oh, and im thinking the "rivalry based forbidden romance" would lead to the kinkier love scene. Ima go for that lol.

I am pretty wary of the game. The first 2 games didn;t really do much for me, but I'm hoping this iteration will be different.

Best thing said about the game thus far is this, IMO.

"The game is made in such a way that it rewards exploration, such as loot and memorable boss encounters."

It's does seem to be a fairly divisive series, especially in terms of DA2. For me though, and this is in all honesty, Origins is in my top 5 greatest RPGs ever, and that's mostly due to how much I became endeared to the cast. The overall story in DAO pertaining to the Arch Demon was fairly standard fantasy stuff, but its what went on around it between the characters that truly made the game stand out.

It hadn't been since FF7 that I loved a group of characters and their interplay so much, and honestly, I haven't played a game with that effect since Origins. I enjoyed the combat, the lore was incredibly rich, and the world was epic, but the writing in DAO was really something special to me. At the time of its release, it had the most recorded dialogue of any game ever, and a 5 year development cycle. It was top notch Bioware. I have high hopes for DA3. By the time it releases, it will have been in development for over three and a half years. That's a stark contrast to DA2's short dev cycle (thanks for shoving it out the door EA, you pricks).
