Ghost of Tsushima - Directors Cut Rated By ESRB For PS4/5

Kinda sucks that they charge 10 bucks just for the basic upgrade to PS5 but I am getting the DLC so its included in the 30 bucks(probably 35 CAD). I redownloaded the PS4 version overnight on my PS5,thank god I got this one digital on PS4. ;)

I'm annoyed with how little we've seen of both the DLC and next gen upgrades at this point.
I was too but then I just figured they want to surprise us. We have the base game to go by which is spectacular so I think anyone who liked the main game will feel the same about the DLC.

Funny thing about the upgrade process. I noticed today that this new DLC will be releasing soon. I don't know if I'll start this DLC on the day of release but I wanted to preorder the upgrade for the extra goodies, I'm a sucker for useless digital swag.

Anyway, I purchased the upgrade and thought alright all I have to do now is download the base game and I'll be ready to go as soon as I'm ready to play. I went into my games list to pull up the base game for download and couldn't find it. I confirmed it was there before I purchased the upgrade so I was confused. But it seems that once you purchase the upgrade the base game disappears from the list of digitally purchased games and I had to go through the PSN Store to download the game. I guess that makes sense since the upgrade is for the enhanced PS5 Edition.

I think it's because it's a native version of the game and you can't just patch the older base build to get all the enhancements of the PS5.

Good to know that you just need the PS4 save file on the local PS5 to transfer over, not like FF7 Remake, whew.

I downloaded my save file from the Cloud on to my PS5. So I should be in good shape once this releases. I'll have to re-learn the controls but I'm sure muscle memory will kick in pretty quickly.

When I transferred my save file I was surprised to see that by default my PS5 was not uploading my saves to the Cloud. I had to manually toggle it on which means all that I've played on PS5 so far is only saved locally so I uploaded some of my saves just in case. Its my fault for assuming it was on and never checking, can't blame me for wanting to jump right into games and forgetting to investigate the PS5 settings after purchase. Ohh well, live and learn.

I hope the Death Stranding enhanced version uses the same method for save transfers by just downloading from the Cloud and uploading to the PS5. As much I liked DS I don't fancy having to sink in another couple dozen hours into it just to play the DLC with all the stuff I earned in the main game. So I downloaded my DS save file as well with fingers and toes crossed.

Higher resolution (yet still checker boarded) and faster loading times for a $10 charge? Seriously, Sony? No other upgrades whatsoever? I am really hating Sony's business model this gen.

So I will only buy the DLC without doing the upgrade to PS5 and play the BC PS4 Pro version on the PS5 for the new island.

Dat TaxStation 5 yo.

I still need to finish this game.

I'm tempted to wait for a discount, I haven't been gaming much lately. We'll see. I'll probably end up getting it, but I hate supporting the kind of crap Sony is doing lately, I'm shocked there's not more push back or anger from the Sony fanboys.

So resolution mode > framerate.

Honestly if this wasn't free from my trade-in, I probably would have waited for a sale to play the DLC as the PS5 upgrades don't really warrant the extra $10.

Two graphics modes are availability, one which favours frame-rate and the other more interesting option that targets a higher resolution. In both modes, it seems that Ghost of Tsushima retains the checkerboarding mode used in the PS4 Pro version of the game, with both targeting 60 frames per second. The frame-rate option sticks to the 1800p checkerboard presentation seen on the PS4 version running under backwards compatibility, while the resolution option sees pixel counts bumped to full 2160p checkerboard, for added clarity. Dynamic resolution scaling can't be ruled out, but everything we've seen and tested so far does indicate a fixed resolution. Performance on both modes is essentially identical. It's 60 frames per second locked to the point where dropping back to the frame-rate mode seems to be pointless.

The developer taps into the storage capabilities of PS5 more effectively, meaning that the already very fast loading is now instant. On top of that, 3D audio and DualSense haptics are deployed. On top of that, what were previously pre-rendered video cinematics on PS4 are now generated in real-time on PS5, opening the door to proper lip-sync animations with the Japanese soundtrack. All cutscenes now run at a properly frame-paced 30 frames per second, which is interesting as the PS4 version running under backwards compatibility always ran the engine-driven cinematics at 60fps, with only the video sequences at 30fps. I assume Sucker Punch did this for consistency's sake, but I would have preferred to see the whole game play out at the faster frame-rate.

Ultimately, what we have here is a reasonable array of revisions, but it does feel that Sony is charging for the kind of upgrades that other developers and publishers are giving away for free and in actual fact, the biggest upgrade of all - 60fps - was already given away with the original release. While the game is excellent and the improvements obviously add to the experience, there isn't the kind of vast improvement we saw in the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man (which was a paid upgrade) or Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition (which wasn't). Beyond the resolution, cutscene and loading boosts, there's not much else to differentiate the native PlayStation 5 version from its back-compat plus counterpart: draw distances are the same as PS4 Pro, effects quality is a match and geometry is unchanged. Art improvements? We caught sight of sparing texture upgrades, but little of actual significance.

Taking a step back and looking at Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut from another perspective, I am happy to see that the whole package can be bought for PlayStation on disc. So for those who are on PlayStation 5, who don't own the PS4 version or may not have owned a PS4 at all, that's a great option - and for collectors of physical games like me, it's good to know that the complete package is available in an archive format.

I was gonna say just get the regular PS4 version to save money, but I see Sony has already removed and delisted it from the PS Store.

Perhaps Sony PS management feels that being so pro-consumer last generation was great for building good will but also left money on the table that they should have received. So they are now trying to correct that with these policies to charge for almost everything that they can.

I can say I'm also not happy with how Sony has handled some things. I guess myself and others like me who are not happy and shrug their shoulders and "say there's no choice but to pay" if we want to experience something new or enhanced are part of the problem.

I've already 100%-ed the base game, it was one of my favs from last gen which is probably why I'm a bit more upset about this than I should be. If we hadn't already received the free 60fps patch earlier this year, these upgrades probably would seem a bit more substantial than they do now. The DF guys seemed a bit surprised there wasn't more too though. Even the expansion sounds smaller & shorter than I was expecting for the price. If all $30 was going straight to Sucker Punch, the price wouldn't bug me nearly as much.

Ah, ok I remember that now. I forgot you already mastered it!

If I had already played this game I could see myself being upset as well. Just glad when I bought the PS4 version in June(?) it was only $30, so I'm not paying more with the update than straight PS5 version at least.

So it sounds like the Iki island will take about 8 hours or so to complete the main storyline and an extra 4-5 hours to 100%.

Reviews are coming in and looking good.

Looks to be rather short, about 6 hours.

Just got the reminder call from my local EBgames that my DC preorder is available for pick up tomorrow. Will post back on impressions after I've played through.

12ish hours to do everything seems to be the common estimate. The ability to replay strongholds / duels and do new game+ will definitely give me some additional hours of fun too. I think I'm going to bite the bullet. Not as meaty of an upgrade or large of a DLC as I would have liked, but some of these other perks and additions give you more to do once you've maxed your character and completed the quests.

The fact that they charge 10 bucks to essentially unlock the framerate and resolution is nuts, imo. They didn't even push out lods or improve settings. Cutscenes are real-time now. Woo.

Great game tho.

The changes are basically increased resolution, Japanese voiceover real time cutscenes rendering and loading times boosts for the extra $10. PS4 BC mode already unlocked the 60fps.
