Just finished the main storyline of Iki. Took a hair under 10 hours. Now on to explore more of the island and finish the other stuff on the main
I'm surprised they still haven't patched the issue where the black levels in HDR can't be adjusted using the PS4/PS5's internal HDR Calibration tool. You either have to raise the brightness level in game or via your display, and wash a bit of the HDR out.
Lazy or confounding HDR implementations that never get fixed have become one of my biggest annoyances in gaming.
I think the Persona (5) Royal re-release didn't cause a stir because it added so much to the original package. From what I've read and watched there's dozens of hours of additional content like new storylines, added abilities and new playable characters. I didn't double dip simply because I spent over 130hrs in the original and want to get to other games before I'm locked into a few months worth of gaming with Royal.
The same can't be said for this DLC/Upgrade. The game looks pretty much like it did on the PS4 Pro. That's not a shot at the game but rather praise for it looking and performing as well as it did on last generation hardware. And from what others have said about the length of this new DLC its worth about 10-12 hours of new content which seems fair. Sony is getting too greedy and should have only charged with the new additional content and not the miniscule graphical upgrade.
As far as the new content goes I've only played a couple hours so far. The combat seems to be more challenging at least until I was able to remember the controls and to use my upgraded Ghost Weapons/Gadgets. After that I was back to dominating while being outnumbered. Its a lot of fun though and I really like the new Horse ability. I've used it a lot and it just doesn't get old. I haven't done any duels yet, those were my favorite part of the base game.
I don't get the point of doing that though, they should only worry about testing the gameplay portions not worrying about photo mode where most of the time there is no framerate because it's frozen on a single screen. Their photo mode is a bit different because it allows things to remain animated in the environment but most of them don't. It just seems like a silly thing to waste time doing when it has no relevance to the actual gameplay. He mentioned that his goal was to stress test the engine as much as possible and that was the only way he found he could drop the locked 60. He then emphasizes that this isn't what you would see in normal gameplay so no need to worry for any drops.
Just beat the first act. I've done all of the side missions that I've found so far although there are a few places I haven't done in the first region so might be more in those areas. Question though... any chance I get the ninja looking armor any time soon? I have a mission to get Sakai family armor but guessing that isn't it.
I guess it's just called ghost armor lol. But it's in a few images in game including the Ghost section on the techniques page.Which is the ninja looking armour?
The Sakai Clan one is good too, need to fully level that and the Sakai samurai sword for that trophy
You'll get it in Act 2 (towards the end if I'm remembering correctly). You could power through the story and then once you get the Ghost armor, do all the side stuff in the second region.I guess it's just called ghost armor lol. But it's in a few images in game including the Ghost section on the techniques page.
Completed the DLC and it was short but sweet. The Shaman enemy type made things interesting until I had enough of their crap and started prioritizing them as the first victim in every battle, lol. The Bloodborne armor dye was a nice Easter Egg but there's a way better set to get from a quest line that makes you a Perfect Parry God, its so good.
I bought this game when it first came out and gave up after the first mission because I died so much and quit. Now I have the PS5 directors cut and started new. I already got past where I couldn’t get past before. The Water Stance to take down shields and stealth to assassinate has helped tremendously as is learning to roll like a mother f***er and parry.
Beat the game over the weekend and got the platinum as well. Will take a break and come back to Iki at another time. Can't think of other games from last year that I played, but either way going to assume this is easily GOTY for me and maybe best PS4 game as well. Quite an amazing story and great combat.
The one negative I will give it is what I have noticed with several other recent games I've beaten including Super-Man 1. It seems like devs decide to make games more difficult at the end by resorting to cheese. For example I noticed the red unblockable attacks by enemies giving them a warp mechanic. Even with me rolling out of the way they are warping towards me. Also, there are like 2-3 enemies shooting arrows at me so I'm spending more time rolling to dodge those, or just have to start the fight running after them while dodging all the fat ass Mongols that have as much speed as me, even when they have the giant human size shields lol. Spider-Man was the same at the end where you're dodging snipers, regular guns, jet pack joyriders etc.
As for the choice at the end:
I went with killing the uncle as that was his wish. Reading up on the choice it doesn't seem like much outside of that option being the samurai path supposedly.
Oh and one other memorable mission in act 2 for Yuriko:
No lie cried during this when she's asking what Jin sees, and when he returns the question to her there is no answer as she has passed. And to make matters worse I bowed on her grave at the end and a bunch of pink flower petals fluttered away.
Its a really good game. But I didn't see the uptick in difficulty as a negative or that there were cheesing me, haha. At that point of the game its assumed that the player has a firm grasp of the more advanced combat mechanics. I don't think you're supposed to roll out of the way of those strikes but rather perform a perfect dodge to evade and get a quick hit in. And my dude, it sounds like you forget about the smoke bombs which could be used not only to chain assassinate enemies in your path but also disorient enemies so you can track down and behead the archers first.Beat the game over the weekend and got the platinum as well.
