How is that government shutdown treating ya?

I heard it was going to effect FHA loan applications and my wife and I are going through that process right now with our mortgage company on a new construction home. I called my loan officer and they informed me we have nothing to worry about with the govt shutdown.

So...yeah, keep it closed for all I care. Less govt = better in my opinion. Millions of people have said they don't want the ACA, yet the Senate doesn't care what Americans say.

that is the core issue.. the senate doesn't care, but that is part of the core issue. The biggest issue is our representatives are not being our representatives. They are voting how it benefits THEMSELVES not their constituents.

this is totally ridiculous... imagine if everything they disagreed upon they take the government hostage by shutting it down.

total BS and acting like kids, esp Tea Party need to fire the lot of them.

This is LAW, i don't agree with some laws as well so is it ok for me not to follow them? good grief

I listen to the radio, people call in constantly to the radio shows here in Texas and they say, they do not want the govt ran healthcare. Plain and simple, many Americans are being more effective by the ACA than the shutdown. When people call-in saying their hours are being cut from their jobs, or their spouses are having huge spikes in their premiums because their companies must abide by the new ACA rules...it's showing the reality of it.

Now maybe in other states, it's different, but at least from Texas, we Texans don't want it.

Laws can be changed and amended though. Look at pre-civil rights.

May I also remind you of the Revolutionary War with England? The American colonies didn't want to pay taxes to a tyrant across the ocean...thus the U.S. was born.

The war was the result of the political American Revolution. The British Parliament insisted it had the right to tax colonists to finance the colonies' military defense, which had become increasingly expensive due to the French and Indian Wars. The colonies argued that they already spent much through local government to maintain their place in the British Empire, with Benjamin Franklin appearing before the British Parliament testifying "The Colonies raised, clothed, and paid, during the last war, near twenty-five thousand men, and spent many millions."[12] The colonists claimed that, as they were British subjects, imposing laws in Parliament upon the colonists, and particularly taxation without representation, was illegal. The American colonists formed a unifying Continental Congress and a shadow government in each colony, though at first wishing to remain in the Empire and loyal to the Crown.

yeah so change the law through normal process instead of holding government ransom, that's how it's been done for hundreds of years not shutting down the government

so you think this is same situation, who's the tyrant here then?

the US govn't has been shut down more than 17 times, by both parties, over issues in the past... this is nothing different. Except this time, one party has proposed fully funding ALL of the government 100% except for the ACA legislation, and gets rejected. Even going as far as saying they would agree to a one year delay at worst if the Senate would approve the spending, and still they get slammed.

it is all about launching that s***ty ACA on the vast majority of Americans who don't want, or need it, or can't afford it. I know it doesn't apply to ALL Americans (myself included), but more than half for sure do not want the law. So in this instance, while people try to paint the Rep party in a bad light, the Dems are the ones keeping the govn't shut down.

If American's are calling their Congress reps over and over telling them, DO NOT FUND ACA...what is Congress suppose to do?

I would say the tyrant is the President and Reid. In my opinion, the President should act as the neutral leader, listening to both sides and listening to the American people. He's wanting his way or the high way. Time and time again, he says, I am open to discussion on reforming the ACA...but it needs to be funded first.

Seriously?

How is that logical at all?

he is trying to get it set in the law books as funded and approved because it is harder to defund and repeal then. plus, he can use that as a party line "see, the ACA was voted into law (without the house voting on it) and it was funded, it has to be good right?"

Next prez election is going to be insane because whoever the Dems nominate for their prez nominee, that person is going to use the shutdown as their primary attack against Pubs. Then the same thing will happen with the Pubs against the Dems, Dems caused the shutdown, etc.

I hate politics and I most certainly hate political parties. Gimmie a cool movie president like Harrison Ford from Air Force One, or Dave, or Morgan Freeman from Deep Impact, lol!

politics is corrupt no matter which way it is cut.

i hate the whole system

Repubs have a 17% approval rating because of this, they shooting themselves because of this fiasco.

Last time I checked, whether you like it or not, Obama ran on Obamacare and got elected twice by majority of US citizens and Supreme Court approved this as LAW.

What's more to be said? It's LAW. Do we like all laws? Likely not but do we take government down because of it?

Nice logic there.

Bernie Sanders giving an interesting opinion as a Independent along with Republican quotes who don't support the shut down.

The rep led house had three years to come up with their recent concessions. Obama compromised on other concessions before. why now? why hold the US hostage over this?
From a political standpoint i dont know what the reps have to gain from digging their feet into the ground other than to make themselves look like complete ass holes.

I would find it hard to believe if an American wanted to go on a shooting spree in protest of the govt shutdown..., this is probably something else.
True, though the timing is perfect. I don't know...

no it was just a lady, with her child that tried to crash the gates at the white house
when she did not succeed the cops chased her.. she hot as far as the capital building where the cops killed her
child is ok

I would like term limits on all of them
our government was set up to have balance of power so we would not end up with a dictator
and that's also why the citizens were allowed to be armed
so they could over throw the government if it ever became a tyranny

Samuel Adams:
"Among the natural rights of the colonists are these: first, a right to life, secondly to liberty, thirdly to property; together with the right to defend them in the best manner they can."
John Adams:
"Arms in the hands of the citizens may be used at individual discretion for the defense of the country, the overthrow of tyranny or private self-defense."
Thomas Jefferson:
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
Thomas Jefferson, in an early draft of the Virginia constitution:
"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms in his own lands."

^ this is why I am an independent, well spoken Mr Sanders

Mr. Sanders is a self-proclaimed socialist. Yes, he has SOME good ideas, but he's for an extreme form of redistribution of wealth. He wants YOU to give up half your income for someone else who is a part-time worker.

I am just talking about what he said in the video, I don't know what else he stands for.

Socialism is stupid, I hate too much taxes as well.

I'm actually glad for the government shutdown(and wish it was permanent) because it mean one less tax moocher e.g. government worker living off my hard earned money....what I also find depressing is the fact it demonstrate how dependent on government people actually are which is quite sad for country that claim to be the center capitalism.

 I guess I can just take the message and not worry about where it came from.

Are conservatives stopping an economic catastrophe by stopping spending or causing it by refusing to follow through on our obligations? They say they are trying to stop our economy from collapsing, but it just might be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Something needs to be done obviously, but you can't just decimate entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare then double military spending.

Sorry to tell you this, but the economy has already collapse and will not be getting any better. Right now the only thing they're doing is trying to revive the dead horse known as the american via fed printing...

I'm just not up for those Gerald Celente/Peter Schiff style end of the world conspiracies. They've been waiting for the other shoe to drop for the last 5 years. In the mean time a lot of money was left on the table while their followers were investing in gold and silver. Just a bunch of junk.

If our Government collapses silver and gold isn't going to help me. It would just make me a target.

This quite true hence why China is progressively abandoning it while america continue to embrace it full-on.
socialism aint communism

...and why the f*** not? Thomas Jefferson was a profiteering slave driver, weed head and an adulterator and yet his words on government still ring true today.
