How is that government shutdown treating ya?

Just signed up for ACA. Wished I could vote from the comfort of my home :)

Good on you man, good on you. I hope it works out for you and it proves to be a hit like it seems to be in other countries that have a government supported healthcare system.

I felt sad reading a post from someone a couple of pages back who bought the republican bag of goods that it's the dems who are responsible for the shutdown. People just don't pay attention, I guess. So let's get it all out in the open here again so we all know what the truth is:

The Affordable Care Act, or ACA or Obamacare, has nothing to do with the shutdown that has occurred over the budget impasse. The ACA is already funded, is already a law, has already survived a Supreme Court challenge. The correct way to fight this law would be to campaign against it, win a majority of voting power, and repeal it. To shut down the government over this law does nothing to actually stop the law or its implementation, but it hurts innocent people. It is purely an extremist right-wing gambit that ties this to the budget and it's Ted Cruz's baby (well, actually he wants to tie the debt ceiling to defunding ACA but they decided to try a shutdown on the way to the debt cliff).

This scorched earth tactic was first discussed almost as soon as the ACA was originally passed three years ago. We got a whiff of it with the sequester which was really a republican teaser on what the public will allow them to get away with. We've had an election come and go since then with no appreciable change in the makeup of the Congress and of course no change in the White House. The people who don't like this law are very loud and squeaky about it, but for everyone of you who whine about being compelled to contribute to the greater good, there are two people like amigaengine who are going to sign up for this and have been looking forward to something like this for a long time. The silent majority is out there, you just have to open your eyes and take your hands off your ears (and stop yelling please) and you'll find them.

Feeling good. Foreign aid isn't going to any countries that don't need it, Israel and Pakistan in particular.

Since the New Deal, Republicans have been on the wrong side of every issue of concern to ordinary Americans; Social Security, the war in Vietnam, equal rights, civil liberties, church- state separation, consumer issues, public education, reproductive freedom, national health care, labor issues, gun policy, campaign-finance reform, the environment and tax fairness.
No political party could remain so consistently wrong by accident. The only rational conclusion is that, despite their cynical "family values" propaganda, the Republican Party is a criminal conspiracy to betray the interests of the American people in favor of plutocratic and corporate interests, and absolutist religious groups.

Templars.

I heard the best comeback yesterday to people who are trying to pin blame on the Democrats for this:
What the Republicans are doing is like if the Congress sent a clean continuing funding resolution to the President, and Obama refused to sign it and closed down the government until Congress agreed to pass gun control legislation.

So appearently months upon months is too much time of Congress to do one simple thing. Gotta love paying taxes. Watch Congress not do a damn thing until their own paychecks are finally put on the line by this government shutdown.

Business as usual. Don't miss whatever it is I'm supposed to be missing a bit.

I thought this was funny/clever:

my business is slowing down. not sure that has anything to do with the shutdown. i will tell ya though, many of my "friends" on FB are going off!

National parks are closed. People getting tickets left and right for driving on closed roads.

I understand Republicans want to defund Obamacare. That will never happen. But why are they so afraid of Obamacare? The obvious answer to me is that their deep-pocketed constituents will lose money somehow...but how and how much?

My friend's healthcare went up 118%, higher deductible too. She was pretty shocked and went on an angry rant against Democrat voters on her Facebook. Not the only case I've heard so far too.

Nevertheless, Republicans aren't really helping themselves. However, I was actually suprised at the amount of voters who similarly blame Democrats for the situation, saying Obama should negotiate, according to a recent poll. Even Newt Gingrich wrote an article expressing his surprise.

The f***

The government is closing these parks, but somehow we can still pay officers to roam around ticketing people.
These police are state and city cops. No federal cops involved I don't think.

I would advise your friend to sign up for ACA. No reason what so ever for her insurance to go up other than the company gouging.

ACA...we need the young people to sign up....the same people that can stay on their parents insurance until they are 25.

So once again the US threatens to pull other countries back into recession...Good going :smash:
