I don't think Undead Labs is in any danger. They're actually a huge studio and the word is that State of Decay 3 is moving up to AAA.
I definitely get the backlash for closing these studios, but not for focusing more on AAA games. Isn't that what people have been clamoring for?
Sea of Thieves took years to straighten things out. I think they've shown they are willing to be patient with live service games. They could eventually pull the plug, but they'll let it play out.I think that depends on what kind of game SOD3 ends up being. If its a multiplayer type game like Sea of thieves with Single player components, it has to catch fire, or they could be gone too imo.
If SOD3 becomes anything it will be an MMO. That is their grand vision for the game.I think that depends on what kind of game SOD3 ends up being. If its a multiplayer type game like Sea of thieves with Single player components, it has to catch fire, or they could be gone too imo.
They bought Compulsion individually though. They didn't buy Bethesda for Tango, Arkane, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse - they were just packaged in. Bethesda typically operates separate from MS, so I assume this is to put more funding into Elder Scrolls and to jumpstart a new Fallout game.MS bought some of these studios for the exact opposite of that. You don't buy Compulsion Games and expect AAA.
Are they next for the chop because they made a game that suits the studio?
Well, I am going all in on PlayStation now. Seals the deal.
They did that in part - they mentioned that some people are being moved over. Then close/merge the studios but keep the staff and get them working on those projects.

I don't agree with the shutdowns. It sucks.Move them all. Don't appear to be big teams.
Indie funding isnt really drying up, they’re just being more selective as to which titles get featured vs getting funded by GP or the alternative id@xboxAligns with the other report about the GP funding for indie games drying up.
Thanks for the random nobody tweet Dried....I mean Wolf.
Except that Embracer is closing because they relied on funding backed by a handshake. MS is closing because of studios being directly unprofitable. But he's right.
Think most of the axing in the last year is from those 2.
Playstation just laid off 900 employees. But he's right.

But how do they judge profits when relying so much on Game Pass.Except that Embracer is closing because they relied on funding backed by a handshake. MS is closing because of studios being directly unprofitable.
I'm sure they have other metrics - maybe not traditional levels of profitability but probably tied to monthly users at launch and over time. But how do they judge profits when relying so much on Game Pass.

They implied it exceeded their expectations, but they also wouldn't have shadow dropped it if their expectations weren't extremely low to start.Hifi rush hit all those metrics according to Xbox.
Ninja Theory is probably dead studio walking at this point
Emotions? Why is it that an email exists stating the reason for this and is posted and yet this thread turned it to a Twitter-esque dumpster fire.
Come on people. Seriously.
