I think that depends on what kind of game SOD3 ends up being. If its a multiplayer type game like Sea of thieves with Single player components, it has to catch fire, or they could be gone too imo.
MS bought some of these studios for the exact opposite of that. You don't buy Compulsion Games and expect AAA.
Are they next for the chop because they made a game that suits the studio?
Sea of Thieves took years to straighten things out. I think they've shown they are willing to be patient with live service games. They could eventually pull the plug, but they'll let it play out.
If SOD3 becomes anything it will be an MMO. That is their grand vision for the game.
They bought Compulsion individually though. They didn't buy Bethesda for Tango, Arkane, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse - they were just packaged in. Bethesda typically operates separate from MS, so I assume this is to put more funding into Elder Scrolls and to jumpstart a new Fallout game.
Then close/merge the studios but keep the staff and get them working on those projects.

I actually would've liked to have seen Arkane - Austin rejoin Arkane - Lyon.
Indie funding isnt really drying up, they’re just being more selective as to which titles get featured vs getting funded by GP or the alternative id@xbox

I for one am finding the expressed opinions of these individuals affected informative.
Except that Embracer is closing because they relied on funding backed by a handshake. MS is closing because of studios being directly unprofitable.
Playstation just laid off 900 employees.
Also, the reason for it is vastly different.
But how do they judge profits when relying so much on Game Pass.

I'm sure they have other metrics - maybe not traditional levels of profitability but probably tied to monthly users at launch and over time.

They implied it exceeded their expectations, but they also wouldn't have shadow dropped it if their expectations weren't extremely low to start.

Wasn't sustainability a bit thing a couple years back when Zenimax was acquired ? If smaller studios are not , big titles will need to sell crap loads to make up for being on Gamepass because it seems just having good numbers isn't good enough apparently.
