Official Thread Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Holy crap, where did this come from/? Publisher did a great job keeping a lid on this one which is really difficult with leaks or promos so far out before release. I love getting a surprise game announcement like this especially for one that looks so good. I've had the first one for a long time after getting it for really cheap but I never gave it a chance. Its doubtful I'll get to it anytime soon with all the games I still want to play. But after watching that Siege preview this game is now on my radar in a big way.

I was just thinking I need to try to get through the first one now too. It does have a 4K mode on Pro. ;)

It's not very often a trailer to a sequel to a game I've never played before convinces me to buy the original. But it just happened. Can't wait to play it.

So, that means you have the PS4 version. I have the first on X1 which means no 4K mode for me.

I made the mistake of buying the X1 version because it was $15 cheaper at tbe time and I was trying to show the Xbox some love.

That's rough. I suppose what you don't know won't hurt you! But man, those 1080p pixels are nice. Makes a difference.

I was playing on a 720p plasma at the time, so the resolution wasn't really important between the 2 consoles until getting a 4K TV and a Pro where those older games are getting updated and stuff.

Goddamn Shadow of Mordor is a good game. One of the best games I've played.

Just in case anyone forgot what was so amazing about the first game....

So awesome! :D

Here is a sweet, sweet vid of one of the raid side quests. Crappy res, unfortunately :(

I love how the guy is the presenter, and he's never seen a lot of the stuff before because it's never the same!

This game can't come out soon enough.

I can't believe so many people at GAF are calling the fighting system in this (and Arkham) garbage... Ok, maybe I do believe it, lol, it's GAF. I can't think of a system that involved fighting scores of opponents that I liked better. Certainly not while incorporating Stealth and all the other elements these games include. I definitely think Mordor is more enjoyable than the game it draws inspiration from, though.

I remember my first time taking on 50 orcs in Shadow of Mordor- intense and frantic! Then they start taunting you! I was called "Runaway Ranger" for a while, lol!

This game is going to be badass. You heard it here first. Unless you've played Shadow of Mordor, then you already know.

I reinstalled the game and tried the Nemesis Forge. Well worth it cause the nemesis they had going into the new game would be a beast and my best ally was.... inadequate.

Monolith Confirms Shadow of War Requires Internet Connection, Explains Why The Market Exists

Yesterday, Monolith Productions revealed the Market system for microtransactions in Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

Understandably, the community had a lot of questions and Community Manager MonolithJared answered plenty of them on the official forums.

Perhaps the most controversial one is that Middle-earth: Shadow of War requires an Internet connection for the time being, which is probably not going to sit well with some fans. Considering that the game doesn’t feature any true multiplayer features per se, this was likely done to prevent hackers from boosting their own premium currency in the game without actually paying anything.

MonolithJared then tried to explain that the point of the Market system is to provide a faster alternative in building Talion’s army for those who don’t want to spend a lot of time in the game doing that activity. Also, he pointed out that Shadow of War has been balanced without the Market in mind.

Gold exists for users who want to speed up their army building process. There are people who appreciate having the option. We don’t want to restrict any players from playing our game. So we have the option for those that want a speedy option, and for those that choose to avoid it can do so without any negative impact on their game.

The game is balanced so you can play the game without using the Market.
As you play the game you’ll have excess Mirian, this gives you an option to use that excess Mirian if you like. Or you can let that Mirian build up as high as you want.

Getting and Orc from a warchest is the same as dominating one in the game. So if you want a legendary orc in the game, you can go find one or you can go through the market. It’s there as an option for players. Feel free to play as you decide!

Epic and Rare weapons drop with relative frequency, and DON’T need an epic orc to drop. Though as you level up, your common weapons will become more powerful and you’ll switch to your higher level commons.

Legendary ORCS are more rare. However, the number of legendary orcs you meet increases as you play through the game.

The drop rate of common/epic/legendary orcs has nothing to do with the market. We balanced SoW first, so the drop rates there is set for what our designers and research has shown to be the most interesting.

So if you just do the normal game, the game will be balanced for that.

What do you think of Monolith’s decision to enforce always-online DRM? Let us know below. As a reminder, Shadow of War launches October 10th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

I didn't like the first game and had a slight interest in this one...hell no. Stuff like this is idiot.

Why need to have a connection to play a single player game? It's not about having a connection or not, it just seems kind of crappy to require it because they included loot. Injustice 2 is another WB games title and it has loot etc and you can buy coins but you don't have to be connected unless you want to buy those things.

Also this is totally different and a bit nitpicky but I'm really disappointed with the rain in this game lol, it's still not a great looking game overall but it has improved over the last one. I just wish they'd add some realistic looking rain effects or just not have them, slow motion sparse white toothpicks falling from the sky looks awful.
