Mortal Kombat X

Developer NetherRealm has revealed Quan Chi as he latest character added to the Mortal Kombat X roster.

Quan Chi, a sorcerer, uses spells to create standard fireballs and another projectile that lures players in. His powers can also be used to summon beasts, but perhaps the most inventive application of his repertoire is using portals to punch people from distance.

The character first appeared as a boss on the N64 game Mythologies: Sub-Zero, and was first introduced as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 4.

In the video above, the project's executive producer Shaun Himmerick offers an outline of Quan Chi's powers.

Mortal Kombat X's release date is now marked for April 14, 2015, following a delay to the project. It will ship on Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Along with series incumbents Scorpion and Sub-Zero, a host of new characters have been announced for the game, such as D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn. Familiar faces, such as Raiden and Kano, are also returning to the series.

Off screen footage of Raiden's second (or replacement) X-ray move and Cassie Cage's very painful to watch (look closely) X-ray move.

NRS had a twitch stream today and someone downloaded the footage and uploaded it on youtube

Kung Lao Returns & Online Factions Revealed

The blade hat wielding Shaolin monk Kung Lao will be a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat X, Developer NetherRealm has revealed.

The news comes via the cover story of Games Master magazine in the UK and Pelaaja in Finland. Like all characters in Mortal Kombat X, Kung Lao will have three unique combat style variations which give him access to different moves best suited for different play styles. Buzz Saw is best for an aggressive style and projectile attacks, Tempest is best for a defensive style and maintaining control of the stage, and Hat Trick lets Kung Lao toss his hat, make it hover in place, and call it back at any time.

NetherRealm also revealed the new Factions mode, which will let each player choose one out of five factions to join when fighting online. Each faction is affiliated with different characters in the game, and winning matches and other challenges will contribute "war points" to your faction.

Along with series incumbents Scorpion and Sub-Zero, a host of other new characters have been announced for the game, such as Quan Chi, D'Vorah, Ferra/Torr, Cassie Cage and Kotal Kahn. Familiar faces, such as Raiden and Kano, are also returning to the series. Former boss Goro will be a playable character for those who pre-order.

Custom Mortal Kombat X Controller Revealed

Update: Following the custom Mortal Kombat controller reveal, GameSpot's editors dropped by the booth to check it out and get some more details about its release.
  • Currently, there are plans for two versions of the controller: one for PlayStation and one for Xbox. The PlayStation version will work with both PS3 and PS4 while the Xbox version will work with both Xbox 360 and Xbox One
  • The price isn't finalized, but expect it to fall somewhere between $35 and $50
The original story appears below.

Gaming accessories company PDP has revealed a brand-new controller designed specifically for NetherRealm's upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat X, which launches in just a few months.

Pictured above and in the video below is the Xbox Oneversion of the gamepad, though PDP is also making one for PlayStation 4. Pricing was not announced.

Tong writes: "The D-Pad side is longer than the button side and it's designed to allow you to either hit the buttons with your thumb, or tap them out like an arcade stick designed with the help of 'OneHandedTerror.'"

If pricing is $35 then I might get one, if they price it closer to $50, nah. They could have put a bit more effort in to the graphics too.

Absolutely hate that scorpion outfit. It makes him look so average and not this menacing hell spawn he's supposed to be. Thankfully we always get alternative outfits (Hopefully a good one)

Nothing beats the classic look.

They said they were trying to tone down the costumes a bit this time around because they think they've gotten to be a bit too much over the last few installments.

And I agree. Haven't really digged the outfits since the klassics.

Can't get any cleaner than dat

Does God of War Ascension on the PS3 look as good/better than this game? That's probably crazy but damn, what a graphical downgrade.

Also, I know there are people that like this genre but holy crap it hasn't changed in any real meaningful way in the past 15 years.

Still hope they are getting rid of the now over used story system of fight as someone 3 times then play as someone else.

Well,Reptile looks better than his MK4 and MK: DA incarnations. But you can't beat the classic look.

I hope Netherealm will not charge you for the classic skin (I'm looking at you Capcom!).

So you'd rather have a Skorpion pallet swap than an original look to characters? Nostalgia FTW, I guess.

They'll be revealing a new character in a few minutes on their twitch channel along with more gameplay.

Edit: Stream is now over.

Ermac was confirmed during the stream, they also showed Kung Lao and Ermac gameplay and we saw a fatality from each of those characters. Kitana and Reptile weren't shown but will be next stream, they also showed off two new arenas.

That sucked till the actual fight right at the end. I understand what they are doing but watching people learn a character is boring.

I was glad to see the new arenas and Kung Lao/Ermac gameplay but I think they could have done a better job for sure.
