Nintendo Direct Thread

Yeah I'm sure all the casuals who havent bought a Wii U were looking forward to another lame E3 conference. I just want to see the games, doubt a press conference is going to help Nintendo and tbe Wii U.
I just know that the big conferences generate buzz. The people who don't own a WiiU already are more than likely not going to be watching Nintendos own thing but they will at least hear about or read about the conferences.

It sucks, but I don't know if an E3 presence helps them that much either. In past years when Nintendo was declared "the winner" of E3, or even just when they made a big splash, it didn't always translate to sales.

There's no point in coming to the conference when you have nothing to show off. Hell, even if they did have something to show, it would just be a prettier, slightly tweaked version of something we've seen on their consoles thousands of times before.

same could be said of MS/Sony. The only difference being Nintendo will offer different play mechanics besides run, cover, shoot, cinema.

All kinds of wrong in this statement. First of all, MS/Sony care enough to actually show up at E3. MS/Sony do try to do new things with software, not just hardware, and they aren't stuck and stagnant in the online arena either. When you get down to it, no Nintendo doesn't offer different play mechanics. All first party offerings from them might as well be reskin releases of the previous titles and that's just gameplay. There is next to no innovation or extension of story within their games, just rehashed over and over again. They have their touch, and for a couple of generations now their software library has been awful because of it.

Wasnt Mario Galaxy the most critically acclamied game last gen, Mario 3D World was rated highly as well and won a few GOTY awards. Yeah you are def in the minority of people who thinks their software is awful lol. Doubt you even played any of it.

Dude, I grew up on Nintendo software. I've had every one of their consoles except the WiiU. So you can shove your judgmental BS and stop talking out of your rear. Don't get me wrong, there is a special place in my heart for Zelda, Metroid, and Mario. However, Nintendo is a far cry from their NES and SNES days of legend. The problem is that, as your example so dutifully illustrates, ALL we get from them are those games (mainly Mario). When you combine it with the fact that it takes them FOREVER to actually release them, then they don't get a free pass from me anymore. I had to suffer through the long droughts of nothing to play on Gamecube and Wii. Never again. Why the hell does it take them so long to release their stuff anyways; it remains largely unchanged.

Of course their games are critically acclaimed. They're too well respected and put on a pedestal by most in the industry. They're given a free pass most of the time. Hell they could probably crap in a box and ship it to critical acclaim. Is it too much to ask for something new, something with a great story and it's gameplay mechanics don't stop at run and jump?

Yup we know MS/Sony will be bringing it.
Nintendo hasn't been a factor in almost a decade.. them not being at E3 AGAIN shows how outa touch they are with gaming here's to hoping this changes soon

Exactly. I really do hope for change in Nintendo; I'm just over giving them a free pass anymore.

Brilliant!
Reggie Fils-Aime"YEah, I'll just go home!".

Was I the only one expecting a badly choreographed fight with cheap special effects :D.

Nintendo as usual out of touch with gamers smh.
Erm Gaming and Gamers != NeoGaf. Since gaming is a term for tabletop gaming, something that has been around for centuries. That "Electronic Gaming" also became a part of that doesn't allow "NeoGaf Gamers" to hijack the term. Seriously and they wonder why so many people find a negative connotation to the term "gamers" these days.

If they don't have a show and will announce cool games, what do I care? Another over the top "Event" with some rockbands and loads of flashy lights? Sure sounds fun, but I just as well would like to see good trailers and announcements of new games. Rather than big honchos on stage acting like they are Paris Hilton.

Plus the E3 "WE cheer for everything" crowd annoys me. But hey the youtube video of "Shu!" as Neogaf calls him, about sharing a game was sooo much better than this wasn't it.

Out of touch fans as well and some wonder why the Wii U was dead in less then a year.

WoW... even played DKC:TF with a friend on the couch lately? OH wait Online "arena" so Competitive or bust? Seriously I enjoy Nintendo games and their quircky nature a lot more than yet ANOTHER First Person/Third Person gritty shooter.

OUt of touch as I may be, I enjoy the Wii and the Wii U a lot more than the 360. That console really disappointed me in the second 2/3's of it's lifespan when it became a "COD BOX". Where Nintendo brought me Zelda the Skyward Sword: Bringing Impressionistic paintings to life, Sony and Nintendo where more concerned in taking games so serious that "every game had to be an art form, a shooter or a sports game". Seriously where was the Microsoft of the first Xbox? Where is Midtown Madness 3? Where is Crimson Skies High Road to Revenge? Voodoo Vince?

And don't say "XBLA" as really I like full blown games like that, Nintendo just needs to start advertising correctly and they are sitting on a gold mine. Almost everybody remembers Nintendo, so cut down the price (it is now too close in price to a PS4) with a good 100 Euros. Get it closer to that Impulse buy thing and start setting up demostations with SmashBross, Mario Kart, Super Mario 3d World, Wonderful 101. BUt right now Price is their biggest enemy, they are too far away from the "Family bought impulse buy". A PS4's price can be higher as gamers and fratboys have more spending income for these things than families.

EDIT: Sorry I mend Skyward Sword, I just have been playing the WindWaker HD recently, and LOVE the art style as well :).

Wow, you missed on a slew of great games if you completely dissed XBLA. Not saying you're free to have your own opinion, but there's a s*** load of quality content on there. It's not like these games are priced at $60 or anything like that either. Not to mention calling the 360 a Codbox which I presume is essentially calling it a shooter console is a bit of a over sight. Maybe it's my fault for playing such a variety, but there's plenty of content on the 360 besides CoD and shooters in general.

Don't bother. Butt hurt and ignorance tend to go hand in hand. Dude doesn't know what he's talking about. Its better to leave people that make such blatantly stupid statements to their own devices.

I'm not butthurt, just straightforward and honest. I never said their games were horrible either, just that they're no longer innovative. Also, they're predictable. Oh yeah, they're also spread very thin across the life of each console. I never said they're horrible though.

2 games 32gig console going on sale in may pretty sure. $330

Looks like the old saying is true. Nintendo beats to sound of their own drum. I guess they just don't care. Everyone knows what the Wii U is all about. Those first party games. If people haven't figured it out by now they never will.

Yeah, but that is a temporary bundle. What I mean is the normal bundles getting a €/$ 100 price cut. So that parents will see it more as an impulse buy. Right now they are just too close to the price of a PS4, there is now way of denying that. They also need to advertise the console and make it very sure that the Wii U is a separate console that can replace your current Wii. That is quite the conundrum actually, as many a parent will just answer:"But don't I already have a Wii?" when you ask them about the Wii U. They also need to start advertising their games better like Donkey Kong. My father was a huge fan of the original Arcade game, he would remember the name. In fact when I was over at my parents house a week ago, and played it coop with my sister, my Father started to recognize logos.

Now he can't play, he is paralysed on one side because of a stroke earlier in life, but he still found the game quite entertaining. Especially when my Sister yelled "Look out COW!" in Norwegian during the Tornado level (the one that comes flying towards you and smashes part of the platform away), he was in stitches :). But it shows that they can even appeal to gamers a lot older than what they currently aim at, without actually losing touch with other gamers. the 45+ crowd can be just as fanatic about getting high scores (I mean look at how fanatic they became about PacMan) as a 15 year old. The trick is, trying to reach a group that doesn't watch as much TV as the younger crowd and also make it "affordable".

But I must admit the Mario Kart bundle is a step in the right direction, but it seems that the code download is also there for people that bought the game before the 8th of July. Feels a bit like an Ambassador program again.. and I like it! :D

Run, jump, power up, no cinema.
So you are saying Nintendo is about the games while MS and Sony are about:
Cinema, Cinema, Cinema?

Well I suppose it is a step up from:
TV, TV, TV ;).

(Joking don't kill me :)).

I am not saying there weren't any games on XBLA, I enjoyed quite a few of them. But I do feel that MS really let me down on the exclusives that weren't shooters or racers. I mean just look at the original Xbox it was downright original with the kind of games they published or made available for it. The beginning of the 360's life as well, was.... great... but the latter 2/3's was just not that interesting for me. I for instance enjoyed Viva Pinata and Banjo Kazooie: N&B, but was lambasted for liking it. I do not like Gears of War that much, nor do I like Halo that much. I found the first Halo entertaining, but that is about it. I missed the quirky Rareware games a lot, and Fable just can't scratch that itch as well as say Kameo or Grabbed by the Ghoulies... in which even the title was innuendo :).

So I did not "dis" it I just think that some fans fence with XBLA to silence the people that wish for a more creative offering on Microsoft's plastic wonderbox.

Wow, that went completely over your head huh?

I do believe I understood what yo mend, that not only Nintendo is out of touch, but also their "fans". I just do not agree with you, and I do not agree that:
  • Embracing cheap free to play MOBA games
  • Graphics over content
  • Being a jerk on the "webbyweb" to everybody else who disagrees with you
  • Having achievements to show of epeen

Or that you need to make everything competitive to become successful.

No interest in any further conversation with you.
I am quite sure that nothing of value was lost.
