Everything that Microsoft announces is vivisected and roasted over a slow fire, whereas everything Sony announces is swallowed whole without a grain of salt. Oh yeah, same criteria.
The kinect hate, & the MS hate have been overblown. Its just fanboys that try to justify why MS isn't doing as good as the competition, in my opinion.Kinect hate isn't really about tinfoil hat fears, it's about people feeling they are being charged $100 extra for a piece of equipment that they don't want and doesn't appeal to them.
The inventory that's claimed to be unsold have an immense amount of variables with the biggest one being consoles could be sold to retailers but they haven't reached the retailers yet. I'd a retailer places an order on the 27th they're not getting it that month and those retailer sales cannot be transferred to customer sales. All of this is a numbers game that means very little when both consoles are doing record breakingly well.I remember back in teh days.
but I think you mistaken intent. People are not trying to knock MS down, just the clear up that there is in fact a clear difference in figures between shipped & sold. When figure reached over 20 million or so, then the difference between sold to retailer & customers are close (by ratio), since there is only so much inventory space a store can hold.
But at the moment, with single digit million sales, the 0,9 million or so inventory space do make a difference. Beside whats the point of comparison when you do not use the same criteria for both sides.
Just saying.
And they would be incorrect. The reason it's $100 more is because Microsoft wants to make a bigger profit. But there's the perception that it is an I can agree with that.
"the strategy will continue which is that we're looking to be break even or low margin at worst on [Xbox One]," he explained, "and then make money selling additional games, the Xbox Live service and other capabilities on top.
Sony announced 7 million sold to customers, probably inflated a little. Did anyone contest this, quite a few actually, including some that say Sony is lying.Everything that Microsoft announces is vivisected and roasted over a slow fire, whereas everything Sony announces is swallowed whole without a grain of salt. The main reason for people not wanting Kinect is it cause X1 to cost more, & there is little contents for it. Would you want to pay 500 bucks for a Navigator with only map of your hometown? Now if the navigator have a wider coverage + some cool features, then people an warm up to it.
I know some people said they used it to Skype or like the voice command, so why not make it optional. People who love the kinect can continue to use it. This seems a reasonable request.
If MS wanted to justify Kinect in every box, then thy have to have much more content than currently, in my opinion.

MS announced 5 million sold to retailers, probably inflated a little. Who is contesting this, no one here as far as I know.
So say, explain again, what have Sony announced that is swallow whole, & MS with grain of salt. Can you quote anyone?
No one, despite what some people said, no one here is dismissing the sales of both consoles. But since you mention, numbers games don't matter, then whats the point of comparison thread. You are the boss, you can killed it.The inventory that's claimed to be unsold have an immense amount of variables with the biggest one being consoles could be sold to retailers but they haven't reached the retailers yet. Its an estimation, just like MS number is an estimation, both probably inflated. So both should be taken with a pinch of salt, but they cancel each other out. Unless of course, someone claim that Sony vastly inflated theirs, & MS deflated their data. You just did, how do you know they sold exactly 7 million to customers? Do they have 7 million receipts posted somewhere?
Just saying.
There's still reason to discuss it. Just because I said it's really meaningless doesn't mean it can't, or shouldn't, be discussed. It's meaningless to every single person on these forums because nobody here owns stock in either one of the companies except for probably a half a handful of people. I own Apple stock so I have a reason for them to do well. I don't own Microsoft or Sony stock so how many consoles each sells has nada to do with me. Come to think of it, I may have some Microsoft stock in a mutual fund. GO MICROSOFT!No one, despite what some people said, no one here is dismissing the sales of both consoles. But since you mention, numbers games don't matter, then whats the point of comparison thread. You are the boss, you can killed it.
But if we wanted to do a proper estimation & comparison , the we need to put emotion aside & lay out whats available, & then calculate a reasonable estimation.
But like I said, its your call. If you think its meaningless, then kill it with the magic lock.
Its all for fun sake, (until some people get personally that is). The same reason why people talk about movies, after seeing them. Its also meaningless if you think about it. I do not talk about acting or script of a movie, but I can understand people who do.There's still reason to discuss it. I think 360 have supply issues. But good info nevertheless. I think everyone agrees X1 does fanastic.Let's reflect on the phenomenal success of the 360 from all the sales gathered from Microsoft's earnings reports. Does anyone know why MS has a different financial year calender to everyone else?
360 had a slow start, the Xbox One is crushing it.
It's a lot easier to know exactly how many units manufactured and shipped, than it is to know how many units are sold through, yet Sony never provides the number of units shipped which they would know exactly. Its an estimation, just like MS number is an estimation, both probably inflated. So both should be taken with a pinch of salt, but they cancel each other out. Unless of course, someone claim that Sony vastly inflated theirs, & MS deflated their data.
I don't know. Do you have a copy of everyone elses?Let's reflect on the phenomenal success of the 360 from all the sales gathered from Microsoft's earnings reports. Does anyone know why MS has a different financial year calender to everyone else?

Whats the point of having a discussion when people cannot even acknowledge differences between sold through to customers vs sold to retailers? These are very clear & distinct definitions.
I don't know. Do you have a copy of everyone elses?
Charted on a graph, that's a nosedive. Here's the Wii, nothing else has come close to it at its peak...
Look at that drop off, though!
Here's the Wii
Look at that drop off!
See what I mean, Plainview?
Who cares what numbers Microsoft uses? For 100,00,000 units Sony was using the same speak last gen. It was never a big deal then and it shouldn't be now. It's still the cool thing to hate on every Microsoft move. It's how it is when a company does well. People do it to Apple now. It seems as if people were just eager to find anything Microsoft did so they can lulz at them. Microsoft handed it to them on a silver with DRM and always on and a bunch of PR blunders.
At this point there's really nothing negative that can be said towards Microsoft. They dropped DRM. They removed always on. They made Kinect usage optional because of some faux tinfoil hat fears. They've done nothing but try to re-connect with the 'gamer' that people claim, I believe claim incorrectly, they didn't care about.
Microsoft has a hill to climb with the Xbox One and they're trying to climb that hill. No matter how many gifs are posted that they're behind Sony in console sales won't change the fact they've had an amazing launch and continue to do so.
I had ZERO problems with the DRM. It benefitted me greatly. It wasn't nonsense for me in the least. Kinect is of little consequence to me since I use it extensively. You totally missed the point. Can you find a single person in here that cares that Microsoft is using sold in numbers? No one cares. What people are finding bothersome is some people are comparing that to sold through to consumer numbers as if they are the same thing. As Anderson said, it's intellectually dishonest. Heck I'll go as far as to say it's just plain dishonest.
It's funny that we keep posting about this but instead of agreeing with us and supporting an intellectually honest conversation, you just go on to cheer Microsoft and go off on a tangent as if we are hating on Microsoft. It just goes to show that posting here is a team sport apparently.
There are plenty of negative things at this point you can say towards them, but what's the use, you won't listen. No matter how many of us prior 360 fans say we don't want Kinect AT ALL, and we don't like paying more money for weaker hardware, it falls on deaf ears for some of you guys. At least Microsoft appears to be listening with the recent price drops. It's just a matter of time before they remove Kinect from the box.
BTW I remember the Xbox one reveal well. There were so many complaints from Xbox fans and so many were in dismay with the whole TV/Kinect focus, and you were right there cheering them on with the whole DRM nonsense and mandatory Kinect nonsense.
I had ZERO problems with the DRM. It benefitted me greatly. It wasn't nonsense for me in the least. Kinect is of little consequence to me since I use it extensively.
So the negatives you can think of, and are clinging to are Kinect and it's priced more? Still? It's no different than having to pay hundreds more for Bluray. You either do it or you don't. The price eventually drops. It's a non-issue. The system will eventually reach everyone's price point just how every other system has in the past. So you're mad, and others are, because Microsoft's price of the Xbox One isn't what you want it to be?
Yes, I totally went off on a tangent. If you consider that a tangent.
The hating on Microsoft has to do with people posting gifs, pics, etc. towards Microsoft because they didn't eclipse Sony's sales not the hating on the numbers.
Why shouldn't I, or anybody else, cheer Microsoft for breaking their sales record in the same what people are cheering Sony for breaking their records? So let's not cheer Microsoft for their record sales but praise Sony for their sales? That's what we should be doing?
I know what Microsoft's sales are. They're less than five million. I don't care about the exact number. Just like I don't care that Sony's are around seven million. They're both doing fantastic. That benefits console gaming across the board.
I'm not sure why anybody is disagreeing with the 4-4.5 million sold to CONSUMERS. This should be common sense. I'm not sure why you even had to ask me to say this. I thought it was understood when I said "under five million"?I would just love for you, as the site owner and main moderator, to just once say that the people comparing the sold in numbers to the sold through numbers directly are being dishonest. Call them out. I mean it is flat out dishonest so what's the point of debating with people that do that and keeping the thread open. That's all I think most of us are saying the past couple pages. Can you do that?
This thread happened again? Look, let's face the facts here. The Xbox One is a successful console. People wanted it to fail after the reveal and it didn't. The PS4 is selling better. So what? That doesn't mean it's the end all be all console people make it out to be.
The Xbox One has better games. Check out the reviews. It's not like we're spreading misinformation. Titanfall didn't push as many Xbox One consoles as we thought it would. It's not the end of the world. Microsoft is taking the gloves of this gen. This is just the start.
