Official Comic Book Thread

On and off, I've been reading this. Bought it on a whim and I'm having fun with it. Funny, smart, and the illustrations are pretty cool. Recommended for sure.

Picked up the first few editions of the NOW Guardians of the Galaxy line last night. Read the Star-Lord intro 0.1 issue.

Looks like I'll be adding another to my ever-growing pull-list that I can't find the time for haha..

At Marvel.com, couple of digital comic books are free for today! Check it out.

Geoff Johns and Kick-Ass Co-Creator John Romita, Jr. To Take Over Superman

“Yeah, there’s a good chance I’ll do some work for DC. There’s a better-than-good chance now,” Romita told ComicBook.com back in August. “It really just came up because we couldn’t agree on a contract with Marvel. And there wasn’t any kind of nastiness or anything like that, just a disagreement here or there. DC is anxious to do something and I actually had a story idea they really liked that applies to Superman.”

He could've stayed with Marvel! But oh well, that is a cool news. I love his drawing style. :)

I haven't read a few of those!

How many books are on your pull? I've got a bit over 30 at the moment. It's manageable.

As for Guardians, I've been digging it. But you'll need to read All-New X-men as well for the current "Trial of Jean Grey" crossover.

30?! You're lucky dude! The bills are killing my wallet and it's quite difficult to keep up with the titles that are $3.99. At the moment, I only pull one title (Wolverine). :( I am still undecided what 2nd title to pull. I've thought about Sonic the Hedge (the one with over 200 issues!) I wanted to collect 'em all one day because I love Sonic.

My pull: Avengers A.I., Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Nova, Superior Spider-Man (personal favourite), Superior Spider-Man Team-Up, Thor: God of Thunder, Uncanny Avengers, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine & the X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy (likely) and of course, Deadpool.

I'll have to get back into All-New X-Men then. I did start it after Battle of the Atom, but haven't caught up for a while.

Between juggling gaming and comics, I'm finding it hard enough keeping up with my current comics haul haha..

Seems like you're a fan of Marvel, right, Deadpool? :) What about DC? Superman or Batman?

Yeah, grew up with Marvel.

Haven't really touched on DC stuff. Superman has never really interested me, but I did delve into Batman a little when I was younger. Nothing recently though.

Speaking of Wolvie & The X-Men, are you gonna stick with it after the reboot? Aaron isn't writing it anymore, but I've heard Jason Latour has a similar sense of humor to Aaron, so I may give it a few issues. I'm definitely buying the Wolverine & The X-men omnibus that's coming out in June, though.

Are you a DC guy Smurf? I've dabbled now and again, but there isn't usually much outside of the Vertigo stuff that gets me interested. The proper DC Universe books aren't my thing for the most part. I read Batman/Girl/Woman for a while, but eventually dropped those. I do like Wonder Woman (been with it since #1), and Red Lanterns has been pretty great since Soule took over writing duties from the atrocious Peter Milligan. Overall, I've been more of a Marvel guy, though. But recently, holy crap, a good portion of my pull-list has been taken over by Image. They've been knocking it out of the park lately. They're getting great new books put out by well known creators. And it's great for the creators since they get to retain the rights to everything they release with Image.

New Ms. Marvel series starts this week! New She-Hulk series starts next week! Yessssssssss!

Yup, I'll definitely give it a try anyway. I'm always a bit on the fence with Wolvey losing his healing factor twists, but I'll see how it goes.

Pretty keen for those too.

The art in Ms. Marvel is gorgeous. Based on the preview, it looks like it's going to be a really fun book. And She-Hulk, OMG. Charles Soule has been doing really well with Red Lanterns, so I have complete faith in him for She-Hulk. Plus, they're releasing Slott's She-Hulk run as a series of complete collection TPBs. The first of those releases next week as well.

Ms Marvel's art looks incredible. I've seen the previews as well. No doubt adding that to my list haha..

Currently reading:

Batman
Superman
All-New X-Men
Guardians of the Galaxy
Nova
Invincible

Clone
Ten Grand

Thinking about picking up the trades for the new TMNT and if it's good I may replace something for that. More than likely Ten Grand, although it's possible that is just a limited series anyways so I may just finish getting the individuals.

TMNT is awesome. The 7th trade comes out next week. You can pretty much skip the micro-series trades, as those are just collections of character-specific one-shots. Not imperative reading. The Secret History of the Foot Clan, though, is non-essential, but very good nonetheless.

Picked up my comics yesterday, but haven't read any of the new ones yet. Too busy playing Outlast last night.

Did manage to read one issue of Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday while I was waiting around. Damn, I'm really liking this book.

Freezasaurus, I, too, am a Marvel fan. I especially love The X-Men and The Avengers. You all already know that Wolverine is my #1 favorite superhero! ;) Admittedly, it's difficult for me to get use to DC's world. Honestly, Batman and Superman are pretty much the only ones I like to read. The rest of others were kinda... meh to me. They don't "grow" in me but I do enjoy watching all of DC's Animated movies!

Batman is my favorite comic book character, but X-Men is right behind him.

I've been catching up on All-New X-Men the last few nights, in preparation for the GotG "Trial of Jean Grey" story line.

On #18 now, so almost there with All-New X-Men. I've really enjoyed this series too.

Free digital comic books at Marvel.com:

House of M: Avengers #1 (of 5)
New Avengers #1
Morbius: The Living Vampire #1

I have to admit that I'm starting to like digital comic books even more than physical copy of comic books. It saves a lot of space and time (I won't have to worry about driving to comic book store right after I get off work on every Wednesday). I probably will go 100% digital, eventually.

If you've got a tablet you can't go wrong with digital really. Though I wish Marvel would improve their Marvel Unlimited app on Android, it's not great.

Picked up Fantomex MAX 1-4 at the shop yesterday.

It's the first time I've had a go at the "adult content" Marvel stuff. Gotta say, it was pretty cool. Always liked Fantomex as a character since X-Force, so it was nice to see him a little more fleshed out here. The additional violence/gore is pretty full-on and they have no issue dropping the F- and C- bombs, which is.. well.. different from a comic book standpoint, but it has the advantage of feeling much more mature as opposed to the @%*# censorship stuff you get in the NOW line.

They had an issue of Wolverine NOW in there too, so I might give that a go next.

Agree, still needs a bit of work. I try to use it as much as possible though as Digital is soooo much better for my usage.

It's strange how they handled their Android (and maybe iOS?) apps. They have two of them for some reason. Their normal app is fine but their Marvel Unlimited map is pretty poor in comparison. If the comics in the Unlimited app filled the screen it would be fine but for whatever reason they don't
