Must be something graphically demanding on xsx that ps5 is stripped of, doesn't make sense otherwise.
The game would be developed by different teams so there is bound to be differences in how they handle things.

There has been talk about the PS5 having a better cache set up but that's all beyond anything I know so I have no clue if it's true.
I think it's likely MS' api updates are later or not complete. That's what I'm picking up. But who knows? S9ny at least has demons souls to show of some next gen features. The Geometry is really something to behold.

Anyone else feel like this gen came too early?
Nope. It's just the typical launch day woes. I remember the dreamcast getting torn to shreds for not being enough if a jump.

The mid gen refreshes kinda muddy the waters too. We all said that when they released.

Regardless, I'm loving the series X and look forward to the future. Gotta keep it in perspective. Consoles will NEVER rival PCs because peice is a reality.

If people are wary then wait for the refresh. We are in OC card territory now as far as how upgrades go.

As usual I agree with Froz.

DF says they've talked to devs who say Sony has better tools and I don't know that it's so much MS being behind as it is their toolset just not being specialized because they have two console and PC to think about. I also think the PS5 is probably just a more efficiently designed system all around, it's probably easier to actually get most of the10.3 TF out of it than it is for devs to get most of the 12.1 out of the series x, probably fewer bottlenecks. That being said it's only one game and it's a cross-gen 3rd party game but it is one of the better looking 3rd party games at launch and the fact that they got it running at a pretty consistent 60fps on both consoles should be applauded.

I still believe as time goes on these machines are going to be so close the theoretical power difference isn't really going to show up much, it'll be up to the 1st party devs to make these machines really shine. I don't think anyone is really going to care if one hits a slightly higher res than the other, especially since native 4K doesn't seem to be the goal so far on either platform and that's totally fine with me.

All I know is 12 > 8 and this AC game defies the natural order of mathematics.
Some are judging the entire gen 9 already on one 3rd party game running on a s***ty engine from the fail that Ubisoft can be. Yet Gears 5 is being praised as one of the best looking games ever with the new optimizations. And that’s not even a native SX game. Then I think someone here said they thought Gears Tactics looked even better.

Imagine the upcoming Flight Simulator 😱

As my dev friend told me, tools are more important to him than the hardware when it comes to performance. Microsoft's tools still are not great right now. Almost none of the RDNA2 features are being utilized by any dev. The Series X is acting as a 12 Tflop GCN machine with disproportioned low memory and raw tools currently without devs being familiar with how to leverage RDNA2 and Velocity architecture. The Series X is a very balanced and efficient machine when all the features can be used. Right now what you're seeing is the Xbox 360/PS3 situation-lite. It shouldn't take as long to resolve however since the issue is tools and not hardware (as was the PS3's case). Be a little patient....or don't.

Sony deservers massive kudos for hitting the ground running and delivering the only next gen experience day 1. They have a mature tool set that devs are plenty familiar with and like. They were planning for this launch back when Microsoft was considering pulling the plug on Xbox. Devs don't need to learn anything new to take advantage of the I/O.

Microsoft gambled on waiting for extra features and changing dev tools that may encourage more devs to choose PC/Xbox as a lead platform long term. It's a gamble hurt by covid delays. Long term, there's still more upside to this strategy. Still super excited about what the Series X and Microsoft's 1st party devs could create this gen. Still expect it to be the best Xbox gen. First 6 months they'll going to struggle to meet expectations and control narrative.

Odd considering that MS is the worlds largest software company. And have had PC under their belt for over 40 years.

How much difference do people think a 1.8TF difference is even going to make? I know I've said it before but between the Pro and One X there was nothing the Pro did better and all we got on the One X was higher res and sometimes better texture filtering because of the additional memory. That 1.8TF was a significant number when the competing console was only 4.2 to begin with, now you have a 10.3 vs 12.1 so that additional "power" is a much lower percentage, there is also no memory advantage because they both have the same amount and xbox series X is going to end up being more complicated to use because the memory isn't all the same speed.

The PS5 has faster clocks in the GPU which will negate some of that TF advantage as well and there are other choices they've made that will also help. MS didn't wait for anything special, they announced their console last year, they showed us the box last year, they already knew what their goals were they weren't holding back for special RDNA 2 features, the stuff that they have that Sony doesn't is almost all DX12 related stuff and Sony doesn't use that.

Yeah Miles has crashed my PS5. I restarted and went back in the game and now it is having serious frame rate issues in the game. It’s slowed to a crawl and he goes in slow motion like it’s using up too many resources. Gonna rebuild the database again.
Apparently one of the mods are bringing it down to like 2fps. Disable the mod and it is fixed. I have not tried it yet but it has worked for others.

I don't believe TF difference matters a ton with where we're at with diminishing returns. Even a 12 to 8TF difference wouldn't be that discernable to the average gamer for most multiplats. Microsoft waited longer to finalize the hardware and I believe a big reason for it was the extra hardware accelerated ML capabilities. Some devs at Resetera claimed that these features were more targeted for enterprise solutions since these APUs would be multipurpose in the cloud. I think it's going to have an impact on game development this gen. We'll have to wait and see. From a hardware standpoint, advancements that happen due to ML is what interests me most.

Their PC side is what's complicating it. They've significantly changed the dev environment. The intention is to make it easier to make games across PC and Xbox. Also waited longer to finalize the GPU. GDK is late.

I don't think anyone here claimed anything about winning a gen.

The reality of the situation is that the results are definitely surprising though with how much exaggeration Xbox fans have repeating ad nauseam re: the theoretical power difference. Will be interesting going forward , I expect the XSX to win some multiplatform comparisons as well.

I think we all can agree that the XSX is a fine piece of a machine but maybe just maybe the PS is also a very well designed console as shown by some of its launch exclusives Spiderman and Demon's Souls.

when you start seeing games that will run 120hz on Xbox and not PlayStation can start to show off.
I could be wrong but we won't see it on its full metal till next year or so.

These launch titles are very small that it is exclusive and not back gen compatible.

People just have short memories. There are always some issues, the launch lineups usually aren't that good, and the differences are always overhyped PR.

You take that back, the Kinect Sports v. Knack faceoff was everything.
