So no next-gen xsx examples eh
That would require actual nect gen games.

Technically they're still cross generational games. Even Spider-Man.

Load times may get better or worse over time, depending on the game. I personally and not bothered by a few extra seconds here or there.
Spider-Man isn't next-gen either

I guess Sony’s only real example of next gen tech, definitely when looking at loading times, would be Astros Playroom, since it’s an open world game, sorta... Demon Souls is a linear world set up in stages.

Nice to know the XSX can help last gen games with their loading times.

Any next gen examples? Because that's what I thought we were talking about.

Either way, I was comparing Spiderman and Watch Dogs Legion seeing as they are both open world next gen games so seeing one at 18 seconds vs another at 2-3 seconds was what I was talking about when comparing load times.

Demon Souls is 2 gens old. Miles Morales is last gen.

Spider-Man Miles Morales available on gen 8 and gen 9, optimized for gen 9....

COUNTS

Forza Horizon 4 available on gen 8 and gen 9, optimized for gen 9....

DOESN’T COUNT

Because tribalism

i coulda swore you, someone or I had posted about both consoles having issues with receivers, my brother and brother-in-law have been having issues with his ps5. My bro with his Sony sound bar and my brother-in-law with his headset >,<

the sound is just fine on mine just hooked up to the 900h, and or my headset.

Is it true one should swap out headway ever so often so you don’t grow accustom to them?

Okay I get that.

Maybe I should re word it to newly released games rather than next gen to avoid the confusion.

Nice twist.

One important difference, you forget Spiderman Miles Morales released at Gen 9 launch and was fully developed to take advantage of the new PS5 hardware as evidenced by RT, quick load times.

FH4 was released 2 years ago. On the Series consoles, there are areas that were upgraded but also other areas that were downgraded for compromise.

There's the difference.

Anyways, my original point was that seeing how both Spiderman Miles Morales and Watch Dogs Legion are both open world action third person games and seeing how Miles have 2-3 seconds load times vs Legion's 18 seconds on the PS5... I stated how one can see that Ubisoft may not be taking full advantage of the SSD and I/O. Which I don't expect them to, as they have limited resources and have multiple platforms to develop for.

Doesn’t Ubisoft have like 30-plus studios in 20 countries, with some more than 10 thousand employees?

most of the studios are support teams for the main ones in Northern America and Europe...I think China too. They kinda work like how Rockstar had help from rockstar north and their other studios, which they will continue said relationship for gta6

The engineers at MS already said they build at the top and port down. They start with PC/Series X. That will continue for the rest of the generation.
Yes this is correct. In fact my dev friend said all devs actually start higher. They have 8K assets, higher quality textures, better lighting and in some cases better physics than what you'll see on either console. The business of gaming now accounts for mid gen refreshes, new graphics cards and the fact that games maintain mindshare longer due to all around forward compatibility. Engines scale to account for this. The only thing low end units can hold back is game design however GPUs generally don't impact that.

Machine Learning is a cool concept. Just wondering how practical it would look like in games. Remember when MS was parading around the "power of the Cloud computing" early last gen too? What did we end up really getting in games?
I do remember and power of the cloud is still a thing. Problem with power of the cloud as we knew it is they lost their devloper to Epic and cut funding all together. It's very much a thing. Microsoft is investing a large amount of money into it. Power of the cloud works in many things outside of gaming. It's how I can run really demanding calculations on big data with the job I have. It's why a lot of business use Azure. It will be used in games. Starting with things less latency sensitive.

ML is also already a thing. It's new to gaming. It already has entry level successes on PC. It will have a huge impact on the game industry. Its already incorporated into dev tools. There isn't just one thing. Upscaling is only one use. All ML models are iterative. Less perfect at first but with more training of models and time, the use will be many both in terms of game design and the way it helps with efficiency.

What they're doing with backwards compat enhancements is already a using a form of ML.

Call me Skeptical Katy, but the only game I know build for next-gen & port down works ever is Rise of Tomb Raider, but they have an entire studio, for that.
Unless the studios dedicate a huge resource for the studio size team for down-port, I highly doubt we get true down-port next-gen games.

To make higher detail 3D assets & port-down required a massive amount of work unless they have some crazy tool or workflow. There is no magic one-button command like 2D image where you can pick the resolution the image will scale accordingly for 3D. This is even more so for characters where you need to animate.
Okay from what is known. PS5>XSX. Seems simple enough.

the "better tools" sound like DirectX 12 all over again. Call me Skeptically Stacy, but I am well skeptical.

Well, which one is it?

Nobody seems to remember the new Flight Simulator from Microsoft uses the cloud. And it’s the best looking next gen game.

Flight Simulator was built from the top down, as are the other first party games by MS. Clearly FS wasn’t held back by the Xbox One. The game is 😮

Sadly FH4 optimized for Series X/S was outsourced to a company outside of Turn 10/Playground Games. It wasn’t compromise. It was time. They told us ahead of the release this fall that it would be missing some enhancements.

Like I said there's the difference. One was fully developed with the new hardware in mind, the other was merely upgraded. As you pointed out, there wasn't enough time to fully enhance the old game because the game doesn't take full advantage of the new architecture in Xsx.

Then we will say Miles was fully developed with the PS4 in mind.

We will have to agree to disagree.

Unless you meant the PS5 then yeah we will have to agree to disagree there.

Read this if you haven't already.

"head-to-head comparisons between generations are eye-opening to say the least."

But you keep spinning. Miles was designed for the PS4, and was optimized for PS5.

It most definitely was designed with PS4 in mind Insomniac won't fool me with that spin.
But they put a great PS5 paint on it 😉

The original 2018 game might have been but I believe Insomniac got their hands on the PS5 specs and started designing Miles Morales with the new hardware in mind.

It wouldn't run on old hardware if that's the case.
It looks just like the 2018 game with added special effects.
As good as it looks it could be better if not for the PS4.
