I just found out that KotOR was 480p and now it sucks.
It's fine as long as performance holds up. Framerate is king.
I just found out that KotOR was 480p and now it sucks.
OhYou think you do...
Holy s***e that's some elaborate fanboy apologies lolThe 1080p-ish is by the DF analyst's count only (he even says in the video). He had reached out to Housemarque and they said Returnal uses temporal AA to reconstruct a 1440p picture which then uses checkerboard to output 4k picture. Of course you guys are just going to see the 1080p and then run away with it
Reminds me of that time when the Epic UE 5 Tech demo came out running on the PS5 and looked amazing to everyone then Epic came out and said it was "only" dynamic 1440p with TAA upsampling to 4k (surprise similar to Returnal) and then everyone quickly forgot about how great it looked and instead focused on the numbers.
I've always said I am expecting games to run at dynamic 1440p/60fps this generation because of limitations on hardware. Hell, even PC is having problems with 4K/60 and they have a monstrous amount of power to work with. Anyone expecting any more will just be sorely disappointed. My advice, just be happy with dynamic 1440p/60.
The Medium is running as low as 756p on the Xbox Series X at 30fps or less, you guys have no problem with that, so what's so funny about Returnal running at much better resolutions and performance?
In the end, who cares what techniques they used, the results are stunning nonetheless and Returnal looks as next-gen as anything out right now.
Inside Unreal Engine 5: how Epic delivers its generational leap
Epic's reveal of Unreal Engine 5 running in real-time on PlayStation 5 delivered one of the seismic news events of the …www.eurogamer.net
"When the overall presentation looks this good, this detailed, with solid temporal stability (ie, no flicker or shimmer frame to frame), resolution becomes less important - the continuation of a trend we've seen since the arrival of the mid-generation console refreshes. As we said almost two years ago now, next-gen shouldn't be about 'true 4K', the game has moved on and put it frankly - GPU resources are better spent elsewhere."
That's not a reason for a refund, the colors look great in the game, the things that are supposed to light up do so very nicely.Oh
Anyway I am reading Returnal doesn't have HDR?
I haven't started to find out.
But if it doesn't..it's refund worthy.
It's reason enough for me.That's not a reason for a refund, the colors look great in the game, the things that are supposed to light up do so very nicely.
I understand you, I don't play many games that doesn't support hdr on my main TV...I do play lots of games on my 1080p non hdr projector though... So I guess I'm a hypocrite lolIt's reason enough for me.
Unfortunately I don't think I can.

It goes both ways. Not really. The UE tech demo analogy is relevant and similar here.
Noone batted an eye to what the game's resolution ran at because the game's final picture looked fine. Once DF started talking about internal resolutions, the Xbox fans came out of hiding. Not a coincidence.
It goes both ways.
For what it's worth, between the 2 games in question, I'd probably pick Returnal as it seems more fun. Nothing really against The Medium cause it has its moments, there just seem like something was missing from it.Okay, just saying. Focus on how the final picture looks and how the game performs like. Forget the numbers.
It's reason enough for me.
Unfortunately I don't think I can.
Maybe a chef?Stop it, we all know your not a cook
I knocked off a few games this month finally. Finished Horizon ZD and Halo 4 Remastered. Great games. I still have Control(On hold), Valhalla(Working on it), Cyberpunk 2077(Working on it), and now Resident Evil 8 is coming out, so that's going to be a work in progress for me too. So much to play right now.I'm in this weird space with the new consoles and PC.
The only games I have on my PS5 is Astrobot and Last of Us 2.
On my Series X I'm pushing through AC: Vahalla, MLB the show and whatever shows up on game-pass.
On PC I'm juggling more games than I ever have between steam sales, Stardew Valley, Cold Steel 4 and PC game-pass.
My point being I don't ever remember in my gaming history having soooo much to play at once. I still haven't gotten to Miles Morales, Yakuza like a dragon, Hitman 3 or Godfall yet as I can't justify the purchases with my backlog. I feel like if I could just get through TLOU2 and Vahalla, my schedule would open up but both those games are so freaking long.

If the developer didn't want HDR because it impacted the art in a way that they didn't want it to that's plenty of reason. It's not like they are lazy or it's extremely difficult to add HDR but some devs may not want to use it.HDR is pretty big for me too.
I can't go back to SDR. No reason that a modern video game can't ship with HDR support.
RDR2 isn't real hdr, it's a sloppy, tacked on faux hdr that they probably implemented close to release. That whole mindset seems silly and not all HDR is created equal, RDR2 has HDR and it makes the game look worse, if you turn it off the game looks much better.
Oh I know it's fake HDR but they did that just to say they have HDR, the game actually looks worse with it turned on. Returnal isn't going to win best graphics but it does look really good for what is basically a AA game made by around 80 people. The lighting is one of the best things visually in the game so even if it doesn't have a buzzword attached to it (ray tracing is used to a degree in the lighting btw) what you see with your eyes looks like something in HDR.RDR2 isn't real hdr, it's a sloppy, tacked on faux hdr that they probably implemented close to release.
Yes, it looks washed out with it turned on.Oh I know it's fake HDR but they did that just to say they have HDR, the game actually looks worse with it turned on. Does RE8 still use outdated checkpoint save?
But, you can play as your mom, your aunt, or your mother-in-law look-alike in Returnal, but not medium. Know the differences!Yes, it looks washed out with it turned on.
Returnal looks fine, but just as the Medium, it's not the showcase some people wants it to be.
VGTech RE demo analysis
PS5 in both modes and Xbox Series X in both modes render at a resolution of 3840x2160 using what appears to be a form of checkerboard rendering. Xbox Series S in both modes renders at a resolution of 2560x1440 using what appears to be a form of checkerboard rendering.
Both PS5 and XSX have great performance, XSS not so much.

Is this demo out for PC yet?
NVM: Downloading now on Steam.
I've read that it's not very hard on the PC hardware. Someone with a 4th generation i7 and 1080ti could get 144hz pretty consistently with no RT.
