I'm just going to say that the backwards compatibility and enhancements on the XsX is absolutely a huge point in MS favor. The fact that you can play Xbox games all the way back to OG Xbox AND with numerous graphical enhancements cannot be understated.
As I said in another thread the inclusion of that option is a positive rather than the exclusion of that option.

Just remember you can't play all xbox/360 games (you probably know that already) although I'm sure most of the ones you'd want to play are BC already. Also not every game gets as big of an improvement as the others, it's cool that they are doing this for the hardcore people who kept their old games. Personally I was a huge xbox fan all through the first console and half way through the 360 gen and I bought a ton of games, of course it was all physical not digital for the most part so the only ones I have left are on my HDD and it's like 3-4 games. Those older games are still expensive too, I think Kameo is still like $30 and it didn't even get the 4K upgrade lol.

I sold my 360 with about 50 Xbox and 360 games going into this generation. I just wish that I would have known about BC beforehand. Doh!

Backwards compatibility is one of those things that some people don't even care about, and others, like me, find it absolutely empowering, as a consumer! Wanting to keep your games to play from previous generations is not hardcore at all, IMO. Collecting consoles is, though... I just want my games to work, and I'm not into Collecting old hardware. I live in a condo, for one thing. The fact that the Xbox team is making the games that are backward compatible immortal via upgrades is very unexpected from them. I'd say that they have nothing to gain, but they can still sell these games, and also offer them on GamePass. Seems like a win/win to me. The enhancements are really just kinda something we didn't think was even possible, going into the current generation. There are plenty of games I will just keep playing, and they will look better...again.

PS fans will downplay the BC importance. Xbox fans will play their library of BC and new gen games. It’s really that simple.

f*** this. I wish it were the holidays right now so I would have both of these bad boys.

I can’t believe that’s true. If MS can get the developers onboard the so can SONY. If it is true , then that is absolutely disgraceful on SONY’s part. No two ways about it.
I would put money on it that there will be smart delivery on PS5 though because there’s no way it can be justified not to.

It may not be true, but Sony and Nintendo have always taken the cross-buy approach. It’s worked for them, so I don’t see why this gen would be any different...?

To be fair, hasn’t that been the same for all consoles? I know I had to buy GTAV twice on Xbox One. I just can’t see this being true. There is no justification for that apart from greed. I doubt SONY would be so blatant to pull that one.

Yes, until the XSX. I think that’s the first system to offer free upgrades..? The Pro does it too.

But in terms of an entirely new gen, I don’t think it’s been done before. All 3 big companies are taking different approaches, and if Sony doesn’t do something along Smart Delivery lines, that would make them look greedy (and/or lazy) by comparison.

Hopefully we’ll find out on Thurs.

Yeah if some devs/publishers don't want to do it then that is there call but we know some do like CD Project Red so the door needs to be open to them and Sony should do it themselves as well.

NOT THIS s*** AGAIN! They've already talked about Zen 2 and RDNA2, it's in the f'ng console lol. Not mad at you for posting it but damn these a******s on twitter just keep trying to spread lies.

I feel like both Xbox Series and Playstation 5 are using hybrids of RDNA 2 and some of their own stuff. That's why there's likely contention out there. It's possible that they could have some but not all of the features while also using things that won't show until RDNA 3.

DirectML and DLSS are the true game changers for next gen imo.

Could be. Only reason I haven't gotten more excited about it is that whenever there's something this significant to development, it takes a couple generations until it's being used regularly and it's accessible by most devs. Procedural generation was talked about very similarly in 2005 when the 360 was launching. What we saw in No Man's Sky was hyped back then yet it took almost a decade to realize that. Now it's part of mainstream game engines. Could be the same thing with DLSS. We might see inconsistent attempts at it in the short term. That said if they can deliver results with little drawback this gen, it's being grossly under-rated right now.

Problem is if that is true, I expect 3rd parties to charge Xbox owners as well most of the time. We already know EA isn't doing Smart Delivery or free upgrades outside of temporary exceptions. 2K probably isn't supporting it due to the crazy amount of money they make from their remasters. Sony wouldn't make this decision without support. Remasters are a huge revenue stream for the publicly traded publishers so it was always a long shot that they would buy in. Outside of Xbox 1st party, I'm now expecting the majority of the support for Smart Delivery to be from Indies.

Announced for launch so far:

  • Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
  • Call of the Sea
  • Chorus
  • Dirt 5
  • Scarlet Nexus
  • Second Extinction
  • The Ascent
  • Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2
  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon
In addition to these games, Microsoft has previously confirmed that every first-party Xbox Game Studios release will also use Smart Delivery. This will start with Halo Infinite at Xbox Series X launch.

Will we see special edition Xbox’s (sorry I forgot the plural) for halo infinite?

Good list. I expect Indies to buy in. Will be interesting to see perception without 2K or EA support though. Want to see them cave but I only think that happens with Sony support.

Ubisoft is pretty huge.
