The indie thing is funny, halfway through the 360's lifecycle when MS went all in on kinect and basically abandoned any new AAA first party IP I was told by a few here that the focus was on indie style games/xbox arcade and that was what mattered then the PS4 comes along and indies are blown up on the PlayStation platform for the early years and now it's back to MS/Xbox being the indie darling.

I generally don't care for indie games, I don't buy a new console to play games that look like NES games in HD/UHD. Sure there are a couple coming that have a unique style, The Last Night looked pretty special until it sat in development hell for years and now we have two or three other indie games announced that look just like it and will be releasing first. It's just like politics, most people switch their argument when one side is leading in a certain way, personally I couldn't care less about who is more popular with indie devs/gamers, for every indie game that looks like Kena or The Ascent there are 30 that are pixel art and show virtually no creativity other than a person figuring out how to make a group of blocks loosely resemble a person.
I generally don't care for them either, but they are getting better and the number of good ones seem to be increasing. One of my most anticipated games this year is an indie, Trek to Yomi.

They said it exceeded it initially at launch. Then it just went downhill from there.
Because once again it was poorly tested. The game was woefully unbalanced. Had terrible networking issues. No post launch content. Some terrible bugs.

Essentially it was another unfinished game that needed 6 months to fix.

For me when it comes to those games I don’t care about how it looks, what draws me in on Indies I’ve enjoyed is the gameplay, if it keeps me coming back, and fun factor.

Plus for me with a family, full time job, and working weekends a lot it’s tough to find the time to tackle all the bigger AAA games I’m interested in. Smaller games have become more appealing in recent years.

I have every mainstream console since NES (except GameCube and N64 bc lol those consoles) connected to TV/projector right now, I love playing every one of them for nostalgic value and also some still hold up.... But, why the f*** do the young indie devs keep making those simpleton graphics in 2022 is beyond me. And the pretentious reviewers giving them perfect 10s (ie Celeste), ffs gtfo

You mean those "pixel art" games?

A) They are easy to make

B) See A

Did they give it a 10 just because of its art style?

No, they gave it because it was the thing to do at that point in time when social media heroes took on their shoulders to fight for mental health and according to IGN etc the game was a masterpiece of story telling in that regard. I've seen and experienced both the game and mental health issues and that game is as genuine in that regard as Disneys will to fight for minority representation in the world (see China).

And also for the reason of pixel s*** graphics being the thing.

So had very little to do with art style then.

What was your point again?

I love a good high end looking 2D side scroller like the upcoming Trek to Yomi so being indie alone doesn't mean a game is going to be bad, death's door was pretty good too but pixel art stuff just turns me off right away. I am old enough to have played games that looked like that because that's all we had lol. It was nice when things moved beyond pixel art and I wish more indie devs would move on but I know it's also harder to do that and they likely don't have the knowledge or talent to make a game that's more high end looking so they stick with the easiest thing they can do.

Its funny, cause as much as he bangs on about RT shadows you simply don't notice it when playing. Your focus is always elsewhere.

He also says XSS is being left behind because of no RT shadows, but Watchdogs does RT on XSS , as do other games like Metro Exodus, Hellblade, etc Clearly devs are simply choosing not to support it on these old games.

Same as he bangs on about pristine 4K and how 1440P is only acceptable but yet 8 time out of 10 he will recommend the mode that isn't 4K. lol.

The launch was bloody terrible we pretty much only made it through because we were in lockdown but the amount of disconnects and fustrating character and progress bugs ruined an otherwise good time.

Yeah. I had bug that deleted all your characters gear. So demoralising.

Interesting how a senior analyst says not many publishers would do this because of the economics associated with Gamepass 🤔

Well it's just hard to gauge who's making money and what, chances are they probably sold most of the copies they were going to anyway, plus a game with no DLC will have no extra money coming in, something that probably hurt outriders.

I'll wait for never lol the game just looks goofy to me.
It's a nice looking game, but the game play looks boring. The fact that it's sand box design is being compared to Farcry's doesn't help. I'm sick of the whole checkpoint capture concept that is in every Ubisoft game.

I am fairly sure Square Enix. nor other dev/pubs does not put their games on gamepass for charity.
