Iknow I did. Is there any reason to say otherwise? Nope.

And you think that means what from 343 exactly? It is really simple, if the XSx has no exclusives the game is the same across all SKUs...Just like it is now with X1X,X1S, and X1. Expect anything more and you will be massively disappointed.
Well with that attitude, that means we will never have anything impressive on either console. We didn't this past gen.

No it doesn't. What it means is very simple. Xbox exclusives are limited until they start doing XSX exclusives. This isn't complicated.

Here is where things get murkier though, while Microsoft's reveal was excruciatingly clear, succinct and allowed third-party testers like Digital Foundry to get closeups out, I found the Sony Playstation 5 reveal to be somewhat lacking in clarity and almost, deliberately vague. My primary pain point was when the Sony PS5 was advertised to ship with 10.3 TFLOPs and then the words "variable clock rate" were uttered in the same breath. This, as many of you have guessed is misleading

Damn you aren't buying one either? Damn Sony is losing all their loyal fans.

Hyped for both consoles. They’re both super powerful and at the top end of my expectations for next gen. Getting a lot of bang for your bucks, even if they’re 500-600$.

I agree. While I'm not getting either at launch, I'm super excited for both.

UPDATE: A quick update on backward compatibility – With all of the amazing games in PS4’s catalog, we’ve devoted significant efforts to enable our fans to play their favorites on PS5. We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.

We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions. We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers.

In his presentation, Mark Cerny provided a snapshot into the Top 100 most-played PS4 titles, demonstrating how well our backward compatibility efforts are going. We have already tested hundreds of titles and are preparing to test thousands more as we move toward launch. We will provide updates on backward compatibility, along with much more PS5 news, in the months ahead. Stay tuned!

So what does this update statement provide? I'm not seeing anything different being said than what Cerny already said.

Need adjustment from the original developmers?! That'll go over like a fart in church.

It doesn't really provide a date when these titles will be available.

Wait. It doesn't provide a date at all. Guess its in the cards though. So that's good news I suppose.

Yeah they need to be more clear, I keep reading people are interpreting this as basically PS4 games will work but they are trying to see if they can get them all to work with a PS5 boost mode but I'm not 100% sure on that either.

Yeah, I don't know how involved that would end up being but I would guess most devs won't have a whole lot of time for something like that. If it's just a few simple adjustments that's one thing but if it's an involved process I doubt many would take the time, especially if it's simply a "boost mode" thing.

Good news if most of those 4000 games are BC with the PS5. I know that all 4000 X1 games will be BC. It's a win win!

is this at launch or down the road?

Anything coming around launch, especially AAA level have likely been developed for 90% of its development time, and more importantly it's scope that these SSDs can benefit will have been done using old tech anyways. That is likely MSs argument for making sure those games get the last gen port.

I doubt you'll see anything within the first year or two that absolutely couldn't be done on an HDD. If Sony still continues to release PC ports I bet you'll see this reflected by their minimum specs for the first year or so.

After that all bets are off.

Agreed. They've got to clear up their message.

Definitively on launch day, will the PS5 be full backwards compatible with all PS4 games? Period. If not what will be compatible.

That is a possibilty.

This is reminding me of the PS3. The SSD in the PS5 is awesome, just like the Cell was. But it would seem only first parties will most likely be taking full advantage of it...?

Not at all, the CPU and GPU are very powerful and not hard to use, it has as much memory as the XSX and it's all one speed vs being split and the SSD can be taken advantage of by all studios it's just likely that first party studios will get the most benefit out of it but that's always the case with consoles. PS3 was very hard to develop for the PS5 is not it's just a different approach than MS took and it seems like a number of developers are very happy with iit.

Watched Brad's take on both consoles. Video provided below. He also believes the SSD is something you'll see in Sony 1st party games but 3rd party will go with baseline for storage. Time stamp 6:51

Based on what people who make games are saying I don't think you understand what the actual benefits of the SSD are.

There's a point where the speed is pointless, though. You're not streaming in whole new game worlds every second of gameplay. It's going to be massively better than hdd, of course, but the difference between what you see from XSX and PS5 in that area will be next to impossible to tell. Where the full power of the 5gbs will shine is in load times, because any SSD can stream in assets well enough to power the game worlds. Most of the things the SSD will do isn't going to be bursty flat out transfers, though, and random read/write performance may be dramatically different, though with the upgrade to SSD it still will be more than good enough.

Don't get me wrong, though. I love me some nvme 4.0 - been rocking two of them with my Zen 2 and 5700xt and it's choice. I just never saw anything ever that made me think my SSD needs to be twice as fast as it is now.

I get what you are saying but being that you are playing on PC you also aren't playing a game that was built to take full advantage of what an SSD can provide. We'll see though, I highly doubt Sony would spend that much time and effort on a feature if they didn't feel it offered a huge benefit, I think the issue is most of us just don't see the whole picture yet.
