I think it would be a great service to offer as is without their new games included, it doesn't seem sustainable to build their entire business model around it IMO. I'd keep new AAA games off of the service for a year or something like that. I'd keep it as a place for indies and older games that have sold all they are probably going to sell. There is nothing wrong with having a secondary service like that to offer to people who are casuals and don't want to buy every big game that comes out but whenever they do finally start releasing AAA games on a semi regular basis I'm pretty sure most of them are going to be built around some form of backend monetization, the more studios they buy the more expensive the division becomes and that means more money needs to come in, GP sub fees won't be anywhere near enough especially if they keep missing their targets. It just needs more balance and consistency. I think it can be done, but just not from XGS output alone.
I'm not knocking Gamepass. Even with 2 thirds being Indies 10-15 bucks for 400 games is still a great deal. I just think MS is at a point now where it needs to re-evaluate the content they put up and find more quality over quantity.
As far as quality over quantity that's been my main issue with the service the entire time, I keep hearing how great of a deal it is but when you can't find anything that you want to play that you haven't already played before is it really a deal? It looks like a great value on the face of it but I look through that catalog every week or two and I can't find anything that I want to play that I haven't already owned at some point. I realize I buy more games than the average person but still I don't think it's as great of a value for everyone as some think.
