PS4 Hits 6 Million, Ushers in New Era of Social Gameplay

As you’ve probably read by now, cumulative PS4 sales have now surpassed six million units worldwide following the successful launch in Japan just over a week ago. It’s truly humbling to see the rate at which gamers across the globe are choosing PS4 as their next gen console of choice. Even more exciting is what happens when gamers power up their PS4s. In the United States, more than 90% of PS4s are online, enabling gamers to connect, compete and share their greatness with friends and fellow gamers.

There have now been more than 3.6 million live broadcasts, and more than 56 million spectate sessions on PS4 through Twitch and Ustream. In fact, since January 1st, PS4 gamers account for 20% of daily broadcasters on Twitch. PS4 owners are also embracing the Share button on the DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller, with more than 100 million shares captured as fans show friends their latest achievements on Facebook and Twitter.

And soon, you’ll be able to share your greatness in new ways. Developers are beginning to take advantage of PS4’s new interactive live broadcasting gaming features, integrating modes that allow broadcasted gameplay to become interactive for spectators. Even as a viewer, you can now influence livestreamed gameplay.

For example, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition features a built-in Broadcast+ mode where you can stream your gameplay while viewers on the PS4 or a web browser influence positive and negative effects during gameplay. More social feedback is on the way too, with Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition in March and Daylight in April.

We love the enthusiasm that all of you have had for the PS4 since launch, and we can’t wait to share more great games, experiences and features with you soon. Greatness awaits!

Is funny how quick Sony are to release numbers now. Last-gen they were so coy about it.

Any way...amazing numbers. 6 million sold in less than 4 months :surprise:

This just in! Reaction about stunning sales figures: First Sony...

Meanwhile...the reaction from Microsoft seems somewhat lost. A mixture of inner turmoil and depression...

...while Nintendo sits idly by drinking the profits of the Wii's original success and looking on with wild ambiguity..

No doubt hearts will be broken...and dreams will be crushed! More @ 11 with the stunning turn of events! Stay tuned for butthurt!
Congrats Sony! Congrats indeed.

Whats so funny, obviously when you are doing well, you wanted to let people, gamers, investors, & partners (publisher) know, each group for various reasons. When you are not doing well, you wanted to keep mum, until you are obligate to announced sales figure.

Its a common practice, & MS & Ninento were doing the same before, & Sony, in the PS2 era.

Those are some amazing numbers. We are all witnessing the fastest selling console in history. Now can it go the long haul and beat PS2?

Impressive numbers. Especially considering how little there is currently to play on it. Particularly as a muli-console owner (PC, X1, PS4)

So, it would be safe to assume xbox one is where? I guess a lot of you don't like to assume, but it has to be less than 4.5 million at this point?

Too bad sony doesnt have any games from feb. or shipments to really push that...

Let's try to keep X1 and sales comparisons out of this thread, please. If someone wants to talk "versus" and sales comparisons, just create a thread for that in the MP forum.

Migrated posts from the Xbox One thread since people can't seem to stay on topic.....

Hey, no dumping allowed.

I removed a set of those posts, since they were mostly arguing about hypothetical sales numbers prior to this announcement. Now we have real numbers we can argue about.

But sales & market share comes hand in hand like Power/torque, IOS & Android, Tea & coffee. But ok, otherwise it will turn into we know what, & thread will be locked again.

Nah, I'll just move it to the MP forum and let the console warriors run amok. It's okay with me either way, but maybe we can stay on track a little while, before the inevitable...

Sony projected 5 million by March. I heard once (Gamespot, I believe) that they were referring to the end of March (rather than March 1). Anyone know for sure? I'm just wondering how far ahead of projections they are.

Inevitable is, people mostly only want to know the sales to compare I guess. There isn't a lot of reasons people actually care about the sales than to compare maybe. It is good just to know but if you aren't comparing maybe isn't a lot to talk about. They are lacking games, but its obviously great they have sold 6 million in this amount of time but it doesn't seem like the games are moving at all....

Yeah, that's definitely part of why people want to know, I understand -- "who is winning and by how much?" But that gets into the "versus" territory that we try to confine to the MP forum. Pardon my pedantic explanation, but you're new around here  , so I'm trying to explain the difference between how this forum runs and the old TXB ran. Basically, the "versus" stuff belongs in the MP forum. We try to keep the X1, PS, and now Nintendo subforums free of that, more or less (there's some leeway, of course).

I'll only bring this point up once, but that is why its good to have all game discussion on one board IMO, easier to navigate us probably my biggest want with that though.

To be honest, there aren't many games. However, KZ very well. I believe it was the most sold exclusive between Xb1 and PS4. Ghost sold very well with a ton playing on PS4. BF4 sold extremely well with more PS4 players than on other consoles.

Claiming the games aren't moving is pure nonsense. To say that PS4 games aren't moving, would mean to admit that Xb1 games aren't moving either. On Amazon alone, there are more PS4 games on the top 100 best sellers list than XB1 games.

Awaiting the haters causing a positive ps thread to be closed.

Anyway great numbers...imagine when the games start rolling in...I am getting a ps2 like vibe which I dunno if that's good being I never liked the ps2.
