PS4 surpasses 6 million units sold!

The only way a console is going to hit that 100 plus million sold again is if it can end up getting down to $100-$150 price point and I don't know that we'll ever see that happen with the PS4 or X1. Things are included in the machines now that weren't before like HDD's, built in wireless etc.

I'm not sure sony would even agree that the ps3 sold so well.

You have to remember time frames as well. PS2 sold over 100 million in around 5 plus years.

Took PS3 8 years and it still isnt near that. Sold well, sure, sold to sony's expectations, not at all.

Again, Sony needs that go to "gta" game to be on ps2 level of sales (if they don't have the abundance and release schedule of those past systems from third partys.

And, I'd still like more Twisted Metal's, Jumping Flash etc etc type games. I do hope sony re visits games again that didn't meet expectations..

You're comparing it to PS2. In the grand scheme of things, those numbers as well as Wii numbers are anamolies. Consoles don't usually sell as much as PS2 or Wii.

I think everyone needs to get off the "PS2 levels" that they seem so freakin obsessed with, and just look at the numbers compared to current competitors. Fact is, the most exensive console of this past generation, sold as much as their cheaper competitor, with a year less on the market and worse multiplats.

Nothing about PS2 sales take away from what I said. PS4 does NOT need that killer exclusive to do well.

Exactly. Hitting that 100+ sold range is not the norm for consoles, and people need to stop hanging off the PS2's nutsack as the benchline for Sony success (with less being a complete and total failure as some put it).

Why do people need to do that? Are you with the Console can't sell 100 million enforcement?. I'm sorry, I'll try to agree with just you ;)

PS3, 360 are both failures IMO, games were pretty medicore in and out. PS3 a lot less so atleast.

You can't stop me MR.! I will express my own feelings! *runs* You rent a cop you! getting up outta here, only sony can win this fight with their bank accounts G!

I don't have to enforce anything, but when people say dumb things....other will seem them for that.

Come on, calling PS3 a failure simply because they didn't match PS2 numbers? Does that mean that XB1 will be a failure if it doesn't sell over 80 million in it's lifetime?

Really, is that how people see things?

I'm sure you've noticed that how Jackie sees things is pretty unique.

Congrats Sony! 6 Mill and still....

PS3 was much more enjoyable for me then the PS2 worse sales or not.

Yeah, i never understood that logic. Might as well call every console in history a failure except the PS2 then. Sony set the bar so high they can never have another successful console i guess. Looks like the PS4 is on its way though!

Funny how the same logic doesn't apply to the 360 or the Xbox One. Microsoft cut support off for the original Xbox after 4 years and it only sold 24 million. So of course the 360 was going to be a success in comparison to that.

That would also mean most Halos were failures as well.

Xbox's 4 years worth of games was better than 360's 6 or so years perhaps. For me atleast, difference is games were cheaper to develope and didn't take as much to make money back at those times.

I'll consider this a compliment.

I like having you around. It's good to have a few odd ducks in the pond.

As for the PS3 and 360 being failures, though, I disagree. PS3 might have been a financial disappointment for Sony, but ultimately, it has to be considered at least a modest success, given its game catalog and eventual sales. And the 360 was a very big success, not remotely a failure.

But you're apparently speaking about your own preference for games -- whether you personally liked the games on the console or not -- which of course, especially in the context of a sales discussion, is not what most people mean by "success" and "failure."

I don't consider it "odd" jusIt more logical is all

If you are truly the ceo of sony, seeing how you had a 150 million to 22 million lead in sales, would you really feel you had a sucess with ps3? In business, I wouldn't feel I succeded. A improvement from a failure, sure of cousre they improved their mistake about as well as one could hope for.

I am talking about what they need to do to repeat their success basically. No company wants to do much less then they have shown capable of doing before. Yes, yuo can accept market changes and accept lower successes in different ways, but we have yet to truly see that chanage. Only a screw on for sony last gen, but people will argue phones and other entertainment choices eating away into games, and that could possibly be a fair point. I say, we aren't sure yet because sony are the ones who made bad business moves.

"More logical," lol. Ok. Sounds kind of arrogant. To me, it's just your opinion, and everybody has their opinion (usually they think their opinion is more logical, too).

You usually have an opinion that is very different than the norm, which imo is good from a reader standpoint, because it makes the discussion more lively. Nothing more boring than everyone agreeing on everything.

Anyway, about the PS3, you're right of course, it was a big disappointment to Sony. I said that. This is really not a unique Jackie perspective at all, but commonly held opinion. It was way below their expectations and a lot of people considered it a blunder out the gate, especially in terms of pricing. I think that eventually, though, it could be considered successful console -- not as successful as they would have liked, certainly, but in the long run, it sold very well and by anyone's standards left behind a very respectable game library.

I don't think it's an either/or thing, as if something is either "a success" or "a failure" and that's the end of the discussion. It was a failure in some ways and a success in others.

Maybe a little last gen but they learned from it which is a win because this gen so far they nailed it.

Psychology will make some seem arrogant I guess, even when it's not been to be arrogant at all.

I could argue any point someone makes, right? To be odd is to be taught what you feel is odd, which in turn would make yuo wrong. Yeah, that does get old , a little boring so we have to go to that social path in some ways or we would just be alone.. which is also ok? It never ends psychologically speaking.. lol.

Also, it is pointless for people to bring points up that are sound in nature, people don't want to hear that. So, I don't try to explain that stuff in depth at all anymore. I see a few posters at Gaf try to do that. It will never be accepted in today's society though.

Space > atoms > planets > life > money? lol It makes little sense to some , but is so true. Which one makes no sense at all, and where do we fall

You're basing success in a time where competition is fierce to a time where Sony had the market almost to it self. Sony will likely never see that sort of market domination ever again, or any other console maker.

Probably better that way, PS4 would be less powerful more than likely if PS3 was as good as PS2 in sales and staying power. Sony would still alienate their hardware

That would depend if MS gets out of the market after One, and if anyone or if anything else takes that place I guess. Steam could create a place bigger than it currently is, Steam seems pretty big for the hardcore guys but I hardly ever run into anyone who knows what steam is. Steam still has a long way go to tap into mindhsare it seems

Are you high? I have no idea what you're talking about.
