PS5 News + Speculation

It was on stage at CES

I didn’t see it yet. What did they say specifically? Did they confirm HW accelerated RT cores like MS has? They’ve said ‘HW supported’ in the past, but that could be anything from what MS is doing, down to running on FP32 unites in software (still partial hardware).

Have yet to watch but I think this may help...

No the actual quote from the October article was “There is ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware,”

Oh I know but did you see what he said that I quoted?

No I didn't see him question it, it has been common knowledge since October though, I know some of the MS fan sites and fake insiders keep trying to pretend it's something else though, I guess it makes the feature less special when someone else gets to have it lol.

I don't get why some people think these things are going to be so different, they both have access to the same parts, they both have the ability to pick and choose which customizations they want worked in etc it's all going to come down to how much they are willing to spend and what their target price point is.

Don't troll man.

I can't believe there are people over on GAF creaming their jeans about the logo FFS. I need some solid info and specs, but as of now it's sounding like the xbox is definitely outpowering ps5. I'm torn, I wanted to cut down to 1 system this gen, but now xbox has the power and ps still has the games... gaaahhh

When the ps3 logo was unveiled I was stoked and kinda disappointed, love the fact that they used the Spider-Man font but thought it was kinda lazy of them to use it but I guess if they have access to it then why not.

It's really not going to matter, even if the XSX is 2TF over PS5 (still not sold on that btw) it's not going to do much. The X1X had a 1.8tf advantage on PS4 Pro and all it managed to do was higher native resolutions, a little better texture filtering and with the help of extra RAM some games had better textures and that was upgrading games that were meant to run on the original X1. Once games start being developed for the new consoles alone everything is going to take more resources to do so even a small visual advantage will take a larger chunk of available processing power. I'm fine with either one having a power advantage it really doesn't matter to me, it's not like we are where we were last gen where one console was $100 more and was running most of it's games at 720p while the other one was hitting 1080p most of the time.

These are just Twitter people, but I’m posting this because it’s the same thing I’ve been saying.

Cerny also said the PS4 Pro has ‘8.4 TF of computational power’, which is why I’m hesitant to believe him outright in regards to RT.

Troll? This is an open discussion on several forums. Like you’ve said, nothing is official yet. This is the only ‘official’ info released yesterday:

If was official when Cerny said it.
With yesterday being the icing on the cake.

You are trolling by acting like it isn't and yet you post RUMORS acting like they are legit.
You are better than this.

If it's true that it's a 2.8 TF difference....THAT'S SIGNIFICANT sure there could be other factors when comparing specs but on TF's alone that's huge!
Third party games have potentinal to be significantly better and again without knowing all the other factors ie other details of each consoles specs.

I really don't believe those specs, people have been pointing out that it just won't work having everything running at that speed etc. But again it's big on paper but what we got from 1.8TF for games that were originally made to run on much weaker hardware isn't something that's going to show up as well when the baseline is going to be much higher IMO. PS5 will have higher end assets etc too it's not going to just be current gen graphics at a higher resolution.

He was talking about in that rapid pack math he didn't say that's how powerful the console was overall only that it theoretically could be in that specific situation. You guys need to stop grasping at straws like this, that turd sage is a lying sack of crap, he just got a lifetime ban on resetera for his BS. Cerny said it flat out in that October interview that it was hardware accelerated RT, Some of you have chosen to either ignore or misrepresent what he said, you did that in the post I replied to earlier.

If you are that worried about what language is being used you should look at Spencer's "double the performance of the One X" which is not 12TF RDNA, that's all come from gaming "journalists" filling in blanks or the official description for RDNA which is simply "next gen rdna" which is not RDNA2, RDNA1 is next gen from GCN which is what current consoles have, they've never said next generation of RDNA or RDNA2 specifically but you guys just assumed that and ran with it. Is it possible that those things end up being the case? sure but nobody from MS has actually made those claims yet.

Rollins is probably sage...

Console warz in full flow I see.

Have we heard anything new and exciting on the audio front?

Just post an official link from Sony, please. Or AMD. JinCA even said Phil is inflating things by posting ‘2x the power of 1X.’ So no, we can’t say ‘just because Cerny said it’ means it is official.

Those twitter posts are from today, and they aren’t incorrect.

Sony’s only official info is ‘HW based RT.’ As I stated above, that can mean several things, and still be a true statement, which is also why I posted those Twitter posts.

I’m not trolling, it just seems Sony is being coy about this aspect. Maybe they are going to drop a bomb in Feb and reveal they have the same solution as MS, but as of right now, they have nothing official to prove this.

Actually, Jinca said the journalists were inflating things .

Not what I said at all, I said people were taking Phil's quote and turning into something else, it's not his fault they are doing that.

Sony isn't being coy, you guys are just looking for something to try to make an issue out of. In October it was confirmed that it's hardware accelerated RT and that should have been the end of it, it was bad enough that people turned the original claim of RT back in April to mean it was software based simply because he didn't explicitly state it wasn't.

Without any proof you're just trolling.

Oh, you’re one of those crepes guys huh, think you’re better than us because it’s a smaller package, portable and dedicated fan base huh? Some fruits taste better than others when in the caverns of the checkerboards. :p
