Look at that smug bastard! He cant even be bothered to keep his eyes open while he laughs at all the money he is going to steal from us!!

turn based? that s*** is dated as f***. theres a reason why i only finished one jrpg all of last cause of the archaic battle system. If it's a hack and slash, then yes it's going to suck but it highly doubt it is.

What's the point of remaking something held dear to a lot of people, if you aren't respecting the very foundation of its gameplay?

Lets remake GTA as a platformer! Or GranTurismo as a spoof of Mario Kart!

The turn based fighting IS a part of the game, and I think breaking it up (aka cutting half the s*** out) is a poor choice.

I'm sure it'll sell millions, but I don't think SE are doing themselves any favors in the eyes of their fans.

And I wonder how they're going to retain all the end game content if its going to be a butchered game. Chocobo breeding? Golden Saucer? Materia farming?

Le sigh...

GTA should be a dating sim.

Yeah, not exactly what we wanted. But hey, an FFVII remake is happening one way or another and that's what people wanted. So you get what you get sometimes. I bet they'll release it in multi parts and then realize they made a mistake when people don't buy it. We want it altogether on one disc. If they stick with the multi part idea i'll try and wait it out until they release it altogether on a disc.

This is exactly it. Change everything else they feel needs refitting to make it feel fluid and acceptable for a modern audience, but keep the gameplay exactly the same. Otherwise, we might as well call it a Crisis Core sequel or Final Fantasy Dissidia. The people wanting this game are the ones who played it the first one. So make a game that appeals to this audience.

More likely than not it's going to be like FFXIII's gameplay. Which was better than the turn based combat in my opinion. I loved the old school style as much as anyone else but it's 2015 people. It worked for that era. Time's change, and so does gameplay. If FFVII is hack and slash then yeah, screw that. But if it's like the newer FF games then i'm all for it. I think it would be cheesy to have graphics and gameplay like we do today and have it be turned based combat. And do people still want monsters to randomly show up on screen after walking over them like in the original? That was the definition of cheesy.

Using your examples, why wasn't GTA V a top down perspective instead of a 3D game? Why isn't Black Ops a 2D side scroller like Contra? Why ever change anything? Why even buy new games? Just play old games if they're so much better. Not a shot at you, but i can't stand people who treat change, that is often change for the better like it's the plague. I mean really, what is the difference between turn based and real time gameplay anyway? Either way you're planning out your next move. One is just slower than the other. If you want turn based combat, all you have to do is pause the game and think of your next attack. lol

Those were sequels. This is a remake.

Evolution of a series in sequels is expected.

If its a hack and slash, do you honestly think they'll be able to include the ultima weapons etc in any meaningful way?

Why not just male a FF7-2 If the only thing theyre retaining is the story line?

And don't forget, you're not just controlling the one character.

And also, a lot of Squeenix's hack slash games are... Well... Just plain old s***. :p

Not sure why people are annoyed with this. I like episodic games (if that's what this is). Fine with me.

Well for one, because RPG stories like FFVII are supposed to be one big grand story, not episodic. At the end of every RPG, you defeat the world's god and being peace to the planet, not cut to a cliffhanger because you concluded your battle with a mini boss.

The games are meant to be "the size of a normal game" or whatnot, which makes me worry that it wont matter if you skip a few. Will all the work you put into your character transfer over to the next game?

I don't want to farm Knights of the Round materia, only to not be able to use it in then next game.

Although, If its just a hack and slash, it wont really matter I guess.

I like the idea of it being cut up into smaller chunks. If I don't like the first part, I don't have to invest in the whole series. Plus I just like shorter games lately, and I'm not likely to sign on for a 100 hour affair. It also allows them to get it out quicker. If people object to the chunking, they can just wait until the whole series is released and play them all in a row. Lots of whinging about this going on at GAF, I found it pretty silly.

Because it's Final Fantasy VII. You know, one of the best RPGs of all time? The game that made the PS1 what it was. People have every right to be pissed. We've been asking for a remake for a decade and they're not even going to do it right.

Waa.

Hey, i'm happy that it's happening at least. I just don't think it's too much to ask for them to do a proper remake. We don't even know what the gameplay is going to be like but they're going to release it in multiple parts? It's not a Telltale game, it's an RPG. I can't possibly see what the benefit of releasing it in multiple parts is. For one, that means it's going to be digital and 90% of gamers don't like buying digital. Finish the game, then sell it. We're really not asking for much here. Or fine, chop it up but the whole game better be $30 tops. Half ass it, half the money.

If it's about price, they are making this into three full AAA games. So these aren't going to be $5 samples. They are getting people over on this no matter how we look at it.

Whats crazy to me is that people have been begging for years for a remake, and Square has been ignoring them and making friggin' sequels to others. Now they finally do it and change a bunch of stuff.

I guess we shouldn't get worked up before we know more. I just hope that aren't looking for a way to take advantage of people's love for the game and milk it

You can't see any advantage of releasing it in parts? It's so they can get it out earlier. If gamers had to wait for the whole thing, it'll be 2019 (I'm making that up, but you know what I mean).

I'm sure there will be a physical release, too (at least for the complete version). I haven't heard it said it's going to be digital-only.

If it's about price, they are making this into three full "insert ambiguous term here" games. So these

Well, if it ends up costing more than $60 for the whole thing, then yeah, I see a problem with that.

What gets me is that when they announced the sequel, gamers rejoiced: "Thank the gods, after all of these years, they have answered our prayers. Life is wonderful." A few months later, they mention it will be released in segments, and it's "You have ruined everything. Damn you all to hell." lol. Gamers can get so negative and whiney about any small deviation from expectations. I guess it's more pronounced with a "classic" game such as this. People can get rigid about tradition. I was never a fan of the game myself, so I don't really give a squat.

Andy You say This game is a sequel, but it is not. It never was a sequel to anything. It's a remake of the original FFVII game. That's why people are upset with it.

Agreed. None of the ff games were sequels until the X- games

I'm replaying through the original now from the PC port over to the PS4 and I still love the game. I can see how the remake would be huge if they wanted to add a lot of interactivity within the game.

Honestly, if they are making it into a new experience using the same story, I'm in. There were limited things you could do in each town for the original game and it sounds like they want to add more things to do and expand your experience in each area so I expect to see an "episode" per disc which means 3.

Yeah, I know. I don't know why I wrote "sequel." Just careless, I guess. I know it's a remake.

That's my point. If they're just going to rush out the first part to make a buck then i don't want any part of it. Even if it was amazing, i play through the first part and then i have to wait 2 weeks to play more? Or however long it takes to get the next part out. Whatever, we'll see how it goes.

Ok, so, what you meant was that there isn't an advantage for you, and so "I can't see an advantage." Well, other people see things differently and can see an advantage.

If it annoys you that they are releasing it in parts, then just wait until they're all released, and play them sequentially. I don't see how that inconveniences you.

As far as the wait between episodes ... we don't know the size of the chunks, but I'm guessing they'll be hefty, not little bite-sized nuggets, and so the wait will be substantial -- several months at minimum, maybe a year max.

It is definitely over $60 for the whole series. They have stated so in many different ways, saying this game is too big for a single release.

Yup, i will just wait until it's all released together. I just don't want them to rush the game. Maybe my fears are irrational and i'm jumping to conclusions but for those of us true Final Fantasy fans it's not all that unreasonable.

Personally, FFVII isn't even my favorite FF game. I was more of a FFVIII and FFX fan while everyone drooled over FFVII. Great game, but i always thought it was a bit overrated the way people gushed about it. As long as they do it right, i don't care how they do it.
