Official Thread ReCore: Definitive Edition

Hard to say if it's a flop. No sales numbers and no idea on the budget

This game reminds me of Too Human, which was a flop that I happened to enjoy. Recore isn't an epic bombastic game, but it is pretty fun.

I had that same reaction from one of the early previews of the game play - it especially had the look and especially the sound of playing one of the ranged type of characters (I forget, maybe Commando?).

After playing it some more, I really think Recore got a bad rap for the critics. Not a bad game in any sense of the word. Sure it won't set the world on fire but its a solid action platformer. Its a shame that critics picked it apart before it got a chance. I'm almost certain that we won't be seeing a sequel any time this gen or next.

Actually, the teams behind Recore are listening to the feedback and taking it into serious consideration. I think it's possible we may see another game by these guys honestly. You have to visit their Twitter page to see the responses though. Don't have time to link over my phone.

MS seriously needs to invest in a sequel from these guys and keep this game going. As someone else said in this thread, this is their version of Zelda. A huge get in my opinion.

New patch coming

We’ve continued to get great feedback as you playReCore, and we have more good news to share. On October 5th, we’ll be releasing a significant update toReCore for Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Windows 10.

In this update, you will experience decreased loading times, see audio and visual improvements, and notice improvements to issues you may have experienced with waypoints, achievement tracking, collision locations, checkpoints and respawn points.

Nice, looking forward to hearing impressions on the improvements. May push it to a "buy" for me.

This is perfect. I'll be able to check out to see if my laptop can run it at anything approaching playability, so I'll know if I can go ahead and get it now or wait until I have a bit more time.

Im going to play this when the updates comes out.

That's supposed to be today as well. I stopped playing until they fixed the load times, and that's supposed to be addressed in it.

Interested in checking out ReCore, but not sure if you want to buy it? You're in luck, as Microsoft has released a free trial version of the Xbox One and PC game.

The free trial--grab it here--lets you play the game's first 30 minutes. Should you decide to buy the full game after your time is up, all progress and achievements will carry forward, thankfully.
In an Xbox Wire post, Microsoft also thanked fans for their feedback around the game. To that end, Microsoft will release "several key updates" to the game in a patch today.
The new update, which Microsoft characterized as "significant," decreases loading times and also adds new "audio and visual improvements." Additionally, the patch makes changes to the game's waypoints, collision locations, checkpoints, and respawn points, Microsoft said in a blog post.

Microsoft Aaron Greenberg previously talked about the challenging nature of releasing a new IP like ReCore, which comes from Mega Man designer Keiji Inafune and Armature Studio. Part of the reason why it's priced at $40 instead of $60 is because it's a new, unproven IP, he explained.

Even though it comes from a big-name developer, ReCore is till completely new and Microsoft needs to earn gamers' votes, Greenberg said in July. He added that Microsoft launched the game September as its first major new release leading into the holiday season, which may bring more attention to it.

"With new IP like that...ideally, launch timing matters a lot. So that's why you're seeing us launch it as our first title of the season; it's coming in September," he said. "So getting out early. The second thing is it doesn't have an existing base of fans. So we have to build that fan base. Rightly so, [gamers] are very thoughtful about, 'Where do I want to spend my money?, 'What games do I want to buy? So we kind of have to earn their vote; we have to earn their trust; we have to earn their dollar."

Greenberg went on to say that he hopes ReCore can become a "new franchise" for Microsoft.

ReCore also might have benefited from increased exposure due to the fact that it wasMicrosoft's first Xbox Play Anywhere title. This program allows you to buy a digital copy and receive access on both Xbox One and PC

Cool, I'll give the trial version a try. I want to see how it looks on the Xbox. I haven't upgraded to Windows 10 yet, so that's my only choice at the moment.

Please try this game out fellas. It's super entertaining. I've clocked in over 25 hours thus far and Im still not done. (Of course thats because I've been waiting for the patch and FH3 made me it's bitch recently. Got my yellow and pink panties with skid marks and everything. s*** is crucial these days. Fuk it.)

Apparently I'm an idiot. The game was push installed on my XB1 yesterday and because they sent us home early to start hurricane preparations, while I was downloading it for PC I went ahead and played through the demo on the XB1. Because it's a play anywhere I guess I can't now try it on the PC, since the 30 minutes is up. It definitely was enjoyable but I can see why there was a gripe about loading screens.

I played my 30 minutes worth last night and was a bit sorry it ended. I can see that this could be a great game though it's not my normal style of games that I enjoy. I hope we see this on XBLG down the road as I'd like to play it out.

I'm a bit late to the party on commenting on this but it turned out to be a mixed bag for me. I absolutely loved it up until the end game. For me it was absolutely sublime and it was the type of gaming that I have missed. Sadly it just fell apart for me in the end. With the way it is set up I just have no interest in searching for the cores to finish the game, and I tend to finish all of my games. This was such a missed opportunity!

Played the trial. It was good fun. The game is a bit janky and the visuals are suspect but the gameplay was entertaining albeit a bit monotonous. I will look into it when the game drops to $19.99.

Same. Fun game, but I have bigger fish to fry right now.

I went ahead and got it and I'm enjoying it a lot. I am apparently no longer good at games, so while the game feels like it's about the right level of challenge I'm now at a point where I'm getting smacked in the face over and over again.

I played through the first couple of chapters. I wish there was fewer customization options for the bots. Slows things down too much trying to figure out how to best gear up.

Tempting! I enjoyed the trial.

10 second edit: SOLD!

That's definitely a good price to get it at. I ended up jumping in a month or so ago, forget exactly when. I'm nearly through the game now and I have to say the gameplay itself is quite fun, although the loading times are still problematic.

Looking to buy digital so I can play on PC. Anyone else have issues accessing their store from web browser?
