Reports of PS4 hardware issues.

Bummer for reddit user. He still got a PS4 for free though. So hard to feel too much sympathy.

As for the faulty hardware.....WTF. Lets just hope this is a small issue and not a large scale screw up like the RROD.

Meh, still all anecdotal.

Pretty much everyone with a PS4 early would be the type to report a DOA. At least hundreds probably thousands already have them. There's going to be several dead systems in the wild with those numbers.

Happening to have a quick to die system at a gaming news outfit is unfortunate but also could be anecdotal.

Sucks for anyone it affects but you'll get a system for your money... eventually.

It seems like at least a few of those systems stopped working while trying to update firmware, or after updating firmware. While that really sucks, at least it seems to be a mostly software issue so far.

If there are widespread hardware issues that would be quite the PR disaster.

Hopefully this is cleared up and customers taken care of.

So is this a firmware/software issue? It sucks but that would be better than hardware level failures.

Kotaku and a handful of others had faulty HDMI ports on their machines. The rest of the users are experiencing mostly firmware / software related issues with a couple complaining of hardware failure.

Bummer. Well hopefully the hardware issues are minimal and the software stuff is taken care of quickly.

I hate to play devils advocate, but I feel for the guy. He wins a PS4 and wanted to play early, now he is just frustrated and upset that he cant play for probably another two weeks. Running without the HD wont brick the unit, you will simply get an error code until it is re installed. His bricked the same way IGN's did... he was doing a download and it completely froze up on him. He had no choice but to do a hard reset. I think we will find that its an internal error related to the kernal, and or bad HDMI connections on the board.

What I WOULDN'T have done is spend 10 hours trying to fix it!

I would say, don't let it bother you unless EVERYONE that got their console early is having the issue.

It was the way he was going about trying to fix it that made it so epic. It was like watching someone try to get an Eggo out of a plugged in toaster with a screwdriver.

I called it a spoiled 5 year old trying to get a toy out of a package. Instead of in a calming manner simply peeling the back.

Kotaku also got a faulty unit

But the first retail unit that Sony provided me failed to work when I plugged it into a TV in Kotaku's office. A colleague and I were able to compare it to a second PS4 that did work and we found that the issue was rather simple: the bad unit had a faulty HDMI jack that we couldn't fully plug an HDMI cable into. It couldn't make a solid connection and therefore, apparently, couldn't transmit a stable signal to our TV. We tried different cables and monitors. The issue was with the console.

Wall of text.

TL;DR.

Your guess is as good as mine right now.

Bad batch, hardware issue, 33% fail rate, etc...

We're not going to know immediately what the actual case is here, I'm glad I can't get my PS4 before late December now due to the demand for them here.

I have my X1 in less than 7 days, so I'll be fine, unless they too have issues.

This type of thing has me worried. As i have preordered the PS4 from Amazon and it is to be shipped to me in a different country (Via Courier company). It would be a Pain in the as$ and very costly for me to send in my console should it break (God Forbid)

But please keep them coming. My worst fear is that Sony has switched places with Microsoft this gen (RRoD Issues)

That youtube says it's a GPU failure, but I'm more inclined to think it's the HDMI port acting up, if other people are also having HDMI port issues.

If the GPU failed the system wouldn't be running at all.

I'm not going to sugar coat it, this really sucks for PS4 owners and Sony.

Oh I'm f***ing pissed, even though I'm standing up my PS4 I can't handle this s***, wobble wobble!? WTF Sony, you're dead to me Sony, f***ing dead. LMAO

It's faulty but pretty common to have one edge point a bit unstable. I'd guess they'll take care of it in future hardware runs.

IGN's console is also broken
it looks like the newly released ones seem to be having a problem
we will see after tomorrow just how extensive this may be

IGN said they believe it is a hardware issue as they got their to work
by pressing down on the top.

The whole opening post is the IGN article, and they only got it to briefly flicker by pressing down on it.
