Official Thread The Division v. 2

Played for about 2 hours.

The good
  • Loot is everywhere. So much loot that you will dream about loot.
  • Solo play is much improved and far more viable.
  • Weapon handling is different, but not by a huge degree.
The potentially bad
  • I played a group activity, Watergate on challenging, and it seemed to be very very spongy and not all than different from 1.3. Which is in stark contrast to solo play, where the TTK is pretty darn obvious and huge. But because of the changes to player armour you can die pretty damn quickly.
The Bad
  • Status effects on heavy elites are still pretty dire
  • Grenades seem good against red bar enemies only. Kind of pointless throwing them at an elite.

When you say Solo play are you referring to DZ, story missions or what? Or do you mean solo play in general? Status effects on heavies still don't do anything ? Grenades were always kind of useless. Did you set your world Tier?

Just in general. I mean all enemies are the same level now, so doesn't really matter what you do. But for a better understanding, I did a challenging story mission solo. I couldn't do that before.

Status effects on heavies do very little. Gas, flash and similar last maybe a second. Fire slightly longer.

Grenades were useless, but they were supposed to be scaled right in 1.4 but against elite enemies they are not worth bothering with.

I did set my tier. Not sure why it didn't set me to the tier relevant to my gear score though. I am on Tier 4.

Keep in mind though that I only played for 2 hours.

Oh! One thing I can say for sure is the Hunter's Faith Gear Set is still s***. So I will be selling all those pieces and moving on to Predators Mark or Striker's Battlegear.

I read somewhere that Massive is still tweaking the scaling for group play. That might be why your solo vs group experience was so different. I hope they get it right fast because I don't solo if I don't have to. Its much more fun playing with a group.

Bummer about grenades. I thought they were buffed and would scale in damage.

Grenades work fine when playing solo.

Group play, I think, feels worse than before. At least before you had things like Sentry's Call, Smart Cover and Explosive bullet effects. Now though, you don't really have any of those. At least shotgunners are only really dangerous in very close proximity.

They may still be tweaking, but they had 4 weeks of public testing and they didn't really do anything regarding group play. Grenades don't scale. NPCs still way to spongy. A generic builds armour takes way too much damage which makes armour as high as possible mandatory, which in turn will lessen build diversity.

It seems this patch and re-balancing was aimed at Solo players. They will see the biggest changes and the effect on their game will be very positive.

I did get to play a little last night. I was able to easily solo a HVT mission using the Firecrest gear set. It was a lot of fun and boss hunting in the open world is a nice addition especially since I don't like the DZ. As for group play we steamrolled through the Lexington Event Center but things were a little slower on Warrengate Power Plant. I switched to Predator's Mark halfway through the Power Plant and it was shredding enemies. As much as I like Firecrest now, I think Predator's Mark is my new favorite set. I just got a Police M4 that I'm in love with. Add in the buffs coming in from Tactical Link and it becomes easy mode. Grenades felt better but still need to be buffed up. Btw, I'm in world tier 4.

But overall this new patch made the game feel much more fun. And I see more build diversity with other players. But the patch just released so we need to see how things go after players have more time to play. I miss Smart Cover of old, it was nice being almost invincible while in cover but I know why it was changed. It seems like bosses are the only elite enemies roaming the open world, red bar enemies don't present much of a challenge.

Oddly enough , my issue with spogy NPCs in group seemed to go away when they disabled in game chat on Xbox One. I have no clue if it is just coincidence or if it was a cause.A lot of people felt the same sponginess I did, so at least I know that it wasn't just a me thing.

I am currently running 4 Predators Mask with 2 Final Measure, but I am trying to get an Electronic Firecrest build going.I want to use a yellow vest with Robust (gives like 15% armour for staying in cover) and a Holster with Sturdy(Gives 12% armour for staying in the same cover). That way I can roll other stuff instead of all armour.

I haven't played this in forever. Might have to try it again. Hopefully my game updated automatically.

Yeah it didn't feel spongy at all when we did the weekly challenge mission. I'm very happy with the update. The game is actually 'fun' now. Enemies are reasonably killable and loot drops every where like it should in a game that is loot based. I got a reclaimer build in two hours last night. Previous to that I had two months of play and still didn't have the pieces for that build.

We need to try out a Incursion and see how they are....and we need to try out DZ6 and see how that be.

I only played for about 30 minutes but it felt better. Enemies were not bullet sponges. Felt more fun. Have to relearn all my gear and talents.

It is much better now. I might even go so far as to say that somethings are a little too easy solo, or with 2 man groups.

What I do like though, is that things can be going well and you are finding it very easy but then you do something stupid, like going all one man rambo, and you get annihilated.

The Dark Zone NPCs are much better now too, we are back to being able to solo DZ 6 in the top bracket. Now they just need to fix the crap PvP side of the Dark Zone.

I read that Incursions are the only activity to retain the Heroic difficulty. So I expect that to be more challenging.

I was roaming the official forums for build ideas and came across a nice one. 3 piece Nomad, 2 Aplha Bridge and a Steadfast Holster. I tried it out briefly and its amazing. Nomad 3 PC gives constant healing & 15% health on kill, 2 PC Alpha gives 100% health regen speed & the Steadfast Holster offers 100% health regen speed while in cover.

I'm loving the new update. The only problem now is I need new content which should be coming soon with the next DLC.

Not seeing the point of having steadfast...unless your health recovers at 200% speed while in cover.

Can't. Am too busy loving my Firecrest Dragonbreath build

Turrets are actually decent now.

What two pieces are you using along with the Fire crest ? That turret just destroys enemies. It's awesome.

Nothing special right now. I have one random gear set piece and a gold holster with Sturdy talent.

Tried 4 piece Striker, 2 piece Sentry. I stacked stability/accuracy mods on a new M60 I got and DPS skyrockets. I was thinking of creating a Banshee build for PVE by stacking its 3 piece 10% damage bonus to enemies out of cover with 3 piece Lone Star 8% LMG damage bonus. Seems like it could be really good but I'll need to test it out. There are now so many fun builds to play with.

D-V-ANT was rocking that Lone star + Banshee build.

I'm using the 3 piece Banshee and 3 piece 3 lone star with the Pakhan LMG and a Saga12 shotgun. It's a great build. DPS is around 220k, Toughness 350k and Electronics 110k. I strongly recommend the Pakhan if you go with this build as it shreds enemies.

I forgot there is a 229 Pakhan for sale. I need that for the LMG Alpha Bride build I want to make. I've been getting really lucky with drops but with so much loot dropping I suppose the odds are now in the players favor. The skilled talent keeps dropping on weapon drops which means my signature skill comes back really fast. I really hope those that left try out 1.4 because I think if they do they will be playing for a while.

Survival DLC

  • Multi player mode - 24 players: PvP and PvE option
  • PvE option simply turns off the ability to kill other human players.
  • Lasts for around 2 hours per game.
  • You basically crash and are left alone with nothing but basic gear and a pistol. No health packs, no skills.
  • You have to battle the cold, hunger, dehydration and sickness.
  • Everybody starts out arouns the perimetre of the map.
  • Enemeis get stronger the closer you get to the middle of the map.
  • Destination is the Dark Zone to extract any virus viles you find--which are the point of the mode.
  • Crafting is a big part of the mode and used to craft things such as skills.

No release date yet, but it did go live on the PTS servers today for mass testing.

Sounds pretty decent to be fair. It just depends how much those survival elements effect you and how tough the enemies truly are. But with it being on the PTS it means we should start seeing lots of videos and impressions soon enough.

You missed that it is also one life only. You die. The game is over. Sounds awesome. I love these brutal game modes.
