Had a dream last night that aliens invaded. They first disabled major infrastructure (phone networks, water, electricity), then used our phones to track where we were hiding since they were tapped into the network. They started "infecting" peoples' minds to act as their muscle and hunt down survivors. I was able to get away from one infected by riding a little razor scooter as fast as I could, but was still barely able to get away.

Then I made it to a parking lot where a bunch of people were hiding in the cars at night, and then those survivors chased me out saying there was no room for me. Finally, I climbed over a bunch of fences (while being chased by wild racoons) to a rooftop and discovered a bunch of moldy containers of water and other supplies.

It was then that I realized this invasion was not the first time they invaded. The "survivors" were those previously infected but snapped out of it - and we had lost all memory of the initial invasion.

Then I woke up.
Fast forward 20 years and this forum and you will be remembered as Nostradamus 2.0

I rent a two bedroom apartment right in the heart of the city for $1150 (50 a month for cat rent, bitch hasn't paid me back a dollar), and am actually moving to a comparable sized place for $850 a month starting in Mid-March. I found a steal of a deal and will be using this to my advantage over the next year or two while I finish up my master's. This is definitely not the norm and I'm still sitting here wondering how the hell I found such a steal. Gotta be something wrong with the apartment but I checked EVERYTHING lol.

This IDK about. Yeah the future generations are a bit more vocal online right now, but it's just like every other generation before it. Sure there's some lazy people, but working at a university you see dedicated students hard at work on their STEM degrees. The complainers complain because they won't put in the work to get there and then yell online because they found a segment of dumbasses that fall in line with them. Real world sucks, and I'm thankful to have the position I'm in to my advantage (free school whoop whoop)
Wow that sounds like a great deal, I'm glad you found it!

As far as the future, everything is set up to get worse IMO and as I said tech will continue to improve but that will also lead to more people being put out of work. Far too many young people these days think they are entitled to everything, a good portion of them think taking pictures of themselves all day long and posting them is work lol.

No mom and dad both want me to go back to school to get a teaching degree. Thinking about it heavily. Can retire in 20 years with 60% pension.

Because in my opinion (my mother and step-mother were teachers for 20 years) it's nothing but a thankless position that is bogged down by even more bureaucratic nonsense than any job imaginable. You work for 10 hours a day minimum just to get s*** on by parents, children, and administration. You'll like teaching the kids, but everything else that comes along with it is not worth the stress.

Not to even mention the amount of money out of pocket you'll need to pay because of lack of budgets, and a certain previous administration took away the ability to write off said money due to "tax cuts." You'll be taking a monster pay-cut to do a lot more than you signed up for.

Maybe it's different up in New York, but that's how it was down here for my parents.

It’s different here, when speaking to teachers who are doing it now. Parents will always be an issue, but the hours aren’t insane like what it used to be with the advent of newer technology. I’m going to substitute for the next couple months to get an idea if I like it or not, if I do which grades I’d want to teach. Also, with the degree I’d be able to teach in college as well.

Also getting my personal training certification again. Will be doing that part time as well for the time being.

So did you quit your job then?

And good luck man. Hope it works out for you. Don't teach middle school lol

I've been looking for new jobs on LinkedIn today, thinking I"m going to start updating the resume. I've been going through phases for the last year where I like my job and then hate my job, not feeling it at all recently. The whole process of applying and interviewing is a pain, but it's a good thing to go through the process now and again to decide if you want to stick around or not. There's a pretty good market for experienced and talented individuals these days from what I understand, worth putting some feelers out there.

Been browsing Indeed and also thinking about moving which is another pain in the ass process.

There seems to be a lot out there, and also a wide variety in case there’s something new you want to try. I have friends that own businesses and I’m going to go in and out to see how they operate. A few own restaurants and I’ll get to see how it all really works from prep to closing.

I’ve only had two full-time jobs in my entire life, and also personal training, part-time, for a number of years. So, this will be a whole new world. Since I was 17 years old I’ve been working 40 hours a week, more when I was training. Never had anything under 40.

Well if you're thinking about moving into the restaurant business you won't be working anything under 50, unless you're a hands off owner who balances the books.

Never a restaurant. My friend who owns one won’t allow me to get into the restaurant business. Just seeing how a service business works from open to closing.

What other industries are you looking into besides teaching? Or are you just kind of doing a tour of capitalism and services?

Well as someone in tech I'd recommend it. I work with programming access control stuff and it pays very well if you get in at the right place.
Would have to go back to school to get certifications for that. IT is a possibility. I have a long tech background, but nothing certification wise.

I can, but don’t employeers usually need proof of certification?

Yeah, but it really depends on the job. Jobs that are super specific often have certs with them, but many IT jobs are like 3-4 jobs mashed together.

Plus, a lot of postings ask for the world, but then offer lower pay. I see tons of jobs that require multiple certs and 10+ years experience, then offer a more entry level salary. Some companies just have completely unrealistic expectations.

The funny thing about IT is that usually the people hiring don't have a clue and know less than people applying, so they rely on stuff like certifications.

For straight up system admin jobs, certs are pretty big, but otherwise, most jobs are all over the place. I'm supposed to be a programmer, but honestly I'm 90% business analyst and QA tester at this point.
