The Witcher 3: Official Thread, v. 3.0

I finished last night, I played on the second to hardest difficulty, did every quest I could possibly find, failed one quest early on and another that I apparently didn't get to before doing something else. Not sure what happened there because I was babysitting my quests at that point and trying to make sure I did the lowest leveled ones first. I got all but two of the Qwent cards. One I missed in the beginning with the inn owner and the game progresses to a point where you no longer have the option to play her. When I realized I couldn't get that one I didn't bother trying to get the other missing leader card. I completed all the fist fights but got bored with the horse racing so didn't finish those. I played about 250 hours and just absolutely loved this game! I was feeling a little burned out by the end but a lot of that was because of all the minor side quests because there was so much to do in this game!

This story was just fantastic, the character animation and the voice acting was some of the best I've ever seen in a game. I never played the first Witcher game, the second one was just okay to me, didn't think it was bad, didn't think it was great and Geralt was kind of dull to me and Triss was even duller. I went with Geralt and Yen - loved the banter between the two, loved how I ended things with Triss on good terms. Loved all the secondary characters but, wow, Ciri, just loved, loved, loved her - especially the interactions between her and Geralt. I wish it hadn't taken so long into the game to finally reunite them because that pairing was the best in the game. I also thoroughly enjoyed playing as Ciri and wish their had been more of that. Her character and abilities would be worthy of a stand alone game with an appearance or two of her surrogate dad! This game had me laughing at times and crying at times. Best game I've ever played! I'll most likely play through again when the DLC content comes out and try and play some stuff differently. If I wasn't feeling so burned out by all the side quests and trying to do everything I'd hop back in. Next time I may just play it on the storymode setting and just enjoy the story!
We need a Play as Ciri DLC with at least 20 hours of gameplay. My money is ready.

On a side note, I think time is ripe for a Story & quest Witcher 3 discussion (spoiler warning) thread.

Yeah, I would take a Ciri expansion.

As for a new thread, why? You can spoiler and tag your story stuff in here.

There's so many things to do! I decided to go after the Griffin Witcher set and I realized I liked stumbling across events and POI rather than chasing them on the map. It makes the experience much more realistic.

I think I'm going to turn off ? in the world map.

Anyone find this true for them?

I'm late to the party but just started playing The Witcher 3 on Xbox One. Words can't describe how awesome this game is.

Words really can't, such a rich story (and I've said it before - some of the side stories have better stories than other games), such a rich world and awesome gameplay!

Quick question- if I manage to woo Triss, will that affect Yennefer beyond a stern talking to? I am very glad I played The Witcher 2, as I feel connected to these characters. It actually felt really good to see Triss again. Not having played the first game, Yen doesn't mean much to me yet, but I know Geralt loves her, so I don't want to mess that up.

It was cool seeing Letho again as well.

Not sure. Tried to woo Triss but that ship sailed. Literally. I told her I loved her but she didn't respond and jumped on a boat.

Yennefer threw Geralt's bed out of the window in Kar Morhan because it had red hair in it. When I tried to reason with her she teleported me 200 feet in the air and i fell into a lake. When I got back to her, she didn't want to talk about it anymore. And that was that. Not sure if Triss will show up again or if Yennefer will forever hold her against me.

This game doesn't play nice with stock OC'ed videocards. Had to downclock in order it not to lock up every 10 minutes. Took advantage of the steam refund policy. AAA PC releases have been garbage recently.

So as it stands now regarding the console versions Xbox One > PS4 based on performance?

I plan on getting the game soon. But I haven't played the PS4 since the latest patches have come out. I rented the X1 version after the cap lock and it was a major improvement.

1080p > 900p. But I want as smooth of an experience as possible. Frame drops are really distracting and headache inducing.

Any unbiased thoughts?

Boy you must have pissed them both off! Ha Ha! I had both those scenarios, saved before Triss and played it out to see what happened and "things progressed" in a good way - don't want to spoil. Then I reloaded and told her I didn't love her and she went on her way. Yen reacted that way with the bed but I think I was able to sweet talk her. You might have missed some opportunities with both of them in earlier quests to chat about your relationships with both of them. You know you made the right choice if they smile or react positively after an answer. For instance Yen likes it when you defend her when someone has insulted her. If you told Triss you loved her even though she still left may have ended any chance with Yen.

Booo. I like Triss, but I want to get to know Yen too. There must be a way!

Not sure, but at Gamersyde( I think it was) they were saying the new patch didn't help the PS4 much. The X1 version has been smooth for me. I was so happy to see that rotation stutter go the way of the dodo.

Grass does not cast shadows. And apparently this is true for pc too. It's a shame i think.

Playing on Death March. Still not too hard to play. Maybe I really am spoiled from Dark Souls lol.

A few fps difference vs a 40% resolution difference...being PC isn't a option right? Id get the PS4 version especially since more optimizations are coming.

When was this said and what update was it? I ask because a new update is coming for both consoles soon.

I have the PS4 version and I find it unplayable atm. You could hold out a few patches and see if it's corrected, but otherwise, I can't recommend the PS4 version.

I do not not how far are you. Triss is cool, but Yennifer hotness is off the charts. Once you get to Skillige to know her, you will see what I mean. I was team Triss until I met Yennifer again.

See, that's not fair! She is a cold bitch when you first see her after chasing her for how many years? If she were more warm at the first meeting I'd be less likely to favor Triss right now.

She remains cold, arrogant, bossy, pain in the ass, & making friends everywhere not....but she is also absolutely charming, as if you are put on a spell....I am giving too much away. Just play the game further then we discuss about Triss & Yen again.

Face it. You just don't like that Yennifer is the man in the relationship. :D

Yennifer is awesome. I pissed her off at the Kaer Morhen castle in an argument, and she ended the argument by teleporting me into the middle of the ocean.
