Thief

Do you get more weapons (sword) later on in the game? I know his thing is stealth and non violence. But sometimes you get into situations where a sharp pointy object would be usful.

I really like the game...reviews were usually right, technical issues and the narrative sorta suck, but the gameplay easily makes this game an 8. Friggen plebs complaining about the "combat" in a stealth game..

I initially had given the game a 6.5 to a 7 when I had played the first few chapters. I finished the game up last night and am bumping that to a 7.5 - 8 because I did really end up enjoying the game and am playing through again. My biggest gripes is this game should have looked better considering who the devs are and what they've given us in the past. I think the game from chapter four on got really, really good and interesting to play.

Yeah it gets more interesting the more you get into the game, also I recommend turning off focus and objectives and just explore the city.
I honesty can't understand a lot of reviewers saying about long loading times when moving from one section of the city to another, whatever loading screens I have come across they have been pretty snappy.
And again not seen any framerate problems or stuttering.

So now Digital Foundry "doesn't count" or "sucks" or "is paid off" because the PS4 loses this match up? This is priceless folks!

I'll buy this game cheap on Steam in a few months.

I like it. But it's not a $60 purchase for me

I think I'll wait until it becomes a PS+ title maybe at the end of the year or early next year? I can wait.

Has more to do with disadvantages of the developers build for the 4, not that the 4 wasn't capable of better.
Thief: the Digital Foundry verdict
If you've just bought a next-gen console, this Thief reboot is likely not your best choice for showing off its strengths. Visually, the PS4 should be the front-runner given its 1080p presentation, but through the virtues of effective anti-aliasing, the 900p frame-buffer used on Xbox One holds its own in practice. However, the PS4's weaker texture filtering does factor into the comparison more visibly, with assets appearing blurrier than they should at a distance, and asset pop-in proving slightly more evident. Given that all other settings are a match between next-gen platforms, the Xbox One release - surprisingly - stacks up favourable against a maxed-out PC playthrough.
Performance on PS4 and Xbox One counts as a bigger concern, and neither deserves any sort of recommendation here. Frankly, it feels unpleasant to control Garrett when moving with any haste - not due to frame-rate dips alone, but because of the pacing of these frames, leading to stuttering. We'd encourage buying the well-optimised PC version, as handled by port veterans Nixxes, over either of these next-gen releases as there are far fewer issues in this regard.

You forgot this part of the verdict as well:

All in all, it's hard not to be disappointed on a technical level with Thief. It's often our refrain, but in this case we'd strongly urge opting for the PC release if it's an option. If you're committed to buying for one next-gen platform or another, the superior texture filtering on Xbox One means it carries itself slightly better in the visual stakes - but frame-pacing aside, for the most part all three versions match up very closely indeed.

You forgot this part of the verdict as well:
Yeah, the Xbox is the best of two bad choices, computers rule, consoles drool, yadayadayada. Sorry for the "omission"; I'm just not that desperate for a back-handed compliment for the ONE, I guess.

And Xbros have used that excuse as well. Priceless like you say.

More problems with framerate on the PS4, because of 1080p, fewer problems on the X1, due to 900p, at least according to this guy:

"Playing through Thief on PS4 and Xbox One over the past week I'm not so sure 1080p on consoles is a standard that should be set for next-gen. The PS4 version struggles needlessly to try to maintain a 30 frames per second presentation, regularly dipping into the 15-20 range during gameplay. At several points in the journey, it even edges toward the single digits. That isn't even something I remember dealing with on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360."

"What makes this particularly controversial is the Xbox One version does a much better job of maintaining a steady framerate. I'd go as far as to say because of this, the Xbox One version is better. So how is it that Thief on Xbox One is able to do this? Well, the short answer is 900p."

"It's displayed at a lower resolution, requiring roughly 660,000 fewer pixels per image to be rendered. However, the visual clarity would make you think the six-digit figure is in no way accurate. The truth is that's due to diminishing returns. Between 900p and 1080p the images don't look nearly as different as going from the standard definition output of 480i up to 720p. Surprisingly, the pixel difference is the same."

Love this.

Make sure to read the follow up posts. He backtracks or waters it down quite a bit, and others have reported differently.

This guy never played ME 1 on 360. Some parts of that game definitely bogged down to the teens or possibly single digits. The final boss fight or driving around in the Mako.... you could practically count the frames!

You know the funny thing. I swear some members here have been saying they do not care if a game looks better on one console then other, & visual don't matter for the longest time. But suddenly the same people get excited when an xbox version of a game is recommended over the PS4 version, & can't stop talking about it.

You would think if someone say something like above they wouldn't have bother to post on a comparsion thread, let alone claim 'victory'.

Apparent, for some people, visual or which version do not matter...........unless XBOXOne version is supposely better. Then it matters.

Not to dig at anyone in particular, just finding this funny. Gamers are a funny lot, ain't we.

Just remember folks, Thief runs on a modified Unreal Engine 3, let that soak in for awhile.

Sure, and it goes both ways. People will seize on whatever data supports their favorite and dismiss the data that doesn't. Confirmation bias, it's called. Same thing goes for preferences of all sorts -- political parties, philosophies, beliefs of all sorts. It's not really a gamer thing. It's just people being people.

True, but credibility of the person will be questionable if he choose to be too selective/one-sided.

Its understandable everyone has a favorite sport team, favorite actor , singer etc. Its also understandable we may be more forgiving, bias towards them. But some people cross the line of biasness that credibility are lost.

I used to like a footballer Ryan Giggs, but how can anyone defence him for having an affair with his own sister-in-law for 7 years. Undefendable. I love Adam Sandler, but I will not defend him & say his lastest films are good when they are NOT!

What I can say as a fan, is hoping he will do better in his next film.

Agree. Some people are more prone to that than others. I of course never do it myself. :tounge:

It's all good in the hood. You shall be forgiven. ;)

Don't forget too, that it got poor review scores, so it doesn't "count". I've seen this one used a lot as well.

Well character movement is pretty sweet so far .... BUT MAN the first CGI scene does look horrible :/ but i think i'll enyoy this till MGS and after that finally Final Fantasy hehe

I am really liking the game so far ... the stealth and slow aspect suits my playstyle perfectly.

What's actually pretty funny is paying $100 for entertainment features and weaker gaming performance but whatever floats your boat.
Weaker or no. But the entertainment features speak for themselves and 900p is more than enough to keep parity against the 4. Think on it this way: if the 4 has games now, in 1080p, what else is it going to do? Go to 4K?..........Doubtful. Everyone states that the 4 games will only improve, which is true. But not in resolutions, and not in frames per second. Once the XBO is at parity, it has to come back to the games. You agree?

Besides. Its pretty impressive that an entertainment console with weaker hardware is near neck and neck with a gaming console with superior hardware. Dont you think? How DO they do it? ;)

But no seriously, new engines will come out. FPS can only get better or stabilize, same with the image quality. If they can get that and maintain 1080p, I'll be happy.

I'd say building a better hardware and well-engineered console at $100 less is more impressive.
