Alot is due to clickbait journalis.
Headlines these days are 70-80% clickbait or selling narrative to generate clicks. Heard a headline that claim Ps5 is faster.. if you do not know any better, you thought PS5 is more powerful, when it’s just the SSD that is faster.
but “PS5 SSD is faster“ doesn’t generate clicks, like “ PS5 is faster than XBoX Series X!”
i read a while ago I saw an interesting video by a physiologist why smart people believe or do dumb things, some even super obvious, even in your face.
basically people, smart or dumb, will try to use the least amount of brain power necessary to accomplish a task. When reading or hearing things, people tend to just believed things on face value, that they want to believe, choose to believe, & not bother to check. The opposite is also true, where people will reject, downplay or denial at face value, things that they don’t want to believe, or choose to believe.
I always hear people cried, “ (insert person name) think we are so dumb to believe what (he/her/ they) said? “
which I like to reply, “ No, they don’t think you are dumb, they think their target audiences are”.
