What movies have you seen recently?

Been making my way through the Dirty Harry sequels. I'm not sure I'd ever seen any of them all the way through, but recognize bits and scenes from each. This last weekend:

Magnum Force
The Enforcer

I'm about half of the way through Sudden impact.

I also watched Spontaneous over the weekend, which just hit Amazon Prime. Pretty entertaining with a unique plot (kids in a high school start spontaneously combusting and no one knows why), though the teen angst aspect was a bit heavy for my tastes. Still worth checking out, I see a lot of people are liking it a great deal.

Nobody - Had low expectations due to the main actor only really having done series drama/comedy roles, but he was actually decent in this Jhon Wick/The Equalizer style action romp. I enjoyed it.

Monsters of Man - Low budget, poorly acted sci-fi movie. The Robots were creepy, though. Not worth watching IMO.

The Wolfman ( 2010 )

This is kind of a call back to the old original Universal Pictures Wolfman movies in the black & white days of film. Some of it is a mixed bag with visual FX, though one transformation sequence in the asylum is really, really well done.

Mortal Kombat - Ehhh some of the fight scenes were cool but just didn't deliver, needed more sub zero and scorpion and less of the crappy main character. Taslim was awesome as sub zero.

Mandy - Rewatch on Shudder's The Last Drive In last night. This movie is still awesome, audio and visual overload.

So sad the music composer passed away. I think he put his soul into this heavy synthesizer film score.

Hope to see more from this director.

BTW this director made another very trippy movie Beyond The Black Rainbow that is worth a look.

Such a great soundtrack, I listen to Children of the New Dawn quite regularly.

I've seen Beyond the Black Rainbow. I had absolutely no idea what was happening the entire time, haha.

Crazy that Panos Cosmatos' dad was the director of Cobra, Rambo First Blood Part 2, Tombstone, and Leviathan!

Sometimes I play this heavy synth track.

Yeah I thought it was just okay. Wife enjoyed it quite a bit though.

I will add that the HDR looked awesome on my non-OLED TV. The CGI landscape shots were gorgeous.
Thought they looked ok. I found myself yelling out "Fake" a lot at the effects. Not sure if it was because they were so obvious, or that it was completely unrealistic?

Psycho Goreman - Pretty unique, cool practical effects. Has some fun non-obvious references to a handful of '80's & '90's movies. Free on Shudder now.

There's a dead pixel in the movie Army of the Dead. Noticed with about one hour left. So relieved when I realized it was the movie and not my TV.
Yes, there's plenty of them, thought I was gonna cry when they started popping up everywhere in that first building they went into after going through the wall.

Chaos Walking: okay

Starring Peter Parker and Rey Skywalker...also Hannibal Lecter.

The premise is really neat: on an alien world, a person's thoughts are automatically visibly projected. You can't hide your thoughts from anyone.

There's action, humor, and cool visual effects. However, there's a lot left underexplored and unexplained in the film.

The ending is somewhat satisfying, but overall the film does not meet its full potential.
