Who's going all digital next gen?

I'm going all digital for sure. Convenience, more $ to the dev's, take advantage of the full power of X1...

I have always traded in old games in the past, but the amount you get back these days has really decreased, making it less enticing. I really like the idea of no disc swapping and being able to snap from one game to another and to apps.

i will never go digital only. the day sony and ms does this is the day i stop gameing.
any way the xbone 1 only has a 500 gig drive and you cant change it
what is an "xbone 1" sounds cool! Is it a "gameing" machine?

as long as they offer tradeins for discs but not digital then I'll never be completely digital. There may be some games I'll buy digitally knowing I'll never trade them in. But I wouldn't for example buy Madden, COD or any other yearly release digitally if I can't trade them in. Makes no financial sense.

I would have if all the other stuff was in place, but there is no incentive to do so right now.

You don't need to change it. Just add an external hard drive to the usb 3.0 port.

All digital here. Next generation is here. Only way I will get physical discs is when they allow us to install and play without the disc in there.
This.

I know I'll eventually be investing in at least a 3 TB external HDD, but by the time I do that 5 TB or maybe even larger will be the norm.

All digital. Everyone I speak to getting an X1 has expressed going all digital as well. I expect the launch to be indicative of a new wind of change in the game retail space.

I've been all, okay well mostly digital for the last 2 years or so. I pretty much stopped playing my 360 when I built my current PC and now with my PS3 I only own UC3 (came in the bundle) and GTAV. The only reason GTAV is physical is I read that the PSN DD version had stuttering/performance issues. Come next-gen, should I get and keep a PS4 and should Sony make DD as fast as Steam (games take FORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREVER to DL on PSN or XBL for that matter) then I'll gladly go all digital there as well.

The Xbox One will not support external storage at launch, Microsoft has confirmed.

All Xbox One units come with a 500GB internal harddrive, but this cannot be replaced. In May, when the Xbox One was unveiled to the world, Microsoft said you'll be able to use the console's USB 3.0 port for external storage, and use that for game installs and downloads.

This won't be a feature supported at launch, though. "The future plan is for definitely to support external storage much like we do on the Xbox 360," Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb said during a podcast conducted at PAX over the weekend (skip to the 37 minute mark).

"My understanding is that feature will not be there at launch because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list. I don't know when it will come in though."
i guess it was one of the things that went AWOL with the 180.

no resale, no price save, no physical copy

i'm fine with retail

I will try to. But downloading a big 20GB game (which I suspect games will only get bigger) can take quite a long time.

Right now I'm at about 80% digital. I haven't bought a disc based game in two years (I think the last one was Red Dead Redemption). For me it's very convenient to just go to the PS store, mash a couple buttons and wait for the game to download and install. The discounts I get with PS plus also affect my decision to buy online.

If and when I decide to buy the PS4 I can imagine almost all of my purchases being digital. I just wish they would knock 5 dollars or so off the price for day one downloads.

The good thing about this though is now we can start playing the games while they are still downloading. At least on the Xbox One. I'm not sure if that feature is available on PS4 as well?

PS4 also supports it according to Sony.

Not at first. If we can get good sales like Steam then I wouldn't mind. Otherwise I'll go physical to start so I can trade games in or wait for sales.

There won't be enough games to even fill the 500gb hard drive before external hdd support arrives, it's inconsequential...but people love to try and make an issue about it.

Apparently people try to make an issue about everything. 500gb will be enough for alot of games. I'm pretty sure the games will be stored on the hdd in a compressed format, and will only be unpacked when needed.
Anyone know how big a typical game will be? 10 og 15 gb perhaps?

no idea, but it would be helpful if components could be left out of the download entirely: only want the campaign? that's fine, save some bandwidth and you can download the multi-player later, if and whenever you want (think of a game like cod in which i doubt many people bother with single player at all).

sony released a video showing an option to this effect saying you could download the separate components in a custom order, but i'm not sure if that allows you to skip them entirely.

I didn't thought of that, but yes, that would be awesome to have the option to download in custom order

100% digital.

I want the benefits all digital affords me. More interesting sharing and features will come with digital which physical cannot offer.

I'm hoping that when they bring external HDD support that it will work with network drives and that I can have the games stored there so that I can access everything anywhere in the house across the 2 X1 (for starters at least).

At first I am guessing about 20Gb easily...GTA 5 on current gen is around 16-17Gb, by the end of next gen I fully expect to see games hitting 50Gb

Indeed. If someone plays a lot of games, 500 gigs could fill up rather quickly. Better add external HDD support fast.

I will go all-digital if MS brings back family sharing for digital titles.
You know they will bring that back. That was welcomed with open arms worldwide when we first heard about it.
