Why CoD is 720 on X1.....

I think just a bit of laziness is the word of the day, mind you if the PS4 is built more like a PC then it would've been easier for them to develop for rather then have to work around the multiple specialized processors in the X1.

There's conspiracy. No developer/publisher that wants to keep his job will say anything bad on record about the PS4 or Xbox One.

This would especially be the case with Mark Rubin/COD and Microsoft, where MS is paying likely tens of millions of dollars for timed exclusive DLC and exclusive advertising (notice all COD commercials have the Xbox One logo at the end?).

If this situation was reversed for AC4 (where Playstation has a similar advertising/dlc exclusivity), I would also especially take anything that Ubisoft said with a grain of salt.

Adjusting contrast isn't a cheap trick, if anything, too much contrast makes the image worse as different shades of blacks or whites become one.

It is a cheap trick imo. If people want higher contrast they can adjust their TVs. It tends to lead to the wrong claim that "higher contrast = larger/more detailed textures".

My opinion that it's a cheap trick can't be right or wrong, btw. I suggest you learn the difference between opinion and fact before calling things "wrong". That right there is worth a laughing gif.

That's like me saying that I could use the contrast "cheap trick" to make my current gen games look next gen. You can't say anything, because that's my opinion. derp.

contrast won't make textures look better but it will make them pop..... so yea....

I'd love for a developer to say that. Just once. "Why were there problems with your game?" "Well, you know, our team is pretty lazy and not very talented or bright." :laugh:

Yes, because that's what people are saying and thinking anyway. At least if they admitted to it and said something like "We're going to work extra hard on the next game" they'd get some credit from gamers that believe they're copy/pasta/lazy/bad anyway.

I'd LOVE more transparency in gaming.

Case in point: Bioshock Infinite. I loved it, really did (nowhere near as much as 1 or 2, but still...) but it was NOT the game they teased a couple years back, not even close. Sure, there were scenes/events that unfolded similar to the teaser stuff, but it was NOT the same game.

The main thing was Elizabeth, she was supposed to be this uber powerful whatcha-ma-jiggy that would amplify your vigors (this is why I think they were so lackluster in the end product). Fighting a crowd of 30 enemies and have the shock-jockey vigor? No problem because Liz will make it rain (literally) then you can shock them and the water will make it hit all 30 of them.

Fighting a big bad ass big-daddy wannabe and have TK? No problem, TK a bunch of s*** to Liz and she's turn it into a house sized molten ball of high velocity death.

None of that was in the game and they never said why. I would have given Irrational a lot more respect had they said "Well, the game we wanted wasn't possible on current gen consoles so we had to scale back on all that really cool stuff we were doing".

Then I would have been all "Okay, just give it to us in Infinite 2, should there be one". As it stands I've no interest in another Infinite title.

All because there's no transparency in gaming.
 
Next years cod for ps4 and x1 will look 100 times better then ghosts because they will use a real next gen engine and they will have a year working on these consoles
 
Is there actual confirmation of them moving to a "real next gen engine" next year or are people just assuming?

I imagine they'll keep releasing PS3/360 games for at least 2 more cycles myself. And they'll probably continue to upgrade their existing engine.

Not anything terribly wrong with that. We'll get a better looking COD game next year but where is this idea that they'll abandon their existing engine coming from?

A) Just sit back - "You can't even tell the difference between 720p and 1080p anyway." / "While the resolution is lower, that allows for greater effects and better textures." / "It is a developer choice to go with 720p, not that the Xbone is not powerful enough."

B) Gotta be the tools - "Devs are just learning to use the tools, next game they release will be up to par." / "Immature tools will improve over time."

C) Dat needy OS - "MS hasn't had the time to optimize memory usage for the OS." / "Kinect and OS functions like Snap currently have a set amount of memory allocated to them, but MS is going to release some of that in the future."

D) Lazy, lazy Devs - "This game could easily be 1080p at 60 on Xbone, it doesn't even look good!" / "If the Devs bothered to optimize their game and weren't so lazy this could easily be (insert any resolution above 720p here)."
 
Well I guess since I'm getting both it's not a big deal to me. I was hoping for a bit more parity though.

I hope this all fades away soon.
 
I'd re-write D. to say it was the developers choice to use the scaler engine as a way to most efficiently use their limited resources because the cost/reward benefit of hitting 1080p was negligible.

However if they strip effects from the ps4 just so it can state its 1080p that makes it somehow better? what we need is two games running at 720p or 1080p and see which looks better...

No devs are lazy some are just better then others, the amount of effort even the so called 'lazy developers' have to put in to get a working, shipping game out the door is immense. The task is not a small one which creates a natural divide wrt to talent and also time constraints.

Should have put lazy in quotes. I know they aren't really lazy, game development is not an easy task. Just meant that the game seems more built for current gen than next gen, and it shows.
