Wii U beats PS4 and Xbox One to fastest selling UK console ever crown!

Toys R us:
916-929-9500 - sold out.

Go ahead, check it out folks. Sold out.

That would cost me too much to call from Australia. Good work calling everyone up to confirm if they have consoles in stock, I'd not think that was part of your job requirement though.

TRU: Toys R Us how can I help you?

Me: Oh hi I post on a gaming site, and live about 1000 miles away, but there's an MS employee that wants me to see if you have any Xbox Ones because he's in denial that the PS4 outsold the X1.

TRU: o_O

The story just doesn't mean anything with the process they used.

It implies one of two things - either demand is lower than PS4, or Microsoft is replenishing supply better/faster... But the story (as written) does nothing to prove/indicate one way or the other.

You guys are free to read into it, and take away what you wish from it, but this story factually does not disprove Microsoft's statements about demand and selling out, nor does it indicate PS4 is in more or less demand. It's just of little value or interest.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Take this picture for example.

It tells one story, but there is another behind it.

I think the best post was the congratulatory one for Microsoft and Sony for going all out to make sure everyone who wants a console eventually does get one this holiday season.

It still amuses me that these threads on many sites, get people so caught up on which console will sell the most. Why do people have to justify there purchase with so much passion? Its like if X console sells more they have won the World Series.

Its great both Xb1 and PS4 are selling well, means the console business is going great and we have a future of proper gaming to look forward too.

I don't think it's that much doom and gloom, as most people say, Wii U will probably be fine.
- It won't win this generation - but it can certainly become a profitable venture over time. :-/
- It has it's own software-library, and able to make it stand out amongst the competition with free online play, etc
- I think the main thing it needs is a pricecut - it would be a clear console number two for many people, especially if they have kids. :-/

Personally, I would like to see them come up with some new IP's with some new characthers, not Mario, Zelda or earlier past stars, but have no idea if that would turn the trend. :-/

I think that tablet controller is going to keep them from being able to drop the price quickly, they were already losing a little money when the hardware launched.

They already dropped the price $50 and include a great game or 2. They Zelda WW bundle or the Mario Luigi bundle.

If people would just shut up and buy the Wii U like they should then we wouldn't have to talk about the end of Nintendo. It's a good console with good games. It's cheap, it's in HD, it's got good online play. What's not to like about the Wii U? Oh yeah.. it's Nintendo. People have been hating on them for over 15 years now.

That's the thing though, they won't be able to drop it another $100 which is likely what would help spur some sales, that controller costs too much and it shouldn't have been the focus of the machine IMO.

That's true but I also think the name was a big mistake as well. I still overhear people in stores that thought the Wii U was an add on

Yeah they've made a lot of mistakes with that console, pretty inexcusable when you consider how long they've been doing it.

Flynn's logic is about as sound as spaghetti programming code. He's right up there with Astro at straw grasping, denial, faulty logic, and semantics. Once again, nobody is going to buy more of your company's products because you stuck your head in the sand in the face of reality.

Xbox is selling well but the evidence and metrics point to PS4 having more popularity, supply, demand, and selling more units. 2:1 metrics are still reliable.

Where has astro been...

Yeah, but high technology consumer products have always been a fickle business. It happens to the best of companies. BlackBerry and Nokia both dominated solidly until they misjudged the market. Microsoft has been at OSes as long as Nintendo, yet is struggling with Windows 8.
Sony was king of portable music, but no one wanted minidisc.
Nintendo has never been one to do what people demanded, but prefers to march to its own beat. In some cases that works extremely well, like the Wii. Other times people are left scratching their heads (purple gamecube?)

The question is really whether the situation is fixable and the Wii can become viable.

Very true, all good points.

More evidence that Microsoft is either producing more, or selling more in NA than Sony... but still, nothing for anyone to get their panties in a bunch over... just some evidence of an ultimate outcome... (and less anecdotal than my previously cited evidence, which admittedly was flimsy and proof of nothing).

Looking forward to final "2013" numbers, come early next year...

Well I think selling more is probably a result of producing more, and if Amazon is any basis of it, that seems to be what's going on right now. Sony may have had a better launch (who knows?) but the X1 is selling a more on Amazon right now. Seems like that's because they just keep restocking, selling out, restocking, selling out, while the PS4 doesn't seem to be restocking.
