X1 and PS4 games: January to May

Looks like Sony has a good head start with the DL/Indie games. Once ID@Xbox gets going the release list will look much more balance as Microsoft will have filler titles as well. This generation we're going to start seeing numbers thrown around just to throw them around. It's going to be like Apple and Android app stores. We'll start hearing "We've hit out 1000th indie game" but in reality only 10% are worth a damn, if that. I'm looking at you Fart app.

And that is where the front end interface and filters for this stuff need to improve.

There are thousands of indie games on 360 but you have to wade through a lot of awful Minecraft clones to get to really decent stuff. That's even with user ratings and filtering by rating/popularity. I imagine there are lots of hidden gems that never receive exposure due being buried by the shear volume of content.

Menace, that could be said in any thread that discusses game sales, console sales, and exclusives and compares how many on each. Yet those are the most popular, fastest growing threads on the forums. If it didn't matter, then people wouldn't post in those threads.

It's a hobby, and people have a passion about their games and the hardware that it plays on. It's just discussion. It won't impact our life in any meaningful way, but it sure as f*** my makes my work day fly by :)

Maybe people should try showing that passion is discussions about actual games rather than stuff that is rather meaningless to them and their passions:D what some silly sausage deems list worthy or not just seems so pointless.

In my opinion, neither system has an amazing, AAA exclusive. Titanfall is underwhelming to me, and my favorite PS4 exclusive (Infamous) was great but not incredible.

Best exclusive out right now, IMO, is PvZ Garden warfare. And while it too is a great game, It's not amazing.

Nice that digital games count now ;)

Lost count the amount of times certain people on TXB dismissed XBLA and even tried to claim I said they were system sellers just because I bought more of them than retail games one year.

Dead Rising 3 is still the best next gen game so far IMO.

This picture is trotted out a lot to show the 360's lack of exclusives

It's like downloadable games didn't matter then.
Now the same Sony fans post this picture

Which totally includes downloadable only games.
Seems bit strange to post both pictures and not see the hypocrisy.

Check the title: it says retail exclusive games so the list is just comparing retail games. Feel free to make one that includes both indies for both platforms. I'd like to see it.

The second list is comparing all the games that have come out since Jan 2014, both indies and retail.

YE

Yeah. Not sure how Im feeling about those Indies. Awesome that they're there, but definitely not the life of the party if you know what I mean....

It's like having your entree balanced out with some vegetables and sides.

ahhh....look at all those indie games padding out sony's list.......if you're lucky a handful of them might be worth playing ;)

You're right, but with PS+ this gen, I think indies will play a bigger role this gen than last since Sony'll be offering them for their IGC. So many will have a chance to be able to play these smaller game titles. So in a way, they're getting more spotlight thanks to Sony's system.

I keep hearing nothing but praise for PvZ. Maybe I should get it?

Yes, I think they should be included.
So they should be included last gen right?

Glad MS opened up ID@xbox just now. Can't wait for all the games to come rolling in.

Yes, they should have been included last gen. Always look at the whole game library when comparing unless you're just comparing retail.

The only reason to compare retail is to cherry pick.

I agree and always said include the entire game library.

Thats nice Anderson. But Indie's are cool fillers. People want the meat and potatoes of the gaming industry to chew on. Not to mention indie titles have a higher percentage of being garbage, compared to high profile multi platform games or exclusives. Why so many people continuously pretend that indies have suddenly graduated from mostly garbage to worthy content from literally, last gen to this one--its crazy! Typically, it takes quite a while to find that diamond in the rough amongst a pile of mediocre, over-priced shovel ware. JS

I agree that there's a higher percentage of crap in the indie/DL space, but I disagree with the rest. Good indies are easy to find, if you're paying attention. And I find a lot of entertainment value in indie/DL games. Some of the games that I have enjoyed the most in the last couple years have been indie/DL games. They've been very memorable and like a breath of fresh air, compared to the sameness that inhabits the full retail selection sometimes. I like a good full-scale game the same as anyone, but I'm happy about how active and interesting the indie game scene is lately.

Indies, DD only or whatever else you want to call them are the future of gaming. Anyone trying to downplay them either has an agenda or is just ignorant of the current trends in the gaming world.

Hey now. It can't be helped. It's not like you can expect Sony to pay for timed exclusive content for the latest CoD and Battlefield games. :D

If that's the case, everyone and their dog have an agenda.

On this forum, most do. All you need do is look at Steam's top selling software to know the significance of indie games currently. Consoles are finally catching on and are following suit likewise.

You must have an agenda too then, cause you are overplaying them :p:p The future of gaming is Free 2 Play, and I mean that, seriously. As much as I hate F2P it is the trend that is quickly catching fire.

Do you not think it's funny that in these sort of lists last gen, downloadable games weren't included but this gen they are?

That's because they weren't real games then. Now that they're a big deal for Sony's platform, they're real games again.

I'm just being facetious. Indie games are far more complex than they used to be. But even games like Dust or even Trials were discounted by Sony gamers last gen.

That makes me think there's not a lot of games on either console.

Your'e right, my agenda is to make people who downplay indies look foolish. As for F2P, you may be right, but I think that is still up in the air. Wasn't it just reported that only like 3% of F2P gamers spend any money? Not sure how valid a system that would be for some types of games.

You are actually the one here with an agenda. Your agenda is so strong it stunk the high heavens. You might as well say bicycles are the future of motor vehicles while you are at it. Because Flappy Bird pushes more units at $2 than a $60 Final Fantasy game, and that matters to no one. But I'm glad Sony and Playstation have helped pique your interest in indie games. They are pretty nice little experiences every now and then.

Yeah, not a whole lot so far. Not enough to get me to jump on board either train, personally. However, the rest of the year is looking pretty good. The chart stops in May, but most of the action is in the rest of the year. Bunch of titles expected in 2014 but still haven't got a release date. Here's a list for PS4. I think starlight has posted similar lists in the Xbox forum. I think it looks like a good year ahead.

I've been enjoying indie games on PC for awhile now, just glad the consoles are finally catching up to the future of gaming.

If the future of gaming is PC, I am out of gaming for good then.

grow up. you sound like a 12 year old that doesn't like the game the other kids want to play "screw you guys, I'm going home".

To call yourself a gamer does a grave disservice to the word.
