X1 and PS4 games: January to May

Right, I was talking about the Xbox One.
As was I when I quoted the ID@xbox program being in development for years and MS having the largest focus on indies compared to any other consoles out there. They never abandoned it as you claimed. In fact, they are the largest supporter, have the most indies but they are even embracing it more with Xbox One with more developers than they had ever.

They might have had a plan for the Xbox One before E3, but ever since they have been scrambling to figure out just what to do with it. Everything they have done since E3 has been redefining and restructuring, a direct result of unprecedented public negativity as well as Sony's favorable position. They F'ed up on the whole concept of the One and they are doing everything they can to reinvent their vision into something consumers actually want. This is a good thing, but there is no denying it. I am actually impressed by how much they have managed to salvage what could have been a disastrous launch.

I agree with you in regards to the DRM 180. But as it relates to indies, Microsoft had a plan and talked about when they were ready. Not when fanboys thought they should have been ready.

I'd believe that were it not also a bunch of indie devs lashing out initially to MS policy. They seemed to have made strides to mending that somewhat though.

Wait. Now indie games are awesome and everyone wants credit for cultivating them? I thought they were mostly worthless filler? Damn, go away for half a day and all the arguments shift...

I'll just speak about my own experience. I first caught on to the value of indies/DL while I owned a 360. Games like The Walking Dead and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons were brilliant to me. Then, when I shifted to PS3, I felt that Sony had even more openness to the indie scene, especially the creative, artistic games -- games other people probably consider "artsy fartsy" but to me were just fantastic. I'm talking about games like Journey, The Unfinished Swan, and Papa & Yo. I was stunned that games like these ever got made. Based on my years of digesting mainstream titles, I just never expected them.

I know there is a pretentiousness associated with the "indie scene." I know there are some narcissistic kooks involved in it. I know there's exaggeration about how innovative they are. All I can say is that, over the past two years, they have provided some of the best gaming experiences of my life.

I personally love indie games because I utterly despise the demise of 2D gaming. 2D games have a visual appeal and gameplay just can't be mastered in 3D. I love 2D gaming, and to make 2D games is very cheap. Final Fantasy was a masterpiece back in the SNES days, and today, all sorts of people can craft very low budget games of the same quality. And publishers rarely control the production of such games, especially if it's freeware. And I'll say lastly, if you truly do enjoy indie games, DONT LIMIT YOURSELF TO GAMES PUBLISHED TO STEAM/DESURA! There are bountiful load of games released for absolutely free shared across various forums and sites. Use your google power to find them!!

I don't think it was a bunch. More like a few high profile vocal indie guys. Microsoft needed to change some policies and still do.
