It is on topic. If the game quality doesnā€™t directly correlate to success then it contradicts your post.
Okay I'll bite , Jim just said recently that PS5 is on track to be the most successful PlayStation across multiple vectors. So in that sense, it does correlate.

Multiple vectors? Who cares. Your new head said PlayStation didnā€™t understand how to make money. End of.

His comments reflect more of having better game budgets than the quality of the games.

ā€œWeā€™ve been really clear and really consistent about what we stand for great consoles, great console gaming experience, and great games. I would say that right now weā€™re at the top of our game."

ā€œPlayStation 5 is well on track to be our most successful console ever across multiple vectors and I think the games and the gaming experiences you see on PlayStation 5, lead by PlayStation Studios, are the best that weā€™ve ever seen.ā€

I stand by my point , if you have quality games, the people will buy and play them and in return consumers will continue to buy into your brand and it will continue to be successful. It's very obvious Nintendo and Sony are sustaining their momentum this gen from last one with their big name quality exclusives. Increased development costs have definitely cut into profit margins though for everyone which is why Sony is also porting their old exclusives to PC for added revenue streams. Nintendo is the only one still doing things in their old traditional sense because of higher profit margins. Older hardware but still sell their games at highest prices of the three. Xbox is trying to build growth at the cost of porting out their exclusives right now, their gamers don't like it, journalist don't seem to either but Xbox will do what they think is best for the company so time will tell if it's the right decision.

Just like PlayStation is doing and PS gamers donā€™t like it. But Sony will do whatā€™s best for Sony. And really they should. Itā€™s their business.

Yeah PS will do what they feel is in their best interests too.

I am keep seeing that the next xbox will use 2 OS in their system.

One will have the Xbox kernel and windows.

If this turns out to be true, this can change everything.

It would honestly be in the Xbox brands best interest to go 3rd party.

Why though? Eating into their memory / storage doesn't seem to be a good idea with already limited RAM/harddrive capacity. Do they want devs to optimize into even more different OS's now on top of different hardware sku's? Unless they are just going to cloud game everything but then what's the point of two OS's at that point.

XBOX-Steam-EPIC store on one system?

XBOX-Steam-EPIC store on one system?

So just Windows?

Rumours were they were letting consumers pick and choose different hardware from MSI/Gigabyte/Asus etc and other retailers to make your own console PC box. Maybe true in that sense?

So why is Sony floundering?
Their movies are kinda bad, especially their ā€œin associationā€ live action movies. Their cameras are great, almost every iPhone in existence has one built by them

Well they just said they want to be on every screen, and something about being on all platforms. Maybe people are looking at it the wrong way with the latter, maybe the platforms they speak of is stuff like selling their games on epic game store, steam and gog, maybe even Facebook. Seeing as their new first party games under abk were only sold thru their store and not the windows store, egs, cog, and only just recently started selling them thru steam againā€¦..oh and soon switch

Isnā€™t that just a pc? I see it more like a tv, or even Steamdeck. Any game can run on it, but to varying degrees of playability, or just verified for compatibility.

Yeah that what I was asking. Wouldn't it just be a PC console box if it's Windows on with the Xbox app.

They already are. Why would anyone care about the company with 'no games' going multiplatform?

Hi-Fi Rush has apparently flopped on PS. Pentiment hasn't done anything on Switch or PS.

The only ones that world benefit would be Sony because they would have complete control over that market and digital store.
