Yeah, that's why I think this Siries S may need some DF 'splainin'. I have an idea of this, but I think I could be missing some of what it actually means, and what it translates to for performance. For instance, when I play a game that was written for Xbox One and X enhanced, will it be on par with One X? Will some older games also get an enhancement for both new models or or just Series X? I'm just not sure where the SS fits in yet. I suppose Microsoft will explain some of that, but it'll take someone like DF to actually explain the specifics of the what and why, imo.

And he’s just quoting the data miners who found the info. They also are not the only ones quoting this info. Even Pennello said basically the same specs months ago.

I realize it’s not official info yet, but that’s about as close as you can get for now.

Sony obviously feels coming in at $399 is their mass market sweet spot. If the specs are basically true, give or take, then Andrew Reiner and the rest of the “insiders” on Resetera look foolish. Of course there same “insiders” said Lockhart existed.....until it didn’t....and is somehow back again.....or is it?

Does he? Last time I checked according to him the xbo was going to be more powerful than PS4 when it got the dx 12 update(secret sauce)
Sony has yet to post specs so everything is rumor so how is he correct?
If a 9.2TF $399 ps5 did release it would very bad for X assuming MS achieves the 12TF target.
Why? A $100 more console is suicide vs PlayStation and don't try and think a $299 4TF sku will fix this issue.
 
A more substantial, feature rich console for an extra $100 is not suicide....unless of course you think the XSX will not sell well.

Sale wise it's suicide vs PS5.
It would be more of a niche market product and the niche market is bigger than ever but still small compared to what a $399 ps5 will be.

Hence Lockhart at $299. If it happens. And GamePass trial most likely, so tons of games for free on Day 1.

You actually make a relevant point. $499 might of never been in their cards for Sony. Since they are more global they have to price accordingly. They might not be comfortable at that price in a lot of their markets that are more price sensitive.

On the real, there is another thread for this stuff, but trying to have my voice heard is all. Words cannot describe how frustrating it is to be told you're literally not being loud enough about it, while others try to squelch your expression.

If you think that the tech just isn't there yet, OK. Some of you who are not excepting the simple truth that mixed reality is indeed the future, and not a fad, are going to have a very rude awakening pretty soon. Any tech company holding out from mixed reality too long will miss the 4th wave of computing, the Spacial Web and a large part of what Japan calls Society 5.0. This is why Hololens exists, and at the same time, was inevitable. Not sure that games will play the largest part in this inevitable coming wave, but I genuinely want them to be a big part of it, including through console. There is a lot at stake here; and Microsoft, Facebook, Apple, and Google are all fighting the telecom industry for small slices of 6GHz spectrum for local Wifi tethering as we speak. This is because they are currently investing billions into mixed reality.

I'll take any more opinions to a proper thread, but I will not be quiet about it, especially when this very console (along with wireless tethering) could be a huge tipping point.

Wouldn't say great, but decent. No HDR passthrough for gen1 is dumb, and Moves are pretty bad, with no analog stick(s). A couple steps forward, but one step back, imo.

There's never been a console like XSX with dedicated ray tracing, and other advanced physics and audio technology embedded in this way before. As I said, would be a crime to not at least open it up to other headsets. How are they going to ask me to "Power my Dreams", when I don't dream that I'm staring at a screen?

Not going to cut it.
Even casuals like numbers... 4TF Xbox instead of a ps5 ain't happening.

What MS could do(but I'm giving them to much credit to assume) is take a loss and match Sony on price.
It's not like they can't afford 2.

And again, Lockhart is meant to take the place of the 1X. Moving forward, this will be cheaper to manufacture. It will be what the S is now. They will just stop making the S and X altogether, eventually.

The all-digital S apparently had very strong numbers this holiday, so while your post may apply to the hardcore gamer, that’s not what Lockhart is targeting.

And again, those are RDNA2 Tflops. It will be close to an X1X in performance when it’s all said and done.

2 SKUs, one for the serious gamer, one for the casual. There is a big enough market for both. Sony is just playing it right down the middle. The outcome will be interesting.

Also, there is this recent Walmart leak (alright the performance numbers are not finalized yet):

So, according to that "leak", the all-digital Series X will be $150 less than the regular Series X? Shouldn't it be like $50 less, or is something else missing?

The series x needs to come in at the same price point at the ps5...it doesn’t matter how feature rich it is.

These consoles are entry points to a joy/hobby that many aren’t aware of what 4k, uhd, atmos, hdmi are and that confuses people.

I was at Best Buy earlier today, whilst in the pickup line the lady behind me walking her son, maybe 20, what uhd is, he was like “I don’t know, better image quality, maybe“. So the mum and grandmother went to look at them and started ask what all the jargon listed were and he and he just shrugged. When the dad came he was clueless too. They thought cos it’s cheaper it wasn’t worth it, they were eyeing one 65” set that was 4.5k. I was about to turn into VaLLiancE and and recommend the a tcl or wait. But they called me up and I picked up my game and gift :p

I personally think it’s a waste to have to different units. If it’s replacing the x then why only do 1080p.

I warned y’all about when going to 4k gaming/assets it would significantly increase the size of the game, look at RDR2, Gears 5, halo 5.

Devs don’t need one more unit to develop for. If they’re cool with just focusing on the x and downgrading to s then maybe, but again, why

My theory is this all some crazy conspiracy by Phil to distract the world and from what the x really is... just like how they tricked the VGA production crew that they were gonna show off some new gamepass games, hell I think there’s even tweets out there suggesting they were.

Also, even if it means MS would end behind Sony, I still wish they release a $499 console (with according specs) than I gimped $399 one. Lol at anyone cheering for Sony to win and rather they have a cheap console than lose to MS.

I was wondering about that, but maybe they meant a disc-less version of the current X1X?
