$399 series X, $199 series S with 3 months of gamepass ultimate.

Day one 1st party titles including Halo in gamepass?

That will get people to move.

It won't be Ultimate in any case, especially not in the S. Gamepass for Xbox itself is a pretty damn fine value (though I'm loving Ultimate personally).

I can't imagine they are going to make Lockhart $200 and that is what you would have to do if you made the XSX $400. Microsoft should feel pretty comfortable at $500 since you know the PS5 disc version isn't going to be less than that.

$400/$200 and including gamepass is them burning money in a way we have never really seen them do.

Interesting tidbit:

As texture data comprises a significant portion of the total overall size of a game, having a purpose built algorithm optimized for texture data in addition to the general purpose LZ decompressor, both can be used in parallel to reduce the overall size of a game package. Assuming a 2:1 compression ratio, Xbox Series X delivers an effective 4.8 GB/s in I/O performance to the title, approximately 100x the I/O performance in current generation consoles. To deliver similar levels of decompression performance in software would require more than 4 Zen 2 CPU cores.

How about this sauce?

Through the massive increase in I/O throughput, hardware accelerated decompression, DirectStorage, and the significant increases in efficiency provided by Sampler Feedback Streaming, the Xbox Velocity Architecture enables the Xbox Series X to deliver effective performance well beyond the raw hardware specs, providing direct, instant, low level access to more than 100GB of game data stored on the SSD just in time for when the game requires it.

Nice to see they cleard up the mipmap portion language.

As for lower texture sizes, we don't really know how large they are now. Hard to guage what the download/installed file size difference would be.

It all sounds great on paper. Lets see how it works in game.

what is this “low level”? Does it contain fruit?

Yup, I keep hearing this. They will stress the 4K/60 at the show. I expect every XGS game shown will hit this target.

They really need to have some videos comparing it to last gen. Show us exactly the difference it makes.

if it’s streamed I doubt it’ll be at 4k/60, 30 maybe or 2k/60... would love to be wrong.

but I’m sure they’ll release 4k/60 later on their YouTube channel and other sites

"box" art? lol. I can't remember the last time I held or seen a physical game disk.

I didn’t even know this was a thing lol

subs are not burning money. MS can take those hits on hardware and make it easy in Gamepass.

Its burning money when you take bigger hits on hardware than you need to and limit your ability to monetize the hardcore gamers that are buying the system early on. Sure you want them on gamepass but you have plenty of opportunities to get them on there with deals and trials and just delivering the content and good word of mouth. Gamers that buy the system at launch are either going to sub anyway or they are going to buy games. If someone wants to buy Halo? You let them. Now whipping out bundles like that next year? Now that makes sense.

Hey if they want to do I'm down with it because its great for us but they still have shareholders and people forget that when they think they are going to buy EA and that the Xbox One X will be $300.

I find it hilarious that people assume gamepass is an answer to any and all losses.
