Xbox Live subs..

Update!

Since we launched Xbox Live (18 years ago!), we’ve been working to make it the most advanced multiplayer network available, for the greatest community of gamers — and there are a lot of you. Millions of people come together on Xbox to play with friends and discover great games. We invest in our community by strengthening the digital safety of our players, enabling new ways to share, communicate and play with your friends, and delivering industry leading reliability across our network.

Periodically, we assess the value and pricing of our services to reflect changes in regional marketplaces and to continue to invest in the Xbox community; we’ll be making price adjustments for Xbox Live Gold in select markets. In many markets, the price of Xbox Live Gold has not changed for years and in some markets, it hasn’t changed for over 10 years.

So, what does this mean for you?

If you’re an existing online 12-month or 6-month Xbox Live Gold member, there’s no price change. If you choose to renew your membership, it will renew at the current price.
The price of a 1-month Gold membership is increasing $1 USD and the price of a 3-month membership is increasing $5 USD or the equivalent amount in your local market.
If you’d like to upgrade your Gold membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate your remaining Gold time will also convert directly to Ultimate (up to 36 months).
For example, if you have 11 months of Xbox Live Gold now, and you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, those 11 months convert to 11 months of Ultimate at no additional cost.
Members have already been notified in some regions.
If you’re in a region where prices are being adjusted, you will receive an email and a message center notification over the next month letting you know what the new pricing is for your membership.
Going forward, new pricing will be 1-month for $10.99, 3-months for $29.99, and 6-months for $59.99, or your local market equivalent.
You can always visit your account to manage your membership, and prices won’t adjust until at least 45 days after you receive the messages.

They really need to shout that part quickly. Looking at twitter no one knows it and just sees the Gold is going up headlines

As it happens I got 2 years worth of gold for £80 today.

Well, it won't know what I pay, since I get mine at CD Keys. So not sure how they would know what to renew me at. I would have to be paying them direct I assume.

They really should have lead with that and not stick it at the end. What a terrible announcement structure. Even Don Mattick could have done a better job.

Maybe you are talking about something else but isn't it just common sense that if you already are on a current plan that's been paid for they have to honor that because it was the price they were asking when you agreed to buy it? they have to let you continue through the price they agreed upon at purchase, once that's over you have to pay more.

I still don't know why anyone believed they were going to just make online play free, MS is a services company and gold is a service, if you took paying for online play away from xbox that division probably never would have made any money, they probably wouldn't even be in the console business anymore if online play was free, they still haven't made free to play online games playable without gold as far as I know.

Charging for online play was the best thing xbox ever did for PlayStation, they showed Sony people were willing to pay for online play and it has done a lot of good financially for Sony as well, hopefully they don't raise prices for online play since they've already raised game prices. It's kind of a pick your poison I guess, pay an extra $60 a year for gold or $10 extra for each 1st party PS5 game you buy, either way both customer bases are going to be paying more this gen for things than they did last gen.

It should be but it's not what's going on twitter.

It's now people saying they are jumping to Sony because MS are greedy

Some people are babies, like seriously it's hard to believe they are adults. I'm sure very few will actually switch platforms over this, it's the price of a game. If anyone thinks either of these companies is in this for anything more than making money they are crazy lol neither MS or Sony care about us, our relationships with them are purely transactional.

And you get s*** like this

I always thought he was full of s***, this doesn't make him look any worse in my eyes lol.

You would need to turn on auto renew most likely. If you let it lapse you will be screwed.

Unless you're an existing customer in which you're grandfathered in to playing online at $60 per year. But I agree if they double their price to new customers they should at least have the f***ing decency to make FTP online games actually that.

With PC being free online, this really could push me to PC. If PC is getting all the same games, and if I can build a PC to put in my entertainment stand, and I can just use a controller, then I wouldn't have to bother paying for XBL.

And with Sony putting more of their games on PC, I really could have an all in one machine.

Jesus, and the guy got banned. Though it looks like most people say this doesn't their opinion of Phil.

I would have to say that MS was anticipating this blow back and will just wait for it to blow by and carry on as normal.
