Xbox Live subs..

Wait is xbl gold increasing or not?
It is. Doubling in price. $120 a year instead of $60 a year, no new services or features added, and no F2P for Xbox Live Silver yet either.

It's a trash move. I have Game Pass Ultimate, so this move doesn't affect me, but XBL should've been free by now.
I agree. But subs are all the rage now. PS Now, PS Plus, XBL, Game Pass, Netflix, Disney+, Discovery+, Hulu, Prime, HBO Max, Adobe subscription, Microsoft Office subscription, Apple TV subscription.....blah blah blah.

They are all luring us in with low prices...then a year at a time, they sneak in a higher price, or remove some content. I think, sadly, subs are the future.

I have XBL, SiriusXM and Amazon Prime (Prime for the shipping). I have no desire to get any more subs, and I will not renew XBL at $120 a year. That will put me at only 2 subs. Sirius and Prime.

Might be done with Xbox.

Not shocked at all. Despite Phil's constant effort to make himself one odf the guys and he cares bout you, he does stuff like this. Just another scummy suit spewing anything that might make a buck.

This is true. He is a face. But the real person here is Microsoft. They are a $1.7 trillion company for a reason. Same with Google, Amazon, and others. They are here for the $$, not to be a charity.

Stupid business decision. Fact that it doesn't impact current customers means there is very little upside financially. Couple that with a s***ty message that focused on the fact they haven't raised prices in years brings back memories of Don Mattrick decision making and messaging. Shows them to be out of touch. They need to flip it back asap but regardless, the damage is done. They have some s*** talent in the messaging department. The communication was awful though business decision is worse.

GPU offers four times as much the gold alone, so, shouldn’t that mean that gold would be a quarter of the price? Like 35 bucks a year for just online play/activities?

Keep em separate.
Them forcing them to be combined is admitting GP isn't successful.

This has been the game plan ever since gamepass was announced. They have just done it in a poor way and are basically forcing me accounts to go for ultimate over just Gold

It's not wrong that the game plan was to move everyone over to Game Pass Ultimate long term. It's how console, PC and cloud were going to converge. I thought the way they were going to do it was eventually eliminate the paywall but say that the Gold/Ultimate upgrade from $10 to $15 a month was for the ability to stream those games as well as free DLC on 1st party stuff. We saw Gears Hivebusters free with Ultimate. I was assuming something like that would also come to FH4 this year. This took the opposite approach. Just a really bad business decision. Game Pass is a long term play. Numbers matter this year but if anything, this will result in slower growth long term as less people now enter the ecosystem.

This is so stupid. To be raising the price during a Pandemic, when people are gaming more because it. This just comes off as taking advantage and being greedy. This is something even the lowest level PR executive could see going badly for MSFT.

for that, I have a basket that they can throw their money in since they want to throw it out the window.
Moving to UGP is a no-brainer and money saving.

What was a ripoff was the beginning of the XBOX ONE where we had to give up the family gold plan and get them separate. <- That is the real ripoff.
