Xbox Live subs..

Just because someone is willing to spend $400 doesnt mean they are willing to pump out money and essentially get nothing in return.

And even if they are willing maybe you should create some goodwill by not trying to squeeze every last dime out of a person for no good reason.

This was not about squeezing every dime. The amount of people willing to spend that kind of money are hardcore gamers. And hardcore gamers are more willing to play games online. If they are paying to play games online they are not going to be bothered about apps behind a wall.

The amount of people who would be complaining are people buying at a much lower price point. Otherwise it is just people complaining because they can on the internet.

Either way it is a dead issue now.

Yes, the person who is willing to spend $400-$500 for a gaming device is really going to be bothered by the $30-$60 price...

If you mentioned a Roku or an Amazon Fire maybe you might have an argument, but when are you talking about consoles that cost that much you are talking about a small cross section of the audience.

That subsection you speak on is the subesection MS has aggressively targeted. You underestimate the number of people who are willing to spend big money on an entertainment system. Once I pose the question, why buy the Xbox One for $499 when you can get the PS4 for $399 and not have to pay an additional $60 to watch your Hulu/Netflix/WWE content? It worked for MS on 360 because they had an overwhelming lead. But in a new generation having that gateway is only a hinderance when their direct (and cheaper) competitor doesn't have said barrier.

You can say that people spending $400-500 aren't going to be bothered, but clearly MS thinks differently.

Obviously the hardcore are still going to pay. This wasnt changed for them and thats not who I was talking about.

The question is how many of those people who spend that much are not going to be and will not be playing games online. MS changing the policy does not make that slim number of people who really care that much any bigger it just makes the discussion of the point moot. I with that I will bow out of this thread because there isn't much else to talk about.

MS isn't worried about the faithful Xbox owners or the hardcore gamer that lives in the online world of multiplayer, they're trying to attract the gamers that have flocked to PS4 and casual gamers who might play videogames but don't care about the multiplayer aspect, but they consume media but don't really want to spend $60 a year just to access their Hulu/Netflix accounts. That's a huge subsection of gamers that MS was just giving to Sony freely.

If you're a gamer who doesn't play online much if at all but loves watching Netflix/Hulu, what incentive is there to buy an Xbox One over PS4?

The games.

I have my doubts that the deciding factor for a casual gamer will be about which console offers streaming for no additional cost. This is more of a PR stunt over anything else. This reversal by MSFT is a way to keep the goodwill going along with the price drop.

Outside of the collective mouthpiece that are gaming forums, even that isn't a clear win for MS. Seeing as just like last generation multiplatform games end up being the main life force behind consoles, again...why buy an Xbox One over PS4?

Casuals want the best deal they can get for the cheapest they can get and PS4 fits that bill upfront. MS' offerings aren't nearly as black and white as Sony's and that's the problem Spencer and co are rectifying.

Its not the main factor, but its one of the many factors that adds up that could tilt a sale, & MS need every thing that can sway gamers to the competition to be remove, minimize, or swing to its favor.

These include better games, superior games (or at least on par), better online services, price etc. Its the same way people buy cars, camera etc. When you have 2 competing products, you will want to weight in the factors, the pros & the cons, then make an informed decision.

This was more of an issue on the 360. Folks that wanted that (cheaper) machine to double as a full media box (streaming; Windows media center extender, etc.), then had to pay the $35-$60 a year. I just renewed an account to gold last week mostly because it's the bedroom auto-login account (So my wife/son can watch Netflix/Xfinity/Amazon there while I have the ability to game on the 360 in the den; or vice versa). Now, a week later, I didn't need to do that...lol. The good thing is that it's my sons account so now he can roam between Xboxes again and use his cloud saves. Anyway, after the family plan died, I debated getting a 3rd 360 just for media/light gaming in the guest bedroom. I'll probably do that as soon as I can get a 4GB E for $150 or cheaper. Hell, my dad probably would have bought 2 360s for MCE/media/Netflix/Other Apps but due to paywall, he bought 2 Ceton extenders instead (which are pretty junky and only work as extenders...no apps) and then added a Roku box.

It was never behinds a pay wall on psn its good ms is weakening up
Yeah, and then there's that. If I'm comparing and don't really play online much/at all, why would I buy a 360 with paywall over a PS3/WiiU, etc. Now that it's gone, that consideration is moot. There are other deciding factors, obviously but now that the paywall requirement is gone, it's not a con when comparing for purchase.

I for one enjoy the threads that SHE creates, they're one of the main reasons I come here. You may not like it but others however, do.

I also think Starlight is awesome for hunting down all these articles and news stories. I've never seen anyone have a problem with it until now. I was actually going to suggest this particular topic should be stickied because sometimes I'm having trouble with Xbox Live or some apps and I wonder if it's my internet connection or a problem with Live. Would be nice to see these alerts on here.

Anyway, keep them coming Starlight - the majority of us like what you post!

same here this is inside outside like good oll TXB was not to big not to smal

I think it's nice. It's def not your run of the mill news. She finds a lot of stuff I don't see elsewhere.

Keep up the good work!
Co-signed . I also see many articles I'd never come across myself. Far more useful than the normal bickering in threads.

It's kind-of pointless though because if you just go into Network in your Settings in your Xbox One, it always tells you the Status Alerts anyways or Xbox.com does too.
