Are Sony remasters really remasters?

I don't remember the PS3 version of TLOU running at 60 FPS 1080p.
I don't remember Halo 3 and 4 running at 60 FPS 1080p either on 360 even though it's the best console ever.

It's almost like both teams went back to the master code and reworked it.

Hang on a minute!

No, a straight port would be no increase in resolution, framerate, etc. If you have the latter, that's a remaster.

I think where the guy in the video made a good point is the grey area in this debate that when console games get ported over to PC, it will usually display improved textures and effects and certainly resolution. But nobody calls the PC version a remaster.

I suppose they could if they wanted to, but I think people take it for granted that PC versions have improved visuals over console versions, so the label would be sort of redundant.

p.s. It might also create confusion, in that people might think it referred to a remaster of an earlier release on PC, rather than the first iteration.

And vice versa?

The guys clearly gave evidence to back up his claim and I dont know who in their right mind could refute it. What he said is accurate, unless you suffer from self disillusionment.

Not a real word.

The textures in the ps4 are still terrible because they aren't much different from the ps3 version. The textures are the still the main weakness of the game regardless if its 10 years old or 10 hours old, they still suck, and desperately needed upgrading. I would have taken the game at 900p or whatever to upgrade those, that's really the only thing that held the game back and it was the most ignored.

Fact is, you could put Gears 3(a more recent version) beside the remaster of Gears 1 and its still an obvious upgrade in quality in the textures. That's the point, they went the extra mile and it shows.
But I have Last of Us on ps4, and the textures are definitely not bad. Or at least that is my honest observation so far off the game. And I'm almost finished with the game I believe. The only bad texture I've seen in all of my screenshots is a decal sticker of a lion on the back of a semi trailer, the semi trailer itself having great textures otherwise. There wouldn't be any point of upgrading textures that already look just fine. I don't mean to come off stubborn, but I can show some pics I've taken if you'd like to see why it really looks like on ps4.

I had the game on both systems, I double dipped. I don't think they look good at all, many have that muddy ps3 look I can't stand. There is a reason it looks nearly identical to all the ps3 screens, even for a ps3 game I thought the textures were average at best. Everything else was good or great, hence my reasoning for textures that desperately needed attention. In all honestly I wish they would have waited a year, redid everything, but it was simply a cash grab in my opinion to bank on all those crossover 360 owners, hence the $60 price point when it was what, $40 for GOTY edition on ps3?

Sure, and given the choice, I'd love any re-release to have that kind of love put in it. Just be ready to pay much more for it. Gears and GoW 3 are both 40 bucks right? Yeah, that's where the issue comes in for me. I bet God of War 3 price drops a lot faster than Gears' does, though.
Both are overpriced as is UC trilogy

I don't think pc should be considered at all in the argument because even a ported game to pc is still made to run on a plethora of hardware configs.

You can have a game look like ass on oneset of hardware but kick ass on another just messing with the settings built in to the game and also mods.

Having settings on ultra vs low I wouldn't call a remaster.

I can't believe UC remaster has 3 games and is the same price as TloU remaster. Makes no sense.

No
It looks worse in ways then the original 360 game and overall worse then the PC version.
These companies charging this much for so little is a smack in the face.

I don't think so when look at 3 games as $10 more.

Yeah but you could make those comparisons with non remasters too but nobody does. They could have released TLOU GOTY edition on PS3 at or near full price and nobody would questioned it.

I consider Uncharted a remake like Halo and Gears.

"I played unfinished code that was missing a few minor visual effects, but Bluepoint’s loving influence was readily apparent. The studio is upgrading character models, environment textures, lighting, and special effects across the board, bringing all three games as close to visual modernity as possible while ensuring they remain true to their original creative direction."

Halo=Remake
God of War 3=Remaster
TLOU=Remaster
The Nathen Drake Collection=Remake
Gears = Remake
Ratchet & Clank=Reimagining

THE END

TLOU was barely a year old when the remaster came out and it included MP and the Left Behind story DLC, the UC games are several years old and are SP only so yeah it makes sense.

And yet that has never been confirmed by Coalition nor Digital Foundry. I think MS is waiting to announce the FPS of the entire game closer to release.

They specifically say "MP at 60 fps" not the game is 60 fps.

I'll wait for screens of UC before I believe it. I heard a lot of stuff about TLoU us and it looked the same for me with that the up port differences.

It's comments like this that makes people not take you seriously. You may not like the art decisions, but your personal tastes don't affect the objective truth that they are rebuilding all of the assets from textures to models, to animation.

That is far more a legit reason to charge 40 bucks than a res and framerate bump that largely comes with stronger hardware.

It also provides an excuse to not run at 60 frames. Higher detail models, lighting, and shaders. Hell, God of War 3 can't even fully do that with no modern assets,
