Are Sony remasters really remasters?

I'm looking at it on my phone. But I also owned both versions. I'm seeing a higher resolution and slightly higher textures. Nothing drastic.

Edit: Maybe I'm focussing too much on the environment. The characters certainly look much better.

Take a look on a PC sometime, if you get a chance. It's night and day. One image is fuzzy, the other sharp and clear -- characters, environment, everything. I don't know about textures, but the overall image is very much improved. Anyone saying that there is no significant difference is suffering from self disillusionment.

Better res and better AA it seems. It will obviously be better res but we won't know how much better the AA will be until we see it in motion.

I think there's some confusion. I'm referring to TLoU and this image:

Yeah. That's the comparison I was talking about. There's better resolution and better AA on the PS4. The comparison makes it look like the PS3 one is a first year game compared to what the PS4 is doing.

Edit: I completely forgot it came out already.

Well yeah I never doubted that the resolution made a big difference. I'm mainly talking about the textures.

Anyone that thinks TLoU remaster is more significantly improved than Gears U over the 360 version is sippin' the delusional punch as well.

Also as I said, I've owned and beat both versions. I know what the differences are.

I've not played it on PS4 yet, but TLoU was possibly one of the best looking games of last Gen, and it still looks amazing! I don't know how discernable both would be from a couch distance from stills though... In motion, it would be noticeable.

It would be interesting to see the effort/teams/production that goes into these games.

60 fps was nice. It also has a 30 fps option that adds better lighting or something. I forgot.

Ah, yeah, the way you phrased it, it sounded like you were talking about a game that hadn't come out yet (I assumed Gears Ultimate). I see.

Ok, I'm not seeing huge differences in the textures, I agree with that. In general, though, it's like looking at one image with my glasses on and one with them off.

p.s. My use of "self-disllusionment" was a joke, referring to something that happened earlier in the thread, not a jab at you.

Joke was good :D

The level of detail in TLOU remastered is also better, things look better further out, it's not just a jump to 1080p, look at how much more the detail shows on the buildings, on the PS3 version it gets blurry fairly close to the camera while the PS4 version holds nice details much further out.

I don't know but i don't get the whole negativity towards remasters. Like they're just trying to resell us the games, don't buy them, wahhh. Okay, don't buy it. Why you gotta make fun of how other people choose to spend their money? You take a great game and make it better? I'm there. The Last of Us Remastered was amazing. Looking forward to playing the Uncharted trilogy again. I might even run through God of War 3 again soon.

I didn't play much of Halo: MCC yet but i'm going to. Don't care if the multiplayer is still messed up, give me those campaigns in all their glory. When the Gears Ultimate Edition drops i'm going to co-op with a buddy. That was like the first game we played together online. Good times were had and will be had again thanks to the remaster.

The terminology is really irrelevant.

PS4 previous-gen ports just aren't as good as Microsoft's in terms of upgrades, content, and overall value. Microsoft is kicking Sony's ass on that front.

So call then remakes, remasters, ports, or whatever you want... The terminology doesn't matter. What matters is with MS, you know you'll get a huge value, upgrade, and all the content. With Sony, you get more frames and resolution, but you can't count on much else... And you might even lose content (UC MP).

You mean after downloading 20GB+ of updates just to make their game (Halo: MCC) playable?

I guess I was wrong. Textures were touched up a bit more than I thought.
Lol, nostalgia! It's easy to remember them looking better than they actually do. Our imaginations fill in a lot gaps.

He is right though. Hard for them to kick someones ass if their games don't work.

No, he's not right - and neither are you. MCC's campaigns worked beautifully, it was only MP which suffered... And now it's fine, AND users got an additional game out of the problem (ODST).

Sony just drops MP altogether, charges you more, and doesn't update their games as much.

Fail.

So only parts of games need to work now. Some low standards we have these days. And the campaigns weren't beautiful either as co-op was a mess.

And those dedicated servers we were promised are working great. Maybe they will be turned on in time for the 20th anniversary of Halo 2.

Well thats better than releasing unfinished games
I would have to disagree. If that were true, we wouldn't have any games today, at all.

For the record, MCC worked/works great here since day one.

Not really. Stuff gets cut all the time. In the case of Uncharted I would want some kind of MP but I would much rather them make the decision not to include it than to release a disaster of a game. At least you know what you are getting.

Where are your standards? Good God man...
